damned_institute | Day 37: Intercom, Evening

"And I believe it's time to start wrapping up the day," was what the Head Doctor said after the intercom's initial jingle. "Now that everyone's all cleaned up, I think it's time for some... that's right, dinner!

"Tonight, we're serving some scrumptuous rotisserie herb chicken, seasoned with rosemary, lemon juice, and other delicious seasonings. On the side, we have cooked asparagus with bits of grilled onion, as well as small roasted potatoes with garlic and butter; for dessert, we'll be serving vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. Our normal assorted drinks and specialized diet alternatives are available.

"Some of you might find that you have new roommates since your old ones were fortunate enough to recover and leave us. Hopefully, you'll be able to see them again the next time we have visitors if you wish, but in the meantime please treat your new bunkmates kindly.

"I believe that's all for now. I hope you had a wonderful day and that you have a delicious dinner! ...Well, you'll definitely be having a delicious dinner, but there's nothing surprising about that, is there? Hahaha..."

With a seemingly good-natured chuckle, the Head Doctor turned off his mic.

Yukito nodded, without pausing in his steady decimation of his dinner. Even with Ken's addition it was still going altogether too fast. "There weren't any enemies in the Sun Room, though. I was under the impression that it's usually guarded?" If it had been, he rather doubted Yue would've made it into the library, though, so it was a fortunate chance.

He hesitated for a second there, tilting his head to one side a little as he tried to remember. "I think he saw some stairs behind the door, but it was hard to tell. Are there any unexplored areas on the second floor that you know of? Or maybe they go to the third..."

"Yeah, there's a few. Mostly behind doors with solid locks. How'd he get it open, d'ya know? And did the enemies appear after he opened it or before?"

Going through the Sun Room and into the library alone would be the trick. And kinda crazy, really. Reckless. But he'd done crazier. His luck would just have to hold out a little bit longer.

"I'm not entirely certain," Yukito admitted, looking slightly abashed. He'd only been halfway paying attention at that point himself, and Yue hadn't noticed any hidden catches or the like until after the door was open. "He was pulling books off the shelves when it opened, though, so that might be it."

He finished the last bite of food and looked almost mournfully at the empty plate for a moment before setting down his fork. It should tide him over until breakfast, at least, and then he could eat more. "I think they showed up around the same time the door opened. They weren't very big, but they had really sharp claws and teeth. Big yellow eyes, no arms." Yukito paused a moment, then twitched a slight smile. "And Yue wanted to make certain that I mention he only retreated because the person he was with was injured, not because he didn't think he could fight them off."

"Heh. Never dreamed of thinking otherwise." Ken made neat notes of what Yukito told him off to one side of his map, and put the finishing details on the one he'd promised Adam. "Thanks. I'm not gonna try and go anywhere else without backup, but I can at least check this out tonight."

Yukito nodded, with a cheerful smile. "Of course. If we share what we know, then it'll be more likely we can find a way out, right?" At least, a way out that didn't involve giving in and deciding the doctors were right, so he could go join "Tommy" and his sister. He'd already decided that wasn't an option.

"If I hadn't already promised someone to accompany him tonight I'd want to go look at it again, but we want to go back soon. Just be sure to be careful, okay?" He quirked a slight grin at Ken, remembering the argument the night before.
