Nightshift 35: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[from here]

Left led outside, further down the hall at least. Callisto reminded herself absently of this as she went the opposite direction. In the future she might see what all the fuss was about, but not now. The announcements only made her current target all the more interesting.

Naomi reached the main hall between the men's and women's dorms before her flashlight started to flicker. She frowned, smacking it against her hand, trying to coax an unwavering beam from the weakening batteries. At least she was comfortable, in her black leather jacket zipped up just enough to be considered decent - though the style of jacket gave her far more cleavage than she'd prefer - and the slit skirt. She felt more prepared, more in the right mindset for wandering around these damned hallways.

Now if only her flashlight would cooperate....

As he turned down the next hall he came to, Matsuda was kind of underwhelmed to find it was another hall that seemed to be near patient blocks. He couldn't really help it much, he supposed, but at least he had found out something. It was probably something that Light and L would have already known, but he would probably need to figure out this place's layout on his own, just to make sure he'd remember where everything was. A map would be nice...

He did, however, notice a lady in the hall who seemed to be having trouble with her flashlight. Matsuda found himself drawing closer, and was kinda shocked to see just how she was dressed. She looked...well, kinda like a prostitute, but he had to admit she looked really good like that! Even if she did look even more like she didn't belong in this place, but she seemed to have an idea of what she was doing.

It was better than him, at any rate.

"Ah, hi..." Matsuda said quietly as he approached her, kinda glad that it was dark. He could feel the heat spreading over his face, and was sure he would have been bright red if it was daytime. But if she was having trouble, he couldn't really leave her to be monster bait! That just wasn't right. "Is something wrong with your flashlight?"

Once Claude entered this particular block of the building, he was forced to slow his pace down. As far as he could remember, he'd never really wandered around here before. Tongue sticking out of his mouth a little, he hastily shined his flashlight onto his maps. There was a huge blank space where he assumed M120 was. (Man, he really needed to get with the program and fill out the missing pieces, didn't he?) Hopefully it was there, because if it wasn't, he was going to have to ask for directions.

After tucking his maps away, Claude passed what he figured was the female block and continued going north.

If Sora hadn't already known that he was getting close to the female block, the woman who he spotted in the hallway would have given him a clue. She was dressed kind of strangely, though, wasn't she? Then again, a lot of people seemed to be getting their outfits back for some reason. He kind of wished the same thing would happen to him, though he also knew it wasn't too important.

The lady seemed to be having some trouble with her flashlight, and Sora frowned in worry, wishing he could do something to help. But he got the feeling his own batteries were going to die on him soon, so there wasn't much he could do about that. Hoping that she would be all right (she was still near the patient blocks, so she wasn't in too much danger), Sora stepped through the door into the female block.

Sheena stalked all the way out of the women's block without bothering to look back at Raine. How dare she do that?! As if she had one ounce of interest in that... that... philandering idiot!

...where was he anyways?

The reminder that she still hadn't seen him, caused her to slow down and worry to slip into her eyes. Aside from that, she still appeared angry.

Would you really? Raine wondered, silently. From what I remember, he's likely fine... but from what he remembers, he did die.

She caught up with Sheena but said nothing; she'd made her point. Maybe now the girl would stop asking.

She was almost into the main area now. And she hadn't yet seen monsters or other dangerous creatures. That was a good thing; a very good thing. Hanyuu had never been a very optimistic person, but maybe tonight would be different. Maybe she could get through it without running into anything that wanted to eat her.

...somehow, that seemed unlikely.

Even though dropping off the key wouldn't take more than a minute - less, if it turned out the Colonel wasn't even in his room - Anise supposed she should still visit Ion's room first. The Fon Master certainly wasn't an impatient person, but she had a feeling he would worry if she took too long to reach him. Besides, it was boring to wait for someone while being cooped up all alone in the dark. And maybe a little scary.

Finally, more signs of life. It wasn't that Xelloss was a terribly large fan of life in general, but it did have its uses, such as the fact that sometimes it came in the form of fellow patients with flashlights. Elle wasn't entirely sure what her plan was, beyond find Landel and have a chat with him. She felt like there should be logistics in there somewhere, but she'd never been a planner - Daddy had usually done that for her.

"It seems the other hallways are no longer popular for meetings, hm?" Okita said, peering into the darkness. There didn't seem to be anyone here, and it was relatively quiet compared to the other main hallway. How strange. Up until a day or so ago, most people had been gathering closer to the patient rooms. Had something happened in those halls to make them unsafe? He doubted it since he hadn't heard anything, but it still made him wonder.

From this hall, he had to go into the female blocks and then find F11. He didn't think it would be too hard and he didn't really want to keep Guy from his meeting either, so he paused by the female dorm door. "Where is it exactly that you're meeting your friend? I believe my destination is just through these doors."

"I guess not," Guy said with a small sigh, looking around. He also had to wonder if there was any reason for that, but he didn't want to get caught up thinking about it. Instead, he halted near Okita and glanced to the door that would take his roommate into the female block.

"M120 should be in the block straight ahead from here," he said, pointing in front of them toward the door up ahead. He could have opted to lead Okita all the way to F11, but his roommate had been moving along just fine, so he doubted he needed to worry about him any longer. Besides, the patient blocks were about the safest places around the institute, and the night was still early.

"So I guess we'll part ways here," he decided, sending Okita a smile again. "Feel better, all right? I hope that healer can help you out." He was sure there were countless other things weighing down on the other man right now, but one step at a time, right?

