Nightshift 39: Patient Possessions
[from here]
Well, the noise would certainly alert anything already inside, but there wasn’t much to be done about, now was there? He stepped inside and to the left, searching the darkness for movement, but…
Nothing had immediately jumped out to latch onto his face. That was a plus.
“Looking for the things from your other life?” he asked, turning to regard Leon. The obvious question. The doll, at least, was a little curious what was in his own box ever since the last time he’d been in this room, but not everyone would share his blasé outlook on it. If anyone. Though who knew if Leon was even interested in his own stuff.

At the sound of the door opening, the shadows moved, a woman's figure raising to stand from its crouched position on the floor, bringing the glow and hiss of hot metal with it. She turned her eyes to the intruders, watching. They shouldn't be in here. She was cleaning.
"Sirs."

The real question was, then, was this a patient who happened to be armed and have some degree of power, or was this a real enemy? The latter... probably not worth fighting for a few scraps of leather, no.

He looked to the third presence in the room, but kept his torso turned towards Leon, one hand on his hip. His casual stance belied his readiness to resort to his second sight if he had to. Considering what could be “curly purple hair” and was definitely a hot piece of metal, going up against her would no doubt mean he’d have to. He was relatively sure she was no simple prisoner.
“Hey,” he said in response to her. “Excuse us.” And to Leon, in a more subdued tone, “She’s been mentioned on the bulletin board. We shouldn’t risk it.”

"The Masters wish of you to return to your rooms, sirs."

To the woman, Leon bowed slightly from the waist, replacing his sword in its makeshift belt. "We will withdraw, then, m'am."

No matter the case, the doll didn’t get a good feeling from the woman for a variety of reasons. And he’d had a long time to develop that sense. Thankfully, the kid didn’t seem up to arguing about leaving without a fight, whether it was because he’d taken Ren’s word for it, or because he had his own soldier’s instinct.
Didn’t much matter which. He couldn’t imagine there was something worth fighting a guard dog for. But then why is she here?
The doll stayed still as well, only taking a small step once Leon seemed ready to leave, putting himself between the boy and the woman so that Leon could go first. If her territory was just the patient possessions room, chances were she wouldn’t leave it, but that was another theory without any real evidence. Better to be safe than sorry if she decided to take a lunge at them.

She kept her eyes on them a moment longer, then turned on her heels, crouched back down to the floor, and continued her process of scrubbing the tiles diligently. They needed to be clean. Everything needed to be clean.

Snarling wordlessly in frustration, Leon hurried out of the room before his temper could get the better of him.
