Day 36: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements.

"Good evening everyone, and I'm very pleased to see so many of you in such high spirits after meeting with your loved ones! However, like with all good things, it can't last forever, so I ask now for nurses to escort our patients in the waiting rooms and in the main areas back to their rooms, where they will be treated with a special Sunday... steak! That's right: today, we'll be serving juicy, delicious steak with fries and cooked vegetables on the side – simple enough for everyone to like and good enough for everyone to thoroughly enjoy! (Our patients with specialized diets will receive their alternate meals, of course.) Our usual beverages are available, and for dessert, we'll be serving warm slices of apple pie.

"After all, patients, t's always wonderful to see all of you cooperating with the staff even when given so much freedom, so I'd like to personally thank and congratulate all of you for helping us, your family, and more importantly, yourselves. Hopefully, we can help you to a speedy recovery so that you can see your loved ones more often, but first... dinner! I hope to speak with you all again soon."

The intercom clicked off.

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. Thank you!

On an added note, just wanted to clarify to players of characters who are canonly vegetarians and the like that you get to decide (within reasonable and realistic limits) what kind of diet your character gets from the staff. :3 ]

Sasuke arrived fairly late from the Courtyard, but Allen was even later, to his surprise. It had been some time since he'd managed to talk to the kid -- the past few nights, Sasuke had been sleeping -- and he'd hoped to get a status update and find out if Allen had learned anything.

Actually, now that he thought about it, he should probably also find out why Aidou had such poor impression of Allen. Aidou was picky when it came to his alliances, but Sasuke was relatively sure that the vampire was intelligent enough to not be completely capricious in a place like this.

Last shift had been troubling, to say the least. His game with the hobo-guy had been cut short and at the worst possible time too. Was he really Tyki? The guy with bottle lens glasses and stubble and greasy hair was really the same Tyki?

When he was taken back to the room though, he could smell the dinner and his stomach growled in anticipation. Sasuke was already up, which was a change. His dinners had been kind of quiet the last few nights. He smiled slightly, whether or not his roommate was able to notice, and gave a short greeting before he sat on the edge of his bed, the tray in his lap.

Sasuke glanced up and nodded briefly at Allen's greeting, not so much because of his usual terseness as because his mouth was full. Sometimes meals in Landel's got a little skimped in favour of conversation, much to Sasuke's irritation, so he'd gotten into the habit of eating as much as quickly as he could in order to make sure he ate enough. He was getting better at managing without his sight, too; it was easier to eat faster.

Although his and Allen's conversations did usually happen around the both of them eating, that was true. (If Sasuke were totally honest, he'd admit that it was more 'stuffing their faces.')

"Any progress over the past few nights?" He asked once enough of his dinner had been consumed. Starting with business as usual. Polite segues into conversation weren't really Sasuke's forte.

"The club seems to be making some, but I don't think I've done much," Allen frowned, trying to remember everything that'd happened. The last few nights consisted of him getting hassled by the Noahs and that strange guy in the courtyard. It only served as a reminder that Rukia was missing.

"It's frustrating," he sighed, taking the last bite of his steak and starting in on the chips. Where had they taken her? Or Ravi? Or any of them? He had no way of knowing if they were dead or just taken back home. It was not knowing that was the hardest part.

Seemed to be a common tale. "Same," Sasuke said, a bit of irritation in his own tone as he agreed with Allen's summary. He fully intended to get somewhere tonight, at least.

"Do you know of the information your club's gotten?" Sasuke didn't bother asking if Allen was willing to share; the boy would or wouldn't answer, that was all.

"Just what's on the boards-..." Allen said quickly without really thinking about it. Of course. Sasuke couldn't really see the boards. Oops. "U-um, that is... I think they're trying to solve a puzzle in the basement. But there was a note today that said going there is fatal."

He finished a few more fries. "That and it seems like people have been trying to get out and over the walls at night, but they still wake up here. I'm really not sure how."

Ah, right. Sai had mentioned the warning as well. Sasuke had his doubts about what 'fatal' exactly constituted here in the Institute (given its apparently advanced medical technology), and if Aidou could make it into the basement, he could.

"I've heard that people have tried to leave the grounds," Sasuke commented. "If there's something taking us back here, it probably has a fairly wide range."

A pause, and then just out of curiosity: "Did the note on the basement explain why it's fatal?"
