Night 41: M-B Block Hallway

[From here]

After a few minutes, von Karma arrived at the main patient block hallway. Although it was nearly identical to that of the one in which he was formerly assigned, it felt different to him. Certainly, the trip from his room to the hallway was somewhat longer than it had been for him previously.

Right now, he was the only one in here, but that would soon change as more patients left their rooms. Wanting to avoid inviting any kind of trouble by tarrying here too long, he cautiously peered out the door to ensure that no threats existed. Satisfied that there were none, he went through the door to enter the main hallway.

This was going to get confusing. He could already tell. Where was Rise when you needed her to give you the layout of the place? Yousuke could imagine her popping into his head at any moment, telling him to watch out for that shadow lurking around the corner...

Hitsugaya ignored the other doors and halls. His mind was focused on finding Hinamori. He had a lot of things he wanted to say to her.

Claude slowed down a little as he made his way down the hall. He knew where Guy's room was located, and he debated on just heading down there himself. But they hadn't arranged it ahead of time, so it was possible he'd be intruding if he did just pop by. Claude didn't want to make a nuisance of himself if he could help it.

In the end, he decided to lean against the wall, giving his injured leg a bit more rest. There wasn't anyone out here, so they wouldn't have any problems seeing each other, right?

He felt bad that he'd been unable to contact Luke before the end of the day, which meant the meat cleaver was still sitting in his room. Claude was sure Guy would understand, but it was kind of strange he hadn't heard from the redhead all day. There was tomorrow, he supposed, but...

Well, they'd worry about that after tonight. Claude knew he needed to stay focused so they could get healed and then work on getting to the basement.

Guy had expected that they were all going to meet up outside the patient blocks, but as he moved down the hall toward the exit he spotted a very familiar face waiting for him. Or at least, that was what he assumed Claude was doing. The younger man would have no other reason to just be standing there.

He headed over as quickly as he could considering his injury, sending his friend an appreciative smile once he reached him. "Nice of you to wait for me," he greeted.

It was true that there wasn't much that was going well for Guy right now, what with the earlier shift he'd spent with Van and the worrying lack of Luke, but all of that could be dealt with the next day. During the night, he would rather be all business. They didn't have the time to spare on anything else.

He was sure Dias felt the same way, which meant they shouldn't keep him and his healer waiting, either. "Ready to go?" he prompted Claude.

The hallway was virtually deserted. Was he running fast or something? Huh. Slowing down was probably a good idea; he didn't want to catch ZEX too early, and then he could keep a better eye on the equipment. Glass was breakable, after all, and considering the likelihood of monster attacks in this joint...

The box under his arm dug uncomfortably into his hip as he moved. The sooner he could be rid of this slag, the better.

The hallways were well-trodden, and more people were starting to venture out. Yuffie's footsteps remained quiet, for all her casual pace. Out of habit, she skirted away from any flashlight beams, kept a wary half-eye on her surroundings. Just in case. Yukari had said, back on the board, that she'd be the one responsible if anything happened, right? These particular hallways were said to be the safest in the institute, but it was kind of hard to turn instinct off. Wasn't like there was a flippy-switch, a big red button, or a lever.

[identity profile] remedying.livejournal.com 2009-05-31 10:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yukari, on the other hand, kept her strolling rather casual and nonchalant no matter how many flashlight beams were around them, like it was just another walk down just another hallway down the same route she had taken a thousand times before ... Okay, not literally, but she had been down this way enough times to the point where Yukari might have felt fine coming without the flashlight. Not that she would, but the point was still there. Somewhere along the way she had finally taken off the lollipop's wrapper and let it sit in her mouth during their trip, watching Yuffie as she did.

"Which way?" Yukari asked, briefly slowing her pace down the hallway.

And just a hop and a skip from here and he'd find the men's bathrooms. He usually asked the nurses to let him stop off there to wash his face and whatnot before he was taken to the cafeteria, so he knew the way well. Even if he'd never been there at night, he couldn't see there being many problems in a loo of all things. What nasty beast would want to hang about in there, right?

Hurrying across the hall before anyone could see him, he ducked into the bathrooms and shut the door.

Feeling refreshed, Grell considered going back and throwing his useless items back into his room. Even when he'd lost a few scalpels or a sleeve or two, however, the things seemed to come back. And really, if he lost his patient uniform? Oh, he'd cry for ages. Not.

Taking his makeup out, he slipped the parcels into his pocket and then tossed the rest of the bag into the bathroom. If he really needed it, he'd get a new one.

Now, the important part was to get to the main hallway and to find Wally West. Whatever the man wanted, it wasn't going to be just a chat and a bit of fun if he had taken the notes down immediately after promising to meet. Turning on his heel, Grell started down the hall, humming quietly to himself as he went.

