Night 41: Recreational Field

[From here]

Just as in the hallways inside the building, the field looked completely deserted. von Karma saw not a single person nor creature upon it. Far to the northwest was his destination: an old supply shed that contained items that he would find marginally useful to defend himself -- at least until he could acquire something better. As much as he dreaded making that trek once again to that filthy, dusty old structure, he headed for it, keeping under the cover of the shadows of the main building. As he did so, he warily looked around for signs of potential danger, gripping his flashlight tightly in his hand in case of a sudden attack.

Lockdown wasn't sure exactly what had happened just recently. However, he was the happiest he had been since he'd been here.

He remembered being dragged away from his room and injected with needles, and HK-47 telling him to "have fun". Once they had taken him upstairs, everything went fuzzy and he barely registered anything after that. The only thing he knew was that when he was coherent again, he was back in his real body and had orders to guard the Recreational Field. Lockdown had happily obliged.

A lone human wandered onto the field, oblivious to his presence. His stealth mode had done the job perfectly. Time to move in and do what he had been ordered.

The muscle car revved his engine loudly, came out of stealth mode, turned on his red high-beams, and quickly drove towards the human with the intent to hit him. He wasn't going fast enough to kill the human, but it would certainly cause the man a great deal of pain.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Lockdown sped right past the human as he darted out of the way, cursing silently to himself. Had that human reacted a second too late, Lockdown would have had him.

The muscle car slammed on his brakes and turned his steering wheel hard, skidding against the ground and sending grass and dirt flying. He then hit the gas hard and sped in the direction the human was now heading. The human had gotten a good head start, though, which made Lockdown internally snarl. He revved his engine threateningly for good measure.

Lockdown hit the brakes hard, just within a few feet of the building. Slag, the human got away. This was going to get his pay docked for sure.

Well, at least he'd given the man a good scare. Lockdown just loved seeing fear in others. It excited him, and brought out that natural predatory instinct in him.

The muscle car turned his lights off, drove back to his waiting spot near the edge of the field and went into stealth mode once more, lying in wait for whoever dared to try and cross this field.

Tenzen opened the door at the end of the hallway, and quickly discovered he had indeed reached an outside area. His eyes looked over the field, noticing the strange structures with the netting and the small shack a little further up ahead. Like the courtyard, this area was also surrounded by walls. Most likely to prevent anyone from escaping, but a wall wouldn't stop one of the ten chosen Iga.

The ninja decided that the little shack might be worth paying a visit too before trying to climb the walls. He headed into it's direction, all the while keeping watch of his surroundings. Even if he remained skeptical about the nonsense he had heard, the ninja was no idiot. Monsters or not, it'd be foolish to let his guard down in such an alien place.

And he couldn't help but think this had been incredibly easy thus far...

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, what was this? Yet another inmate had wandered onto the field. Two inmates in just a short while. The night was just getting started and already Lockdown was having the time of his life.

Lockdown thought about trying to run him down like he had the last man, but then decided to shake things up a little. Doing the same thing over and over would get repetitive.

The muscle car revved his engine loudly, came out of stealth mode, and flashed his red high-beams. He quickly drove towards the dark-haired man, slamming on his brakes right before hitting him, hoping to get a good scare out of him.

Lockdown revved his engine threateningly again, and growled, "I'm only gonna say this once, so listen up. Go back to your cell and I won't grind you into pulp." The threat was half-empty, of course, since he was under strict orders not to kill. Didn't mean he couldn't scare them, though.

[identity profile] should-be-dead.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Someone had to be joking.

Reaching this field had been too easy indeed, so meeting some sort of guard should be expected. Human, perhaps. Or even some sort of monster as those madmen were so keen on believing. Tenzen might have expected some sort of Oni, or possibly even an animated corps. There were many things that could be defined as a monster, after all.

He did not, however, expect this large, roaring thing made of metal to suddenly appear on the other side of the field. More importantly, said large, roaring thing made of metal was heading into his direction, and he was doing so fast.

The ninja didn't have the time to reach the shed, one of the walls or even get back inside the building. At this rate, it was going to run into him and the impact would hardly be pleasant judging from the thing's speed. He could only mutter a curse before-

-it stopped right in front of his nose.

Tenzen blinked, and narrowed his eyes at the thing as it emitted a strange roar. Was this some sort of metal beast?

"I was wondering if there'd be any guards." The Iga answered to the threat, not showing an ounce of fear. Not to say he wasn't aware of the situation he was in, however. Though this metal beast wouldn't be able to kill him permanently, it was no reason to not avoid death if possible. Tenzen was much, but not completely reckless. It'd pay to be a little cautious, especially because he had no desire to advertise his ability so clearly.