It wasn't until Atoli stepped out into this particular hall that she paused, looking around carefully and realizing... Where did she need to go, now? Last night, she went right, but if she went that way again would she find the right people there? What if they were elsewhere, like somewhere left? ... What if they weren't nearby at all?

Atoli knew it was getting riskier straying this far away from her room with no one to accompany her. Haseo would most likely get angry with her if he knew... After all, if her spells and scrolls weren't going to work, she could be in a whole lot more danger as opposed to someone with a class meant for fighting.

But she couldn't do nothing at all! Even if her class had been rendered near useless in this strange, bizarre area, if there was someway, somehow she could help, then she was going to find it. The days where everyone else did the work as she sat back, useless, were over.

Atoli figured she may as well take the more familiar route towards the right.

Armand scooted to the side and waited with his back pressed against the wall. It was the easiest way to avoid getting run into by his fellow inmates and still look for the approach of Citan and or Morrison. Seiya did flick the flashlight off again as they headed into the main corridors. Enough patients were around that she could see her own way easily enough, and Michiru was close enough behind not to lose track of her. The outline of Seiya's long black ponytail against the pale gray shirt had to be fairly unmistakable, anyhow, she thought.

It was hard to believe that they were actually working together, even if their terms weren't exactly friendly. Still, in a strange way, Seiya felt a sort of optimism rising as they headed down towards the main corridors. Up to this point, she'd been just trying to gather enough things to keep herself alive, much less make progress at getting out or helping others. Now she had a real mission, something more concrete than the semi-universal quest to leave Landel's. Better, it was a mission with a serious challenge in the form of her relationship with Sailor Neptune.

"There's a staircase right across the hall, we'll take that up. If there's nothing towards our right after we exit the staircase, that area is where I'd like to try first." Seiya informed Michiru quietly, only glancing back for a moment as she spoke. That should be near the center of the Institute, or at least as close as Seiya could get. Unfortunately, it tended to be a busy spot on the nights Seiya had wandered upstairs; hopefully tonight it would be less occupied.

[identity profile] tranquil-seas.livejournal.com 2008-10-04 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the obvious chance that had presented itself when Seiya turned her back, Michiru had no intention of sabotaging this truce that they had formed just yet. It was in her best interest to allow Seiya's assistance in finding Usagi, even if she didn't care for the other girl.

Following after Seiya, Michiru responded to the foreign senshi's plans with a quiet 'Mmm' to acknowledge that she had heard. This was purely business, and she had no intention of conversing with Seiya more than was needed. That, and the less she spoke, the more she could concentrate on her surroundings.

The lack of her henshin pen aside, Michiru wasn't left entirely numb to the pockets of energy that dotted the institute. She could still sense powers in close proximity, even further away if strong enough. She could sense one--no, maybe two such powers in front and to her left somewhere, but it was faint, so she said nothing of it. If they weren't heading in that direction, there was no point in alerting Seiya to the fact. As far as Michiru was concerned, the flow of information between them was strictly on a need-to-know basis.

If Elincia recalled correctly, this hall would lead her to the main halls. However, perhaps going the other way would yield better results than the night before. She hadn't seen anything that seemed out of the ordinary the night before, not even the monsters that supposedly roamed the halls.

Logic told her that if she had found nothing useful in one direction, then she should try the other one. With that in mind, she set off further down the hall, to the left.

Like last night, this stretch of hallway was a little livlier.

"It is kind of weird, though," Teisel thought aloud. "that we're both from different islands, and that we both ended up here at the same time." The unexpectedness of the whole thing was something that had been bothering Teisel since he'd first woken up here. He glanced down at the kid (well, at the top of the kid's head. He was pretty short, much like another teenager of Teisel's acquaintance that he liked a hell of a lot less.) "How did you end up here, anyway?"

"Well, I guess that could be true." He was used to traveling the whole world, but Forte supposed some humans would be stuck where they were. He hadn't actually met anyone claiming to be from Earth, so he couldn't really compare notes. "But it might just be different planets that were called Earth." Forte wasn't exactly a detective, so he just went along with whatever he'd been told.

Come to think of it, wasn't Terra one of the old robots from before his time? He was part of a series named after planets, and he was in charge of Earth, so it could just be another name for the same thing. And Teisel seemed to think every thing was an island, so he might have just been from an area with small islands, where they said "Terra" instead of "Earth." But then what about HK-47, and Sheena and her friends? It was too confusing, so Forte just gave up on the idea.

"I... don't have the best luck with keeping roommates. I'm concerned for Orihime, actually."

But Orihime was different, wasn't she? She already knew how the Institute worked and its ways, but so did Raven, and Raven still left in the end. Just the first of many to do so.

Matt needed to make his choices quickly. The path he had in mind seemed the less traveled by, but that didn't necessarily mean it would be safer. If anything, it could actually add to the danger.

Why was he even doing this again?

Of course, Elena had no clue what they were supposed to do once she found Reno and Rude. Their adventuring last night hadn't gone anywhere, and she was starting to get worried about their lack of results.

But no time to think on that just yet. For now she concentrated on the path in front of her.

This hall was... Well, exactly like the one he just left. Though... He was curious what the door on the other end of the North hall led to, but he would check it out on the way back.

Right now, he wanted to find the 'front doors' to this place. The chances they would be conveniently unlocked at night were low, yes, but he had missed out on observing the front rooms when he first arrived. Now would be a good time to catch up, and hey, for all he knew, there could be something important up there. Kaku continued on his way.