Hah... it was kind of dark out here, wasn't it?

The beam from the flashlight didn't seem to illuminate very much of what Kibitoshin couldn't help but think was a rather large area. At least there were a few other people around to ease his concerns. No wonder the notes on the bulletin board had advocated travelling with a partner, if travelling alone was going to be like this. Silently he scolded himself for not leaving a note for Trunks- they might have been able to tackle the night together then, and then he wouldn't have had to worry about-

No, no, no! He was doing it again! Worrying! That just wasn't going to do. It was only a building, after all, it wasn't as though there was going to be anything worse here than he'd already faced back in his own universe. What was a monster in comparison to Majin Buu?

Still. He did hope Trunks was okay...

Hallways were, above all, a pain. Tyki couldn't help but to inwardly complain about them every single night, mainly because they were so incredibly tedious.

He spotted Kibitoshin somewhere in the hallway, but he had met that guy during the day. It seemed keeping both sides separate was a little more difficult in here than it was back home, so he needed to be a little more careful about it. The line preventing white and black from turning into one shade of grey was a thin one, and in order to maintain both, that line shouldn't be crossed.

Slowly, cautiously, Nathan moved into the adjoining hallway, looking around. He moved his flashlight around, taking in his surroundings. The hallway looked the same as it had when his nurse had first escorted him from it and to the courtyard. For a moment, Nathan considered following that path -- at least then, he wouldn't get lost. There were a few people in the hall around -- a few more than in the last hallway, at least -- but Nathan didn't disturb them, and they moved past him, sometimes talking quietly amongst each other, all set on their pre-determined path.

There were two doors -- one led to a bathroom, judging by the signs on the doors. The other was closed, but Nathan remembered it as the door his nurse had taken him through earlier, and so he approached it, going through.

Ciel's steps were slow and measured as he progressed down the hall way, double checking to make sure he had grabbed his map. He felt around his pocket for the neatly folded piece of paper and glanced at it carefully, making sure he was headed in the right direction.

It would be logical to check the storage facilities first for any supplies, but they seemed to be located on the second floor. Ciel would have to go through a series of hallways to get there, all of which were starting to appear heavily populated judging by the amount of people wordlessly passing him by and ignoring him.

From the looks of things, everyone else had been placed in the same position, relying on exploration and scavenging for survival. Ciel hated to think he would have to live like this, almost on par with a starved rat, wandering around a winding maze for a prize at the end that may or may not be there. Fortunately, it looked like there were no monsters hidden here or nothing of note. Still, he had to keep his eyes peeled for any of the unsavory characters he'd been warned about.

The sameness of these hallways was almost dizzying. Youko was starting to feel like she was caught in a nightmare, that she'd be wandering identical hallways forever and never actually find Enki.

But then the first room up the first hallway was M80. Probably four halls, ten rooms each, same as the other blocks, which meant this block had 41-80. Thank goodness! Enki's room, M57, should be in the third hallway from the right.

The trip to the block of rooms was uneventful, as these things went: not a sign of a monster or any indication that the other patients had noticed her passing by, both of which were good things indeed. However, as Ayumu moved toward the hallway with Okita's room, she heard Yuffie's voice up ahead and quickly moved back again.

All right, so she apparently hadn't waited long enough to move on. There'd been the note on the board about Yuffie getting a weapon back from someone in M61, and - oh, that was right, she'd mentioned a replacement for the man's "staff" in return. That must be the point of the closet destruction earlier.

Ayumu slipped back into the shadows of the main hallway, settling in to wait where she could keep an eye on the smaller hall. Hopefully the exchange wouldn't take too long. And in the meantime she could mentally review the list of things that she needed to ask Okita, once she got there.

This hallway had a few people passing through it- Same outfit as me. Other patients, I suppose- but certainly wasn't large enough to be considered a major hall.

The boy's right hand traced the wall as his left squeezed tight around himself. He had known that connection wasn't there--hadn't he tried it enough in the days after to learn that? But feeling it now, a dead and empty thing, as lifeless as their bond had become--but had it? Had it really? Just today, hadn't Rubedo--made the boy miss a step, two hearts beating, one heart breaking.

And this is what was made of him.

Tracing the link back, Albedo touched on another, and in this state, couldn't find anger at the youngest existing. Familiarity, something there pulled at him, and the need for something--

{...Nigredo?} the white-haired Variant sent, sounding just as Albedo had been; uncertain and sad, broken and lonely--something in need of comfort but not understanding how to ask.

The response wasn't questioned, merely taken as something that was.

