Day 37: Intercom, Evening

"And I believe it's time to start wrapping up the day," was what the Head Doctor said after the intercom's initial jingle. "Now that everyone's all cleaned up, I think it's time for some... that's right, dinner!

"Tonight, we're serving some scrumptuous rotisserie herb chicken, seasoned with rosemary, lemon juice, and other delicious seasonings. On the side, we have cooked asparagus with bits of grilled onion, as well as small roasted potatoes with garlic and butter; for dessert, we'll be serving vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. Our normal assorted drinks and specialized diet alternatives are available.

"Some of you might find that you have new roommates since your old ones were fortunate enough to recover and leave us. Hopefully, you'll be able to see them again the next time we have visitors if you wish, but in the meantime please treat your new bunkmates kindly.

"I believe that's all for now. I hope you had a wonderful day and that you have a delicious dinner! ...Well, you'll definitely be having a delicious dinner, but there's nothing surprising about that, is there? Hahaha..."

With a seemingly good-natured chuckle, the Head Doctor turned off his mic.

Subaru was surprised to hear his room-mate speak to him--the man had been asleep or otherwise silent for most of a week now, as far as Subaru could remember. And here Subaru was, behaving poorly just when the other man was back in a talking mood. Sitting up quickly, Subaru smiled shakily. "A small wound, from a couple nights ago, but mostly I'm just tired. Are you feeling better?"

"Yeah, thanks," TK smiled just slightly, trying to remember to be polite. "My shoulder's healing up, and I'm pretty much over the blood loss..." His clavicle was only just healing. He didn't want to fracture it again, but there was no chance that he was just going to sit around and be useless again.

"That's good to hear." Subaru wondered, though, if letting his roomie sleep had been doing him a disservice after all--missing meals and not drinking enough fluids was not at all good for replenishing lost blood. Hindsight, inevitably clearer than immediate thoughts could ever be, was really depressing for Subaru today. Looking back at his week, all he saw were failures. But there was no sense burdening his roomie with any of that. "You have company tonight, if you're planning on going out, I hope."

TK nodded. "Two others at least. We'll just be going out to find weapons, so we won't be heading for anywhere really dangerous tonight." Never mind the fact that he still wanted to teach Armand a hell of a lot more about defending himself, but they would probably be alright tonight. At least they wouldn't be trying for the basement again...

Subaru was glad that his room-mate apparently had some good old common sense. Still, he couldn't help but worry. "Be careful nonetheless, there's danger everywhere if one's luck runs bad."
