Nightshift 38: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[From here]

Ophelia carefully opened the door, listening and looking around in both directions for any signs of monster activity. When she was satisfied that there was none that she could detect, she swung the door open and hurried down toward the main hall where more of the moonlight could be seen faintly. Once she got there, she knew she was definitely going to have to keep her guard up, considering that the main hall had been where the big monster from the previous night had been.

Hanatarou had never been in this section of the building before, but really, it looked pretty much identical to the next hallway over. If he was remembering correctly the women's block was the first one here, like his block on the other side, so he headed for that door and hurried inside.

There were more people here, coming and going, including a man in old-fashioned clothes leaning against a wall in the dark. Maybe it was a convention hall where the power had gone. Juri had heard of such things even though she'd never been to one. She was too busy with school and modeling and fencing. There were more people in the shapeless gray outfits, which had a happy face on the front. Disgusted, Juri looked down at hers to find the same inane design. She'd rather have the wool coat and boots the man she passed wore.

One end of the hallway ended in a closed door. The other was open, so she headed toward the open area, still hoping that the way out would show itself in some obvious way. So far, she didn't have a good opinion of whatever this place was.

Almost there, he noted. Just one more turn into the next hallway and he would meet up with...whoever it was he was speaking to on the bulletin. He didn't really ask for an appearance, but most people in this area were in a rush to get away. Anyone who was standing still would probably be waiting to meet up with someone.

Nearly there.

Good. These dark, empty hallways were-- certainly not making him nervous, of course not, but having his wingmate back at his side and watching his back was something he would really appreciate.

TK found his way to the usual meeting spot, looking around. It was a relief to find Armand already there. At least he was where he was supposed to be tonight. He made sure not to sneak up on the other man, lowering his glowrod so that the light wouldn't get in Armand's eyes. "Hey," He said, unsure of what else he really could say. He didn't want to get Armand upset by asking a question he didn't want to answer, but with how the other man acted some times, he had no idea what a safe question might be.

Citan was only a moment behind, nodding to himself as he saw the two men. Well, that was promising!

"Good evening," he called, ambling over and smiling at both. Perhaps tonight would prove more productive, after all. Citan was certainly not one to dismiss potential good omens.

[OOC: Alec is still supposed to be coming, but Armand would like to warn Citan of that. Methinks TK knows.]

It was such a relief to see the two of them that Armand nearly hugged them both. True, he'd spoken to TK just this morning, but he'd had a rough afternoon. And now he felt like such a heel about so many things. "You both made it," he said happily. Something tight and worried in his chest unclenched.

"I'm still expecting Alec Trevelyan. He helped TK last night, and I need to speak with him. I hope that isn't any trouble to you, Dr. Uzuki." Armand knew he'd have to explain about last night, but he was dreading it. Mentioning it at all would like spur a flood of questions. Probably better now than after Alec's arrival.

"I wish last night could have gone differently. The doctors took me away and injected me with a kind of truth serum." That horror could be summed up that easily? Well, it could if you left out all the humiliating pleading and crying. "Please be sparing with the questions."

[identity profile] loyal-soldier.livejournal.com 2009-01-26 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
TK looked up, glad to see that Dr. Uzuki wasn't far behind. Well, that made things more tidy...

Well, as long as Tevelyan got here, at least. TK could sympathize with how the other man had acted last night. He'd probably have done the same, if he were in Imperial Intelligence or some other branch that dealt more with that kind of thing. But it hadn't exactly been conductive to getting everybody moving along, or morale in a certain portion of the group...

More people were out in the bigger hallways, but despite the comfort it may have given Donna, knowing that others were just as stuck as her, she didn't linger to ponder things. They had their on agendas and she had hers.

Now, which game should she play to chose her direction? Eeny-Meeny-Miny-Mo was seeming the most practical choice so Donna went with that and headed right towards the Main Hallway.

The next hall wasn't any more crowded than the last, but there was one thing Naoto noticed: the people all acted as if there was an objective in mind, places they knew they needed to go; there wasn't anyone wandering aimlessly, it seemed, and everyone minded their own business, disrupting no one who was associated with them.

Even more interesting.