{What... Where... Why....} The thoughts, mangled and twisted with pain, were cut off by a sob that was never heard past the internal realms of self. If Nigredo was looking for a deeper reflection or a well-plotted ploy, the boy would have to look elsewhere. What resided here currently, was something that was entirely too broken.

Too much had happened. Much too much.

Nearly there... hmm.

Zelnick slowly stopped, and looked over at Talana, growing serious. "Talana... you aren't going to attack him or anything just 'cause he's a VUX, are you?" Tanaka had, kinda, but he was a lot less level-headed than Talana (even if he was pretty level-headed for a Shofixti). (Which said a lot about the Shofixti, really...)

...All right, that was actually a somewhat valid question, considering Talana's initial reaction to the news that a VUX was here, not to mention the long-standing hostility between her species and theirs. But she still wasn't happy with the implication that she would just charge straight into battle without even stopping to observe the situation.

"I will give it every change to prove itself," she assured Zelnick. "After all, it is your ally..." Or so Zelnick thought, anyway. Talana was going reserve judgment until she had actually seen and spoken to this VUX.

And at any rate, she was hardly going to attack it, even if it did prove to be hostile. Placing it under the control of her song would be far more satisfying.

The hallway was deserted. That probably had something to do with the fact that he'd taken some time to look over the maps closely and make sure he knew where he would be going, since he wasn't really looking to get lost. If he had to tell Jason that he couldn't find the damn janitor's closet, Harvey wasn't going to be happy about it.

He was going to have to go upstairs, which he hadn't done thus far. Then again, there was a first time for everything, and he wasn't sure he would even get the chance to see the second story unless he went there during the night when there weren't nurses around to tell him that such-and-such area was prohibited.

The freedom would have been easier to appreciate if he didn't have to worry about rotting dogs coming out of nowhere. It would be best if he wasn't captured in the first place, but apparently he wasn't so lucky. Frowning to himself, Harvey exited the block.

Stepping out into the hallway made the brightness of Megatron’s quarters almost seem comforting. His optics, which would normally adjusted after his processor automatically compensated for the light density, left him blinking rapidly with bursts of light shining behind his eyelids. He let out a low grunt of annoyance, turning the flashlight back on. The contrasting brightness quickly made the light-bursts return. Joy.

The hallway was empty, but not silent. There must have been other captives moving in the vicinity, as there were quiet clicks followed by the telltale sharpness of footsteps. That being said, Megatron could not sense the presence of any entities – human or creature – nearby, so he calmly began to walk.

Megatron braced his back against the door whilst he moved - if he kept his back covered, it removed one avenue of fatality. He was half turned on his side, flicking the gaze of the flashlight repetitively against the opposite wall. Megatron would shine the light in front of him briefly before pausing, turning back further on his side, and shining the gaze backwards to where he had just walked. It was not a remotely efficient pattern of moving, but it was a safe one. It would only take the slightest misstep, the tiniest miscalculation of his safety, and Megatron knew that he would find himself on the Quintesson scrapheap. He had seen Lugnut’s injury earlier. Even whilst trapped in a colossal human form, his subordinate had been injured. It would take less force to do greater damage to Megatron’s more fragile, aged organic body, and offlining in such a way was not an option.

This situation was a familiar one to Faize. In fact, it was exactly like his last visit to Earth. Trapped in a research facility with other extraterrestrials, the doors unlocking, and now, navigating the halls with monsters lurking about...

At least Faize could claim to have some experience in all of this.

What he couldn't claim to have was confidence in his current battle abilities. With his advanced training, it was possible that he would be able to handle monsters, but he was unarmed, and the effectiveness of his symbology was yet to be seen. Patients had claimed that special abilities were weakened, and until Faize could confirm whether or not he was affected, it was best to exercise caution.

It seemed that everyone else was moving in one direction, and from the map Faize had seen on the board, he could recall that the other ways only led to more patient rooms. For the time being, he supposed it would be best to follow the crowd and see where it took him.

He couldn't just boss him around whenever he wanted even if he was older than Kon now. Not like it made much of a difference - Kon knew he must look exactly the same now as he did whenever Robin was from. It was kind of depressing to think about. Or it would be, if he weren't Superboy. And if Robin hadn't come looking for him like this. It meant they had to still be team-mates a few years in the future when Kon hadn't grown up at all. Which was really cool to know, not that anyone would NOT want to be on a team with Superboy but... it was still cool to know that Robin could admit that.

"So, we're still on a team together, right?" He just felt like confirming it.... because. He didn't need to know that Robin and the others weren't going to leave him behind or anything. Just wanted to hear it. That is, if Robin was actually going to answer him and not just keep walking.
