Nightshift 23 -- Second Floor. Hallway Outside Medical Reference Library/Staff Training Area

[[From here]]

Recluse stopped at the top of the stairs, sufficiently far enough from the flashlight so that he felt a little less jumpy. He scanned the area, trying to make sure there were no unpleasant surprises waiting for him in the dark halls. Satisfied for the moment that the area was safe, he turned to speak quietly to the reporter.

"I haven't been to the chapel before. I assume you know the way?"

[identity profile] blacksustenance.livejournal.com 2007-04-22 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Eddie Brock most certainly did. He nodded. "Yeah."

The blond took the lead, pausing for a moment to try to remember the twist of the upstairs halls, and then setting off at a brisk, but careful pace. While he wasn't sure what the majority of the rooms were - this was honestly the first time he'd been on the second floor during the nights - he still had a good idea where the chapel was. Once they got to the rail overlooking the empty space above the Sun Room, he figured they were all set; the Chapel was just around the makeshift balcony.

Eddie was half-tempted to turn and see if that girl was following, but decided against it. After the painful experience the other night, he'd feel a lot better with Richter between him and anything trying to sneak up on them. No, they hadn't much cared for fire; Eddie was already hard-wired as a human to equate burning with bad, but it was now even doubly effective against them with his Other sharing his body.

As Caim approached the top of the stairs, he stopped. There were people there, yes ... as he'd heard at the bottom and middle of the staircase. He squinted into the darkness. One of them was familiar, and after a moment of thought, he realized that it was the other patient from last night - the one who had gone after their enemy when the boy had plunged into the lake.

Caim glared. Ironic that they should meet up two nightshifts in a row.

Not bothering to make himself stealthy (because really, he had no need for that - he'd gotten by in life without it up until now, why start now?), Caim made his way up and joined the group at the top. He cast a glance around at the collective without much thought, simply assessing. If they were going to the chapel, then he would go with them - as unfortunate as it may be.

Snake reached the top of the stairs, and raised his head in a sigh. He had no idea where he was going. It was like being in Outer Heaven all over again, running through the halls completely clueless, with only the most basic instructions. HEAD UPSTAIRS....OVER.

He'd always thought of Big Boss as an eloquent man, but over the radio he'd seemed barely able to speak English, as if he'd been carted through another language by a rather feeble translator. Perhaps he'd been tired. Either that or he was genuinely sure it was pronounced 'destory'.

He had no idea how big this place was, or what was lurking there, and he didn't have time to go running around willy-nilly checking all the doors. So it was time to take an educated guess.

When he'd escaped his M-U, it had been into a long, l-shaped corridor sealed off with a door that someone had clearly broken down. That ruled out the area behind him.

He growled under his breath. He would have to start a random search. He decided he would head over to the East Wing of the building, and start hammering down any door he came across.

Taking care to remain quiet, he started to head East along the corridor.

There wasn't much to say on the stairs. Kazuo wasn't a very talkative person. Given what little she knew about him and his world, that wasn't very surprising, and Penelo felt like initiating a conversation.

Except it was safer to keep quiet. She learned this the hard way; The stairs was the worst place to get caught at. There were only two exits and if blocked were blocked, you were in trouble. So she waited until they reached the top of the stairs.

Penelo had never seen the second floor before, so when she opened the doors and checked if the coast was clear, she really had no idea where to go next.

"Hm... Do you have a direction or place in mind to look for? I've never been here before," Penelo frowned, looking to Kazuo, though she knew he most likely had never been to the second floor either.

[identity profile] devils-tactics.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Kazuo shrugged and looked around. He had never been here before either. "I don't know. I don't know where I'm going. Usually I just flip a coin, but I don't have one."

He thought for a moment, scanning the hallways, and then turned to Penelo, making a fist. "Rock, paper, scissors. I win, we go left. You win, we go right. Okay?"

