Day 37: Intercom, Evening

"And I believe it's time to start wrapping up the day," was what the Head Doctor said after the intercom's initial jingle. "Now that everyone's all cleaned up, I think it's time for some... that's right, dinner!

"Tonight, we're serving some scrumptuous rotisserie herb chicken, seasoned with rosemary, lemon juice, and other delicious seasonings. On the side, we have cooked asparagus with bits of grilled onion, as well as small roasted potatoes with garlic and butter; for dessert, we'll be serving vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. Our normal assorted drinks and specialized diet alternatives are available.

"Some of you might find that you have new roommates since your old ones were fortunate enough to recover and leave us. Hopefully, you'll be able to see them again the next time we have visitors if you wish, but in the meantime please treat your new bunkmates kindly.

"I believe that's all for now. I hope you had a wonderful day and that you have a delicious dinner! ...Well, you'll definitely be having a delicious dinner, but there's nothing surprising about that, is there? Hahaha..."

With a seemingly good-natured chuckle, the Head Doctor turned off his mic.

"How... did the day go?" Tony asked. He was glad to see Kvothe was at least cheerful. It might make it easier. "I didn't see you around, so I assume they kept you busy too."

"It went okay. I spent most of it in the Sun Room, I wasn't really interested in going back to the Arts and Crafts room after last night." He made a face and scratched at the bandage on his arm. "I met a guy named Clark at lunch, he said something about finding a...phone? And using it to contact people outside. We're going to look for one tonight. I'd never heard of anything like that before."

"He didn't tell you what a phone was?" Tony knew what they were, though he considered them an uncommon luxury because he grew up in such a poor part of his city. "It's a little machine connected to wires that lets you talk to people who are somewhere else. I haven't noticed one around here, but I guess there has to be one somewhere. What do they do if the delivery truck--" Wait.

"Does this place get deliveries, I wonder. It has to. We eat tons, and I haven't seen a laundry room yet." Or smelled or heard one. Tony thought about that a moment. "I think that's a good idea. So you're going with this Clark?"

"Yeah, but it still sounds strange, we don't have them where I'm from. Or anything like that." He considerd Tony's question thoughtfully as he picked at his meal. "Well, neither of us has been here for a full span yet, maybe they do get deliveries but we haven't seen one yet? The same with the laundry." It was still odd, though. "Yeah, we're going to try to get into the offices, there might be one there."

"I can imagine, if you don't have them." He still found it hard to imagine there not being any phones at all, but Tony wasn't judgmental. "You could be right. I think tomorrow I'm going to ask around about that. I wonder if anyone has thought of it before."

He ate a bit more, thrilled at having good food. "I think that sounds like a good idea. I hope you'll feel like sharing what you find out. I told the guys in M35 that I'd go see them tonight, and see if I can help out there." It beat running around and getting attacked.

"Yeah, he said he had someone that he wanted to try to contact, so if we can find one we'll try it. I'll let you know what happens, if we can even find one." He hoped they'd find something at least, even if it wouldn't help contact anyone he knew. "Who's in M35?"

"Umm... well, they run a a first aid clinic, I suppose you'd call it. For people who get hurt at night." Tony knew this was a hospital of sorts, but so many people seemed to be getting seriously hurt when there weren't any staff around. "I thought I might be able to help."

"They run the clinic in their room? That's really good to know." He grinned. "I'd be able to help out there too, if you could let them know that." If he couldn't get out of here, he could at least put his Medica training to good use.

"I'll tell them," Tony agreed cheerfully. "They seemed to want people who knew something about medicine. I don't but I think I could still help." He pulled out the recorder. "This could still come in handy in a place like that. But yeah, if you get hurt, you could go there. We could've used that last night. Are you okay now?"

Re: M9

[identity profile] sir-savien.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, it was wrapped when I woke up. It itches a little but it should be fine. Let them know then that I do know a bit about medicine, I don't know what supplies they have but at the very least I can help out with bandaging and stitching."

He hesitated a bit before speaking. "I asked about the others. I was told everyone made it out okay. The monsters got killed." Tony hadn't liked that exchange on the board, but he didn't want to dwell on what was bad. "Maybe we can find some of them later to talk to."

He poked his asparagus. "I'll tell them you know something about all that then."

He nodded. "That's good" He still wondered what those creatures had been defending, but at least they both got out in one piece. "Great, thanks. At least if they want to find me they shouldn't have much trouble figuring out who I am." He smiled wryly and tugged at a lock of his unruly red hair.

"Yeah, we're a pair, aren't we?" Tony laughed. "Still, I don't think we're the only unlucky new guys here."

Re: M9

[identity profile] sir-savien.livejournal.com 2008-12-06 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, probably not." Kvothe laughed as well. "But at least now we have a better idea of what's out there, and we know where to go if things go wrong."

Re: M9

[identity profile] tony-castaway.livejournal.com 2008-12-07 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
"True." Tony threw an asparagus spear across at Kvothe, just threw it. It was nice to have someone to joke with. He'd never really had a friend before, just a sister.

Kvothe laughed and leaned forward to catch the flying vegetable. "Hey, that's not very nice, what did the asparagus ever do to?" He grinned and took a bite out of it. He missed his friends from the University, he was glad to have one here, too.

"It was more you I was thinking of," Tony said with a cheeky grin. "You snore." If Kvothe did, it would bother Tony, but he had no idea if he did since natural sleep wasn't something that seemed to happen much in the normal day at Landel's Institute.

"And how would you know that when I'm willing to bet that you black out at the end of every night, the same as I do?" He grinned back and ate more of his chicken.