There were various options available. One was attempting to outrun this beast, but considering the show of its speed earlier it remained to be seen whether he was able to. The second was to retreat for now and find another way. And the third was to simply wait for a distraction and then head for the walls. The only problem with the latter option was that the ninja couldn't tell when (or if) any potential bait would show up on this field, which made the plan rather unreliable. And that still left the time between now and the arrival of more patients.

It was rather irritating, however. Tenzen hadn't been confronted with such a situation since the incident with Gennosuke back at Iga only mere days ago.

"How considerate it is of you to warn me." He continued, attempting to delay the metal beast' assault as he glanced over the field, trying to find a distraction.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, a wiseaft, huh? Well, Lockdown knew just how to deal with his kind. He was also a little disapointed that the human showed no obvious fear. Well, the muscle car would now show him true fear.

"Yes, and like I said, it was the only one you were ever going to get," Lockdown turned his lights off, and there was the sound of gears and cogs turning, along with the sight of metal parts shifting and sliding as the muscle car transformed. Within a second, the giant, imposing form of Lockdown's robot mode loomed over the dark-haired man.

Smiling cruelly down at the human, Lockdown reached down with one massive hand to grab him.

[identity profile] should-be-dead.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
This didn't look good.

The metal beast had transformed into a larger form, which looked more humanoid in the sense that it sported both arms and legs, but that was where the comparison ended. It was large, and as it loomed over him he couldn't help but to admit it was also imposing.

It went without saying that it could crush him without breaking a sweat (figuratively speaking, of course). Some said Tenzen was arrogant, but the man knew a threat he couldn't defeat when he saw one. Aside from that there weren't any distractions present on the field. Strike distraction, he would need to get back inside. Having to retreat was pissing him off, which - instead of fear - showed obviously on his features as he narrowed his eyes and gritted as teeth.

He was being attacked by a metal giant. If he hadn't been the one in this situation he would never have believed such utter nonsense

Tenzen darted to the side, attempting to avoid the incoming hand and moving towards the closest door leading back inside.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockdown snarled when the human managed to avoid being grabbed. He wasn't going to get away that easily. Not if the bounty hunter had anything to say about it.

Since the field was not that big and Lockdown's legs were much longer than a human's, he could keep up with the running man easily. The bounty hunter thought about trying to grab the man again, but then decided to do something much more fun instead.

Lockdown raised his hand and a metal spike protruded from his wrist. The hunter took careful aim, and right as the man reached the door, a surge of electricity shot out of the spike and towards the man.

The bolt wasn't strong enough to be fatal, but it would leave someone numb in their body. This would make it very hard for them to move, although anyone strong or determined enough might be able to drag themselves across the floor until the numbness wore off after about 20 to 30 minutes.

[identity profile] should-be-dead.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
The giant had no trouble keeping up with him, no matter how fast Tenzen ran. His eyes narrowed at the realization, knowing far too well that it was only a matter of it deciding when to attack. He cursed the thing to hell before finally reaching the door.

But as his hands locked around the door handle, the bolt of electricity hit it's target. A gasp of both pain and surprise escaped his throat, but despite everything, the ninja managed to push the door open as he tumbled back inside the building.

Damn it! Damn it all to hell.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
Lockdown smirked evily as his bolt hit its target and the human stumbled into the building. That human wasn't going anywhere for a while. Not without help, anyway.

The bounty hunter walked back to his lookout point, transformed back into car mode and once more slipped into stealth mode. This was already the greatest night he'd had since he'd ended up here.

Yuuhi pushed open the door and slipped outside, glancing around the field. It seemed empty, but one never knew when those birds might come down and attack. It was best to stay near the building and be as unobtrusive as possible. He debated turning off his light, but left it on, just in case.

With any luck, Ururu and her friends would be out here soon and he could leave her to them. She'd probably be safer there anyway.

At this point, Sora wasn't too surprised to see that the field was completely empty. It hadn't looked like many patients had been coming this direction, though the fact that he was out here on his own was still pretty eerie.

He strained his ears, trying to detect the sound of any monsters that might be moving around beyond his field of vision, but there was nothing.

Allen also wasn't here yet, obviously. Sora really hoped that the boy would show up. Even if Allen was mad at him, Sora still wanted the chance to say he was sorry and try to explain himself.

Still, all he could do was wait, and so Sora leaned himself against the side of the building, taking as much strain off of his wounds as he could.

After much wandering through the unlit corridors with absolutely nothing to kill, they were finally outside. Which he usually hated in his meatbag state, (the germs!) now...

The first thing he noticed was the havoc that had been caused to the grass. Marks that matched those of a four-wheeled vehicle. He had guessed right! Unfortunately, he couldn't see anything, even in infrared. He ventured a little out onto the field itself, scanning the immediate area. There might be heat trails that he could detect, if nothing else...