[From here! (http://community.livejournal.com/landels_damned/96650.html?thread=6000266#t6000266)]

Well, no monsters. Just a couple of what looked like teenagers, pausing as they decided where to go.

That was a relief.

Ashton took the opportunity to pull out his map then, turning to the second floor page (http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d24/misuchan/map2-1.jpg) and holding it in the light of Naminé's flashlight beam. They were so close!

He closed the journal, stuffed it in his pocket, and pointed across the hallway to two closed doors just inside a hallway. "Um.. In there is the experimentation hallway," he said. "One person told me it's filled with locked doors and strange creatures.. and it's probably where they're keeping Axel."

He tried to imagine the atrocities the staff were committing right now, what 'experimental trials' they were putting his roommate through. Did they have a fancy machine to put him in? Were they cutting his hands off or something? He had no idea. He didn't know if it was a medical procedure, or something Heraldry-related, or a curse they were putting on him.. or.. or what. He just didn't know. All he knew is that something bad was happening. He didn't need Dias' uncanny sixth sense to know that.

[identity profile] angels-inflight.livejournal.com 2007-04-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Locked doors and strange creatures? Their prospects seemed slim. Naminé was not sure that these rooms would be the kind of rooms that could be opened with force. If that was the case... No, she couldn't think like that. But it was maddening to know that they could be stranded right outside the room where Axel was being experimented on and they could do nothing about it!

"Wait. How will we do this? We can't charge recklessly in," Naminé reminded the two, deciding that making some sort of plan would make their 'raid' more successful. "Especially if there are monsters guarding those rooms."

Jack got them to the second floor landing just fine. He poked his head cautiously around the corner, shining the flashlight at the ceiling before slowly easing out. This was where Gin and he had been accosted by spiders before. He wanted to avoid doing that again. Getting stuck in the medical reference library again - and this time with two people who were really way too young to flirt with decently - did not sound like a good time.

From the little map Aidou had drawn, he knew he wanted to go right. He started moving that direction, back to the wall.

[identity profile] materianinja.livejournal.com 2007-04-24 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)

Yuffie followed closely behind Jack, though she was hard put not to look over her shoulder at Aidou every few seconds or so. Just to make sure he was still there. Plus, he was like eye candy. Only real. Somehow, she refrained from doing so...for the most part.

She gave Jack an odd look as he began walking down the hall. He was acting like something was going to jump out at them at any moment... And granted, she knew now that there were dangerous things that ran about at night, but she'd totally heard them all coming from a mile away. If you couldn't hear it, it wasn't nearby.

"Come on, gramps," Yuffie complained. "We wanna get to the end of the hallway before the end of the night." She wasn't entirely serious with her words--she often called Cid 'gramps' and he was probably younger than this guy was, but quite often her teasing got her into trouble.

Now they were running, Alucard could see them in the darkness, his body still pressed against the wall as he continued to creep foward. Aidou was staying behind, while the girl and Jack were still pressing foward.

And at the very front, were bats. Giant. Mutant bats. He believed he caught the flash of a wing, before they disappeared from his line of sight. So they were stuck between a rock and a hard place, and Alucard had no qualms about being labled a monster.

As quietly as possible, he lowered himself to the ground, now creeping along at all fours.

Wesker looked around carefully when he reached the top of the stairs... there were many more people here. He glared at them silently from behind his sunglasses and did his best to stay in the shadows.

He recognized 'Captain Jack' from earlier, and was careful to avoid him.

He nearly sighed in relief when they made it up the stairs without being attacked, but he wasn't quite in the mood to tempt fate that much. They just hadn't been attacked yet, didn't mean that they wouldn't be.

He looked around himself wraily as he stepped off to one side to let the others get through. He could hear movement from a lot of directions and that was never a good thing when trying to move quickly. Who knew if it meant danger or other patients?

Trouble was, he was fairly sure some of that sound was coming from the direction he needed to go in.

Ginji was still silent as they made it up the stairs. He looked around despite the dark and listened carefully. He frowned slightly. It was scary up here. Last time he was upstairs he had been with Kurama. He hoped his friend was doing alright this night.

