Nightshift 34: West Wing, North Hallway 1-A

[From Here]

Passing through the open doorway, he flashed his light around to make certain that there was nothing potentially dangerous lurking in the hallway. It seemed clear as far as his eyes could tell, so he hurried on. Well, he hurried as much as an old man like himself with things to do would hurry. There was no point in running, as he would save such activities for if he was being chased.

He hoped that Yuuri would be alright making it to the Recreational Field by himself. The youth seemed good-hearted even if a little absentminded. The boy would be fine, he told himself.

Albel's red eyes glanced around for a possible treat as he opened the door, but the hallway was completely empty. Good, the last thing he needed was some rotting little maggot wasting his time.

He thought going via the Recreational Field would be shorter than taking the other route through the various boring hallways, so he headed into that direction.

It seemed that luck was on his side this evening as he stepped out into the hallway and found it pleasantly deserted. He didn’t stop, however, and continued on down the stretch of hall. The Star Dragon Sword wanted to go outside, but he’d simply have to wait until he’d met up with Kagura.

Instinct almost turned Armand the wrong way, back toward the interior of the Institute. He put a hand out to the wall, steadying himself, listening for voices or shouts. He kept his gaze lowered, mostly to avoid the oncoming lights of other inmates, though he wanted to see them if they approached. It looked empty for the moment.

He counted himself lucky. This time, he approached the door cautiously, worrying about what may lay beyond it.

Another completely deserted hallway, it seemed. There wasn't any reason to stick around, though, so he quickly headed towards the door leading outside into the Recreational Field.

Recluse entered the larger corridor, turning to head down towards the rest of the cell blocks. He wanted to make sure he gave Ghost Widow the weapons he'd made before anything else.

Manticore slowed as he entered the larger hall, more wary of danger further from the patient rooms. He headed left towards the door to the recreational field, continuing to travel without aid of light. He preferred it this way. It made him less of a target and he was used to working in minimal lighting.

Based off studying the maps on the bulletin board and his own observation of the courtyard earlier, the wall between the rec field and the courtyard would hopefully prove scaleable. Who knew what actually lay out in the rec field... or the courtyard, for that matter... if this Dr. Landel was going to post someone somewhere to make things more difficult, those would be good areas to do it.

Once again, Manticore knew his costume stood out like a sore thumb but he hoped nobody would stop him over it. He had enough problems already. At least it was dark.

Turning north, Cloud stalked up the hallway towards the door leading to the Recreational Field. He did not bother with his flashlight just yet, having been used to walking in the dim light. His eyes also helped to illuminate part of his way, a beneficial side-effect in a place like this.

Slipping through the door, Wally found himself in... a bigger hallway. "Wonderful," he commented to no one in particular. "How many of these things were there again?" If memory served, he had about two more before the doors leading to the Sun Room and, opposite that, the Entry Room. He hadn't been there before, but he was pretty sure that that would be where the front doors were. The name was a bit of a clue.

There didn't seem to be any other people around, and Wally was quite frankly sick of this place. The sooner he was out of here, the better. He glanced around once more to ensure that no one was watching him. Perfect. He grinned and relaxed his hold on his powers, enjoying the feel of the world slowing around him as his heartbeat accelerated. While keeping a secret identity was great for the freedom it allowed him, having to keep his abilities under wraps was frustrating at best. If he'd had to keep it under control any longer, he'd probably end up going nuts, which would be way too ironic, considering his current location.

Enough waiting, he needed to run. He took off, feeling his connection to the Speed Force spark into life. But there was something different about it this time. It felt... distant somehow. Like he was having to work twice as hard and getting a lot less of his speed. He ran faster, pushing himself as hard as possible as he tore through the hallways, narrowly avoiding several patients along the way. Try as he might, he couldn't seem to reach the speeds he was accustomed to and he had to hope that no one recognised him while he was running. He'd been relying heavily on the fact that he would be moving too fast to be seen, but it seemed like that wasn't an option any more.

Getting out of here couldn't happen soon enough, even with superspeed.

The route was not yet familiar; he and Souji had been in the same nighttime group of fighters so rarely since coming here, and they'd met at another's room on the few occasions they had. Hijikata was a little shaken to realize that he'd never been this way before. Too focused on duty, perhaps. Or just too constrained, during the day. Time at night flew so quickly...

His thoughts didn't keep him from scanning the hallway, finding it again safe and empty, except for other patients. No battles here.

Kenshin paused in the hallway. The field was just up this way, right? He'd never been this way during the night, but it wasn't so changed from how it was during the day that he couldn't find his way around.

Still, it was best to check. "This way, right?"

[identity profile] damnrudecock.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah." Like Kenshin, Sano had never been that way at night. Hell, he'd never even been outside at night. But even with his fucked up sense of direction, he knew which doors to go through.

Though if going the wrong way meant he could run into a familiar face like Anji? Sano would be sorely tempted.