[identity profile] quickdrawbkiddo.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
Beatrix's eyes flickered across the field, also noting the treadmarks and catching a subtle whiff of ozone in the air. Something wasn't quite right. Why would there be a vehicle in this location. Sure, there might have been a lawnmower in the nearby shed, but it most certainly wasn't the type to leave this kind of evidence.

She brought her hand up to her katana, ready to draw the blade from across her back if necessary. She did not move beyond the immediate area surrounding the doorway. "What do you see?"

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, more humans were starting to come onto the field. Good. Lockdown was starting to get bored.

He flicked his sensors over the three of them. One was all alone, the other two seemed to be traveling together. Lockdown contemplated which ones to go for. He thought about picking off the lone one, but then decided to go with the pair. Perhaps he would get paid extra for getting two at once.

For the third time that night, Lockdown revved his engine, to give fair warning, and then deactivated his stealth-mode and activated his red high-beams. The muscle car sped towards the two humans at an alarming speed. Like before, he went fast enough to only cause injury, and not kill.

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Statement: Nothi--" He was cut off as the sudden lights and quite visible infrared signature appeared out of nowhere. Stealthed? How interesting! "Correction: I see my roommate!" HK didn't have much choice but to dive out of the way at the last second, rolling and coming to his feet in a position ready to dodge again, taking a moment to make sure this would be burned into his memory core before shifting almost all of his processing power to reaction time.

He knew he wouldn't get any favorable response, but he couldn't help opening his mouth. "Greeting: Hello, Lockdown!" His tone was oddly cheerful for one addressing a being who had just nearly run him over.

[identity profile] quickdrawbkiddo.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
Despite the tire treads, Beatrix had not been expecting a car to come speeding across the field at her and the other assassin. A car, though, was something she could handle, not knowing it was more than just a car.

She'd already reacted by the time the correlation between car and roommate registered; this wasn't the first time someone had tried to run her down. Pushing the pain out of her mind, the Bride leaped as HK-47 dove out of the way, her feet coming to land on the car's hood from where she stabbed her now drawn sword at the windshield right where the driver would be located and end his life.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Lockdown hadn't been expecting the female to jump onto his hood, and he just barely noticed when the man greeted him by name.

The muscle car slammed on the brakes hard as the female's sword started to come down onto his red-tinted windshield, and quickly transformed into robot mode, his hood becoming his legs, trying to toss her off of him.

He glared at each of them in turn, and growled, "Get back to your cells, humans. This is your first and last warning."

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
HK stepped a little farther back as Lockdown transformed. The instant HK saw that faceplate, he knew his assumption had been absolutely correct. He really wished he could be part of that production line now!

"Suggestion: I think doing what the Cybertronian bounty hunter says would be the best idea, meatbag..." It didn't mean he wasn't going to keep looking up at Lockdown with... well, a very, very slight fanboy-ish expression, but he was remembering his own actions last night, and didn't really want to lose any of his extremities.

[identity profile] quickdrawbkiddo.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
Her aim was true, death reflected in her cold eyes should the driver be able to see them from behind that tinted windshield, and then her footing became extremely unstable. The thing was... turning into something else.

Beatrix jumped back to the ground, though she stumbled her landing some with the force that thing had added to it. Now what HK-47 had made sense. The Bride stepped back again as she took in the giant robot before her. She'd seen some bizarre things in this place, but to see something like this...

HK-47's words made sense and, although she was already looking the frame over to find the weak points in the joints, the places were a sword could do some damage, she had already decided she did not wish further confrontation. She was too injured to sustain a battle of any length and she'd moved too much already.

"I have no intention of arguing," she said, glancing over at her droid companion. "And do wipe the drool off your face. it's unbecoming of an assassin droid."

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Lockdown continued to glare at the humans for a couple of seconds. One of them looked like she wanted to hurt him, as foolish as that was, while the other just looked at him with some stupid-looking expression. The bounty hunter snorted disdainfully, and murmured, "Stupid humans."

Lockdown reached down towards the young man with his large hand, intending to snatch him up. Perhaps getting up close and personal would show him that the bounty hunter meant business. If the other one caused trouble, Lockdown would just stun her like he had the dark-haired man from earlier. Either that or throw a smoke-bomb at her to confuse her.

[identity profile] arc-wrench.livejournal.com 2009-06-01 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
"Exclamation: I am not drooling, and I am not a human meatbag!" And HK felt the best way of proving it was to not get grabbed by his currently giant, hostile roommate, putting the augmented reaction time to good use as he did his best to evade the hand reaching for him.

He might have just realized that yes, it was possible for him to become infatuated with someone, but he was still an HK model assassin droid! He had operational standards and a reputation to live up to!
