Night 41: Recreational Field

[From here]

Just as in the hallways inside the building, the field looked completely deserted. von Karma saw not a single person nor creature upon it. Far to the northwest was his destination: an old supply shed that contained items that he would find marginally useful to defend himself -- at least until he could acquire something better. As much as he dreaded making that trek once again to that filthy, dusty old structure, he headed for it, keeping under the cover of the shadows of the main building. As he did so, he warily looked around for signs of potential danger, gripping his flashlight tightly in his hand in case of a sudden attack.

Well. This was definitely not the electric demon described in the monster bestiary. Leon was pretty sure this didn't resemble anything in the established bestiary, and it certainly wasn't something he had any experience in fighting. It resembled some of the Aeth'erian technology, or a smaller version of the buses they went into town in, sort of. The wheels were similar, in any case, but it seemed to be moving on its own. The problem with this lack of knowledge was that Leon had no idea how to assess the threat. Retreat? Fight? He had no clue, and that bothered him. "... Damn it, what the hell are you supposed to be?"

Stahn was far less calm about it. "Holy hell, what is that thing?!" he yelped, looking around for shelter to run to. Was the shed sturdy enough? Dammit, probably not... no trees around... now what?!

"Do we turn around?" he asked Leon in what was meant to be an anxious whisper. It came out a bit louder than that; he wasn't quite planning on grabbing his friend and running, but the monsters he'd been facing around Cresta in recent years had nothing on this thing.

Bel took a step back as Lockdown came out of stealth mode, blinking and trying to process a car, of all things, racing towards them. At the words from his 'companions', Belphegor just kind of stared at them- were they really that moronic?

Immediately, he began trying to think of ways to get out without attracting attention- immobilizing it out here seemed to be a bit of a stretch of the imagination, regardless, and Belphegor wasn't an expert on cars anyway. "Shelter, quickly." He murmurs, trying to think, to figure the situation out and take advantage of it- but nothing. "I'm not sure how fast that car can go, but it's bound to be able to outrun us in a heartbeat."

If he left them behind, maybe the time it would take to plow them over could ensure his safety? Belphegor filed that thought away as he stepped back once more, trying to see what the next move would be before doing anything too drastic.

Lockdown soon caught up with the group, but stayed a few meters away, ready to chase them if they tried to run. His red lights casted a forbidding glow over them and he growled out, "Since I'm in a good mood, I'll give you the chance to go back the way you came. I'm only going to be this generous once, so if you feel like wasting it, then I'll mash you under my tires." Okay, that he couldn't do. Not fatally, at any rate. At the most, he'd just run into them with his front and break their bones.

The 'car', whatever that was, was definitely moving on its own. And talking. Back in his own world, with his full abilities and powers, Leon wouldn't have hesitated a moment--his blade could easily shear through metal, there, and Chal's stone magic was a formidable thing against any kind of foe. But here? With only one energy-based attack available to him and way too much effort needed before he could use it? With Stahn barely armed and Belphegor both unarmed and unreliable?

Not worth it. Not even close to worth it. So, for the second time in much too short a time period, Leon ground his teeth in frustration and signalled for a retreat. "Back inside. Now."

Well, another three down. Lockdown scanned over the field, noting at least four more humans had entered the area. Two of them, travelling together, seemed cautious and would probably go back the way they came pretty soon. The other one was a young female, and was just standing around, looking bored. The third looked much more promising. He looked like he was heading for the wall.

Lockdown revved his engine and steered towards the direction of that man.