He didn't ask which way they were going because he didn't want to appear totally lost. He had been the the Chapel before, but that didn't mean he could find his way back during the day, let alone the night.

The main part of the activity tonight seemed to be taking place on the second level, judging by the numbers of shadows and voices fading into different directions. Sasuke narrowed his eyes at the two with light-coloured hair who were still in the stairwell.

A moment later, he realized that he recognized one -- Yohji, from the first day Sasuke had been here.

Of course, recognition did not mean safety. Sasuke twirled the scalpel in his fingers as he moved into the hall, moving in a way that made it clear that he was in a hurry, but watching the two others in a way that meant that he would not turn down interaction.

When he could hear Lee and Yoshiaki directly behind him, he addressed them under his breath, "Laboratory is down the hall to the left. Were you planning to try random doors, or did you have a clearer idea of where he is?"

[identity profile] youthfulrocklee.livejournal.com 2007-04-26 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I fear I do not know enough information in order to determine where the disciplinary rooms are, therefore I believe we will have to break down some doors in order to find our lost comrade," Lee said softly.

He did not know many people here, and in fact was not totally sure who he could trust right at this moment. He could tell exactly where the other occupants were, and was ready at any moment to attack or defend against the two strangers. However, he also knew that there was always someone out there who could be better.

Emerging from the darkness of the stairs, Saïx paused, surveying his surroundings for any threats. He was slowly becoming accustomed to the need to rely solely on his physical senses. The darkness here was not that which embraced those without hearts. Perhaps it was not true darkness, but perhaps he was thinking to much on abstract subjects as well.

He waited, not turning around but glancing over his shoulder to wait for Xemnas. His ears picked up the vaguest sense of commotion. A muscle twitched, and he had to take a moment to compose himself.

[identity profile] itneverwas.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
As Xemnas ascended the stairs, he too picked up the commotion. He glanced at the other patients with mild curiosity, only to disregard them. It appeared, from what he could see, none of them were a direct treat.

He glanced in the various directions they could possibly take. Despite the beam of the flashlight, he couldn't see much further down these halls. However, he did recognize this as the location where he'd seen the decaying spiders last night. From here, he knew the way to the chapel. However, Xemnas wasn't planning on taking that direction. If they wanted to investigate the building's layout, heading into the same directions each time wouldn't make much progress.

[ooc; do you want them to go a certain way? :3]

It struck Ashton as he carried a bloody, limp Axel to the stairs that Naminé still had his flashlight. Who knew where Manah had put her, though. He was pretty sure she wasn't dead or anything (though he was inclined to worry) but hopefully she had landed wherever Xigbar was going. And he'd said to meet up in M12, right? Or had he just thought that?

But as it was now, carrying Axel down the stairs could be troublesome in the dark. He'd just have to take it slow, leaning against the wall as he went, taking it step by step. In the meantime, he figured he could keep the redhead awake until they reached their bedroom. "Hey, you okay? Any idea what they did to you?" His voice was soft, as soothing as he could make it.

There were others in the staircase, which wasn't so much of a bad deal, he guessed.

[identity profile] bond-off-lame.livejournal.com 2007-04-30 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
As tired as he was, Axel forced himself to stay alert as he followed Manah's childish movements when she swayed around the room. So this girl was a real psychic? The thought of something so young having so much power would've coaxed a chuckle out of him if he hadn't been so absorbed in her words. Instead, his hazed eyes narrowed at her before she managed to say something that caused them widen.

What...?

All of a sudden Axel started coughing, turning his head away from Ashton before letting the blood dribble out of his mouth. His grip tightened over Ashton's shirt, and a noticeable shudder ran down his entire body. Even for a Nobody the redhead had his weaknesses, the comment having struck him worse than he thought. But he said nothing as the man finally walked out of the room and into the hallway, nor had he attempted any kind of conversation as they walked down the corridors in darkness.

