Nightshift 23 -- Second Floor. Hallway Outside Medical Reference Library/Staff Training Area

[[From here]]

Recluse stopped at the top of the stairs, sufficiently far enough from the flashlight so that he felt a little less jumpy. He scanned the area, trying to make sure there were no unpleasant surprises waiting for him in the dark halls. Satisfied for the moment that the area was safe, he turned to speak quietly to the reporter.

"I haven't been to the chapel before. I assume you know the way?"

Mal had meant pairs, but he realized that they couldn't have assumed that. While he was a bit reckless, he wasn't stupid enough to go exploring on his own. He wasn't sure what help Inara could offer, but she was at least someone he trusted to watch his back. That, and for flashlight duty.

The question of time was a tricky one. Mal sighed. "It's difficult to keep track of how much times passes, but we'll shoot for half an hour." He imagined Inara would be the one urging him to get back to the meeting spot while he insisted on continuing to explore. That was how things always went, though.

"Which way should me and Inara head?" They had the map, after all. While he didn't like taking orders, there wasn't much he could do about it.

Pairs had been what she'd implied, particularly because she'd wanted to talk to Mal. Still, Inara supposed now would hardly be the best of times to bring up the matters they'd discussed. Knowing him, he'd pretend it hadn't happened.

She had to chide herself for being unfair. Knowing herself, she'd pretend it hadn't happened too if she didn't say something. There was too much unspoken between them. Sometimes it was suffocating.

Perhaps it could wait until morning. It was silly to be concerned about things like that when they had a bigger problem to deal with. Without missing a beat she nodded and chimed in.

"Half an hour sounds like enough time to get a basic idea of what's in our immediate vicinity," she agreed, pausing before adding a more personal, "I'm sure you can both handle yourselves, but please be careful."

Faust nodded and smiled slightly. "Very well," he agreed. "Javert and I will go this way." He gestured to the right. "We will meet back here in thirty minutes."