Naoto looked down one end of this new hallway, then to the other end. There still weren't any giveaways to anything, so who knew which way would lead to what? "Any recommedations?" Naoto asked, idly stepping further through the doorway. "I don't think it will matter which way we choose first. We can always backtrack if necessary.

"You know, I think this might be the first time I'm in the women's section of Landel's," Jiraiya stated, sounding fairly surprised. "It's almost scary that it took me this long."

[identity profile] whirlingwinds.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Naruto grinned, somehow happy that something he did seemed important to someone else.

"And I don't call anyone else that, either!" He said, chuckling again, and keeping up with Jiraiya's pace.

He frowned, because he'd actually never realised Landel's was divided by gender, which now that he thought about it had made sense. He'd just not been able to pay details to little details like those that were insignificant to him.

"...I hadn't even noticed they were separate sections," Naruto admitted.

[identity profile] toadally4boobs.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
"You'd better not," Jiraiya stated with a smirk. "That's your nickname for me."

Although Naruto's comment about not seeing the gender separation made Jiraiya sigh a little, even if it was amused. "You know, you should check the maps sometime."

Speaking of which... Jiraiya pulled out the extra copy of the maps (http://community.livejournal.com/damned_bulletin/347960.html) he had made that dinner shift, specifically for Naruto, after talking with Sanae. "Here's your copy of them. Took me a while to copy them, so don't lose them."

"At any rate, we're almost there," Jiraiya stated with a smirk, handing the maps over before moving on--until he paused for a moment.

No, he wouldn't tell Naruto that she'd probably ask if he was all right now. That would burst Naruto's bubble almost immediately. Jiraiya would just have to help him deal with that question when it finally was asked.

Almost there!

There were a few people lingering around, but MOMO hurried on. Although she would've liked to have stopped and make sure no one needed any help, she had an assignment to work on tonight. She didn't want to keep Itachi or F waiting, since she really wasn't sure whether or not they were the type to wait around too long.

[identity profile] morphenominal.livejournal.com 2009-01-27 08:05 am (UTC)(link)

Hmm... Now here's where she needed to make a decision. Did she want to go left? Or did she want to go right? The Ranger tapped a finger against her chin, looking one way and then the other, then back again. What to do, what to do? Well! When all else failed...

"Eenie, meenie, miney, moe." It was probably a silly thing to do, but hey! At least she didn't have to wait long for an answer that way!

Grinning behind her mask, Kimberly did another quick sweep of the hall and then moved on.

"Ah, thanks, Ero-senning!" Naruto said, using the name on purpose. A map would be handy, and he wasn't terribly good with directions, so he appreciated it.

He followed Jiraiya, undeniably a little excited to meet Renamon properly.

Emmett paused when he walked through the open doorway into the next hallway. This one was exactly the same as the last. The voices and footsteps he heard were scattered again. There were more doorways to his right and left, but continuing forward seemed to lead to a larger hallway. Lots of voices were coming from that direction.

He waited for the kid to catch up and make a decision. "Which way?"

Citan raised his eyebrows at the news of what had happened. Truth serum? What in the world would these people want to interrogate Armand of all people for? The other news, that someone else was joining them, hardly even seemed to register.

"Are you alright?" he heard himself asking, though it was purely out of habit. And perhaps in poor taste, considering Armand had just asked him to be 'sparing' with the questions. Was that because he was still suffering some sort of stress disorder, or because... the serum was still in effect?

Interesting.

"Armand, if you would prefer to rest tonight, I daresay we'd all understand," he went on, his expression not betraying the curiosity that had sprung up within.

Utena could have sworn she caught sight of a flash of orange hair running away into the night, but it went away so quickly that she could only attribute it to an overactive imagination. She looked around at all the people in the hall, both those standing around and those who looked to be on the move. Everyone but them seemed to know what they were doing, where they were going. It was certainly a little frustrating being the odd ones out like this. If things kept going the way they were, Utena was decided that she was definitely going to interrupt somebody and ask just what the hell was happening.

"I have no idea. Both halls look mostly the same to me," Utena said worriedly, turning her light back and forth down the two directions before them. From where they were, she could make out a door in one direction and an intersection to another hall in the other direction. Neither one struck her as better to take than the other. "Maybe we should watch for a little bit and see which way more people are headed, then follow them," she suggested.