Despite the jolt of pain every time his roommate took a step Axel found it to be a small sacrifice compared to the warmth Ashton's body radiated as he carried him. He was quite content to continue down the hall in silence, but the latter's words pulled him out of those heavenly thoughts. Axel heaved a small sigh, about to answer when something in the darkness caught his eye.

... And choked when he found Saïx.

"Ashton, Ashton...!" The redhead wheezed as quietly as he could, panic written all over his face while he tugged at his roommates shirt. "We need to... we need to get... before they... see...me...!"

Javert stepped quietly into the hallway, glancing behind him at Faust, Mal, and Inara. Loath as he was to ask for help - especially from his roommate - it was obvious that he wouldn't get very far wandering in some random direction, pretending to know what he was doing.

"I believe you've seen more of this place than I have," he said to Mal. "Do you have any idea as to where we should go?"

[identity profile] empty-death.livejournal.com 2007-05-01 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Faust frowned as he looked up and down the hallways. It seemed to be a busy night for nearly everyone here... He wondered if it was always like this.

The former doctor had hung back towards the rear of their group. When Javert stopped and adressed Mal, Faust looked towards the unknown man with curiosity. Faust felt that the pharmacy would be found in a place where the staff spent a great deal of time. It would mean less chance of something happening (like patients stealing medication), and it would still give the staff easy access.

But then again, what did he know? He'd never dealt with a hospital like this one before.

Rangiku took the stairs as quietly as could, wary of possible enemies waiting in ambush. It would be too easy to do while they were boxed in. They reached the top of the stairs without incident though, and she glanced back at Rukia and Sora for a moment before stepping out into the hallway, holding the knife more tightly in front of herself.

"Which way?" she asked, keeping her eyes on the darkness instead of looking back.

"Did we want to go to the Chapel first?" Sora whispered, drawing up close to Rangiku. It seemed like there were quite a lot of other patients who had decided to head up tonight, which meant there must have been countless fights raging nearby. There was no need to attract attention to themselves.

Sora was doing his best to be silent. That had never been his specialty, but this was a life or death situation. There were no Curaga spells here - at least, he doubted he could cast any magic. He hadn't actually tried, but considering how hard it was to just summon his Keyblade...

"Axel...?" Otacon asked as he ascended the stairs, spotting the man's unmistakable blazing red hair even in the darkness. He didn't look to be in good shape. Otacon made a move in his direction, but Axel's companion was too quick to pull them down the stairs on the far end of the hall.

There was still a small blood trail on the floor from where Axel and his friend had come from. Otacon recognized it as the general direction of the M-U hallway. Had Axel been fighting, or... was it the more likely answer?

Well, he couldn't wait around to see which other men he'd met had been picked by the Institute. Otacon's only weapons right now were his flashlight and his brain, and he was begin to doubt the usefulness of the latter. If he were really a genius, he wouldn't be up here alone. Maybe.

Elena was honestly surprised. She had expected all sorts of creepy crawlies--the standard Landel's fare--to ambush them on the stairs, but their trek upwards was actually pretty uneventful. Sure, she'd stumbled over the odd step and been obliged to cling to the handrail, but the flashlight really hadn't done much to illuminate the ground directly in front of her...so...

Once she reached the top, Elena paused and looked towards the others. "Now what?"

Although the exchange on the stairwell had all but shot his confidence in his "guides," he couldn't fault them for not knowing. He didn't even know where he was going. As the younger brother and as a Sacrifice, he felt like he should know where Seimei was at all times, but... Well, Natsuo and Yohji were right. He was a lousy Sacrifice. At the top of the stairs, Ritsuka turned on his own flashlight and, stepping to the front of the group, swung a pale circle of light to the right. "Over there is the railing that shows the Sun Room. Seimei and I explored that place - pharmacy, some other useless rooms. Then further down is a hallway with things like the Laundry Room." He arced the beam to the left. "I have no idea what's down that way."
