Nightshift 21: F1-F10 Hallway
Naminé realized all too late when she returned to her room that she had neglected to ask where Kairi's room was. There was a good chance that she was close by, but at the same time... there was a chance she was all the way in the very last halls. Or maybe she had already left!
Naminé didn't bother eating her dinner, leaving it on the desk with a note indicating it was alright if some scavengers wanted to eat it, and then she went out into the hallway, armed only with her flashlights and a few pens.
There was no way she could fight like River, but Naminé had to have something.
She had half a mind to call out Kairi's name softly as she wandered the halls, but remembered what happened last time. She had attracted some... nasty visitors to say the least. The woman with the poker. Naminé had never seen her again, so it seemed safe to assume that one really could die at Landels.
Shuddering at that sobering thought, Naminé hurried along a little quicker than she intended.

"Oh!" She wasn't expecting anyone to be out here, but after what that one guy said… Alyssa looked at the girls in the hall, waving the pen wielding hand in meek greeting. "H-hello."
Maybe this communication thing would work out better than last night.

She had eaten her meal with gusto, still trying to go through all that she heard today. People from hundreds of years ago...a mind reader like River...it was a lot to swallow, but Kaylee didn't want to let it dampen her appetite. She could ask the Captain ab
Soon, the now familiar voice at the intercom and the click of doors being unlocked heralded the start of Nightshift, and she ventured out. Kaylee told herself that she wasn't going to go very far...just hang around while she waited for the Captain and Inara and everyone else.
And she didn't go very far. Standing only a few feet away were several girls...the oldest of whom looked about River's age.
"Hey there."

"Abilities? I know many people do, but here, they are all useless to us. So it doesn't really matter if you had powers or not before coming here," Naminé explained, hoping to ease some of Kiden's... concerns, maybe?
"My own powers are useless, at any rate."
Just then, two more girls approached. Naminé was just about to jump again before realizing that they were also human, and perhaps just as lost as they were.
"Oh, hello there!"

She turned her head to look at the two who had joined them. She had settled back a bit, cautious but not nearly as jumpy as Namine. However, they turned out to be people and not monsters.
"...hey," She offered.

'So you suggest putting bells on everyone? I don't think that'd go as smooth as you'd think, Alyssa.'
"So, um… Hi," she began, doing her best to ignore Bates' commentary.
'I could make a better introduction if I was in a room full of dead people. In fact, I have.'
It, uh… wasn't working so well. She visibly flinched, biting down the bad memories as though they were bile. "I'm Alyssa. Alyssa Hale." shutupbatesshutupshutupshutup

Walking out of the room, Elena spied a small knot of girls congregated out in the hallway. Moving towards them--she'd need to, to get to the hall way the lead to the main building (right?)--she spotted a small form with them and smiled.
Naminé.
"Hey cutie! What's up?" she called, waving. Pointing to Reno (who stood out like a sore thumb in this mass of teenage females), she introduced him. "Naminé, this is my friend, Reno. He's the one I was waiting for last night. Reno, this is Naminé. She's one of the first friends I made here."

In any other case, he wouldn't have minded pausing for a bit, but for some reason, he was anxious to get a move on. He still wasn't sure what it was, but the feeling had been with him since he'd spotted the note Rufus had left behind. It had gone dormant for a bit while in Elena's room. Now that they were back out here, though...
He glanced at the one Elena had pointed out. She looked even younger than Elena, fourteen at most. Damn. How young was the youngest?
He gave Naminé a slight nod in greeting before motioning to Elena that they should get a going if possible.

She wished the Captain would come soon.

"Elena!" She grinned, glad to see her friend was up and about. Her eyes strayed over the redhead, almost mistaking him for Axel with that fiery mane.
"Oh, I see. Hello, Reno," Naminé did a small bow in greeting. It seemed he wanted to go somewhere... well, she wasn't going to keep him waiting.

Elena was quick to notice Reno's eagerness to get going...and she had to admit that she didn't exactly want to hang around, either. Giving Naminé an apologetic smile, she waved and started to walk away. "Sorry, but we've gotta go--see you! Be safe!"

"'m Kiden." She offered, but couldn't help but sound a bit standoffish. Then she blinked as Elena and Reno seemed to be already heading away again. Odd.

Glad that Elena wasn't trying to hang around any longer than necessary, he followed her out of the block. He kept about half a step behind her to watch her back, his eyes skimming the pathway in front. Everything looked so far, so good.
So why didn't it feel that way?

Alyssa frowned, tucking her pens back into her pocket. She supposed she wouldn't need them right now.

... But what now? Naminé looked around the group of girls, as if expecting one of them to take charge or leave or something. She was very used to working alone... But at the same time, she couldn't just wait around for something to happen.
"Um, I guess we'll continue ahead too?" Naminé suggested, already starting to move ahead, although slowly in case anyone wanted to accompany her.

She chewed in the inside of her lip absently, and looked back at the other two girls. "...Here's for a good night, right?" She asked, half hopeful, half false cheer.
no subject
"Well," she started slowly, running her hand through her hair. This was all so freaky. "M-maybe we should stick together? I mean… If there are more of us, it's less likely for something to hurt us if we all work together… right?"
Hopefully this wasn't a dumb question. She wasn't so good at communication.

When the smallest girl suggested that they get a move on, she just shook her head.
"Sorry, xiao mei mei, but I'm waitin' for someone. If you want to go on ahead, I'll be fine right here."
no subject
Well, perhaps they were outside. Naminé didn't know. She just didn't want to remain in her room for the night, in case any unexpected visitors decided to drop by.
"A-Alright... Yes, it's safer to travel in groups. I... think," Naminé answered Alyssa's question, then frowned when she realized she wasn't being helpful. Was it wise for her to lead the group? She had lead Kairi in The World That Never Was, but that situation was entirely different.
Well, there was only way to go anyway.

"Kaylee," she called softly as she approached, flashlight and radio in hand. She hadn't found a suitable, makeshift weapon as of yet. "Mal hasn't arrived yet, has he?" The Companion tried to sound as level-headed and calm as she could. It was hard not to sound worried, but she'd been schooled for this.

"Wow, you scared me. No, the Captain ain't here yet...wonder what's keeping him." She peered at her Companion friend questioningly. "D'you think that we got the rooms messed up and we're supposed to meet him somewhere?"
