Nightshift 38: East Wing, Hall A

[From here.]

Soubi was certain he knew the way now. He'd come along here with Ritsuka, alone....teasing the boy with that can. Oh yes. He'd enjoyed that, though they'd had discussions about things Soubi would rather have hidden from. But you can't win them all.

Finding the door, he gave the handle a twist and a push but, like last time, it was a job for his shoulder. He stepped back before forcing his weight into it. The door opened and he shone the light in from the torch, checking for monsters.

[Going here.]

It was completely dark when they approached the hallway, but it didn't look like there was anything out here just yet. Hopefully it would remain that way. Probably depended on whether or not the Janitor's closet was locked or not or if they'd have to knock it down.

"Should be that one," Allen pointed out.

"You're calling me crazy for trying to open a door? This from the guy who's talking about killing someone? Man, you suck!" Kon laughed cheerfully, his earlier concern about attracting giant monsters completely forgotten. This time he was certain Sanzo was exaggerating with the talk of killing the head doctor. He was a good guy and good guys didn't kill.

Sauntering down the next hall Kon looked over the names of each room. Most of them didn't seem worth the time, laundry, mail, water. Boring. He could hear voices from inside the janitor's closet but what the hell would you expect to find in there? The name on the last door on the right made him pull up short.

"Hey man, check this out!" Patient possessions had to mean their stuff would be in there! Maybe he could get his costume back. If he was really lucky his Hypertime jacket might be in there too. Even if he couldn't leave yet, he'd feel way better knowing where it was. And that it hadn't blown up and vaporised someone or anything like that.

He followed Sora out into the hall, giving the gentlemen a little more space in the cramped closet. Allen pulled out the map again, glancing over it as they walked.

"It looks like it might save us some time if leave the institute this way," he pointed out, tracing a line from their position to the area around the greenhouse. The other way might be just as likely to have those giant birds, but at least there was the small chance they might escape without a fight.

This hallway was relatively empty, with only two others currently here. Brainiac 5 spared them a quick glance before looking back up at Clark. "I'm not quite sure where to go from here, perhaps one of these rooms is a store room?"

Xelloss's immediate instinct was to look towards the janitor's closet, which a quick shine of the flashlight revealed had already been opened. "Oh, dear. Well, we were a little late, and there may be some interesting things left there! If not, we can try the other rooms."

Further down the hallway, another monster, one he hadn't seen before, and another set of patients he didn't know. He glanced in that direction too, but didn't comment this time on the monster, presumably because the 'monster orientation' part of the tour was over.

The door they were looking for was just up ahead. And already broken into. Convenient. She took a few steps forward, still not noticing her hand across her torso. The weight of the case in her other hand was shifting the fractures.

The fight against... the large hairy individual was still raging on, not that Xelloss minded so long as the two fighting against it managed to stay alive and therefore keep the monster's attention for now. Then again, if they died, maybe it would pause to eat. He might have questioned why monsters seemed so drawn towards attacking patients, even beyond reason or past what hunger should have dictated, if it weren't for the unnatural state already obvious in so many of the more decayed monsters and the fact that plenty of individuals in his own world, both human and otherwise, were driven for reasons of their own into hopeless battles. Not that the monster wasn't making a decent showing for itself.

"Hmm, avoiding the mess there," the mess naturally being the fight, "we still can probably sneak past through a few doors. Let's see. There were things like medical equipment behind one of these doors..." Xelloss trailed off, as though he couldn't quite remember which one.

And out into the hall again. Well, they weren't making bad time, were they? The fact that Xelloss hadn't gotten anything out of the trip other than his own entertainment was no problem; he'd taken longer trips for less reason before. It was growing less entertaining as the king was more successful, though, so he directed his flashlight again not quite directly at the fight taking place in the very same hallway, where one of the fighters had gone down.

"My, they seem to be having trouble, after all." He didn't step forward to help them, and had a strong feeling that 'his highness' wouldn't feel any great charitable urges either. "If they lose, it might be a bit annoying for the rest of us, if we stay in this hallway... unless it pauses to eat them. It does look a bit bloodied, though, maybe it won't have the energy to pursue others even if it wins. Which side do you think will come through?"

Indy ran along the near side of the hallway, still half crouched over. The right sleeve of his leather jacket was almost skimming the wall with every step. He wasn't all that worried about King Kong back there--they could probably handle him, especially with the gunshot wounds. The real problem was the possibility of getting caught in the gunfire. So far, though, he didn't hear any.

What he did think he could hear were the quiet noises of Pierson running behind him, but he couldn't be sure--and hell if he was gonna slow down to check. Almost there.

Another long hallways with a number of doors leading off; some open some closed and possibly locked. He hoped that they weren't locked. That would take more effort to get through than he would like. "Which door is it?" he asked softly, pausing next to the first door that he came across. "And which side of the hall." Shame the map had been so waterlogged, then again, maps were usually most helpful when you could see what you were looking for.