He didn't hesitate though, going quickly through the doors that led outside.

Artemis forged ahead up into the connecting hallway. "I think it would be best to approach the wall from the Recreational Field. No doubt each access point to the wall is guarded, now that Landel has taken down the barrier that previously prevented us from exiting. The best way would be to move as quickly as possible to the first available access point."

He turned around, "Any objections, sir? Hanatarou-san?"

[identity profile] mitase.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
The captain having a low opinion of him wasn't entirely unexpected, and had he been asked Hanatarou would've readily agreed with it anyway. "Um. Y-yes, I can." He wondered for a moment if he should mention the nosebleed using his powers had caused earlier, even as he nodded in answer to the question. Were there monsters that looked like people, then? That wasn't a pleasant thought.

Artemis Fowl, however, whoever or whatever he was, seemed to be much friendlier than Hitsugaya-taichou. He was even nice enough to try to give some encouragement, as though he didn't think Hanatarou was completely useless. It was kind of him, and the healer managed a weak smile in return.

Any question of where to go, though, he left to the others. He was far too new and confused to really understand more than 'follow where we're going and try to keep up.'

"Your friend's map isn't very good. There are more detailed maps available. Is he new here as well?" Vlad carried on conversation lightly, although he walked beside Tanaka with the light in front of them both. "Incidentally, my name is Vlad, Vlad Masters."

[identity profile] violent-varmint.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
"Tanaka," the Shofixti responded. "And the Captain has been here at least one day longer than I, although I don't know anything more specific." The fact that he didn't have this "more detailed" map despite the extra time troubled Tanaka a bit, but he brushed it off, figuring that Zelnick either hadn't had time or hadn't met the people responsible yet.

This last part actually gave Tanaka an idea. Cocking his head, he looked at his companion and asked, "Actually, Mr. Masters, how would one go about getting copies of these 'more detailed maps'? It would certainly be useful to keep me from having to go begging for directions again," he added with a chuckle.

Kaiji hardly even gave this hall a glance as he passed through it - the hall that he was bound for was at most a few feet away from where he entered. While he hardly inspected the hall, he did start to slow his pace: not to delay his meeting with Sora, but to attempt to at least outwardly calm himself.

One step at a time, he and Sora could get through this, they were going to beat that son of a bitch at his own goddamn- Right, calm.

When the Doctor passed through the door and into another hall, he had to admit that he really wasn't sure which way to go. Either direction looked about the same, and he didn't know which direction the TARDIS was more likely to be in...

He paused in the doorway before making a turn to the left. The nurse had brought him from the other direction when escorting him back from the Sun Room, so he figured that he might as well head in a direction he hadn't been before. He could explore the right side later, if he didn't find the TARDIS on the left.

The Doctor headed down the hall, going through the door at the end.

“Eh? There’s more to learn?” Yuuri whined as he reached up to lock his hands behind his head. Dangling the baseball bat down the length of his back, the young Maou sighed as he muttered. “I think we should definitely focus more on the ‘getting out of here’ aspect.”

He didn’t like the prospect of having to study here as well. Was that just his fate? To travel to other worlds just to study. Sighing, Yuuri shook his head at his thoughts. That was just his luck.

[identity profile] arrogantflame.livejournal.com 2008-08-15 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Wolfram could tell by Yuuri's reactions that he still didn't really get it. At least not in the sense of knowing that escape was easier said than done, and that "learning" was more survival than anything else. He'd learned a lot last night in that kitchen. Knowing how lucky he'd been and how much worse things could have been, he would never try and go up against that alien thing ever again if he had any say in the matter. If nothing else, he owed Aidou for that much, whether he admitted it or not.

"It will take a lot of work," he explained quietly, "but we'll figure something out." He shifted his attention to the doorway just ahead of them. "For now, I suggest being extra careful once we get outside. I've never been out here in the dark, but I've heard that it's just as bad as inside. We don't want to attract any unwanted attention."

Tokito frowned, really wishing now that he'd paid more attention to the layout of this place. This hallway was a little bigger than the previous one, but otherwise looked pretty much the same. It would be easy to get lost.

The beam of his flashlight didn't reach the far end of the hallway, so Tokito had no idea what lay in that direction, but at the end nearest the door they'd come out of was... another door. Tokito sighed, looking back at Jamie. "Go through this one? Or see what's at the other end of the hall?"

Jamie chewed his lip. "...this one, I guess. We can always double back if we need to." Reaching out with the Force, Qui-Gon could feel the distant presences of those who'd been taken. Or, rather, their lack of presence, for he could only feel a curious, unsettling void in the Force where a life should be. Qui-Gon still couldn't sense Obi-Wan, but there was nothing in the training bond to tell him if his friend was in danger.

There was, however, someone else. Qui-Gon could barely sense them, feeling the barest of minute vibrations. But there it was: someone who, somehow, seemed to be harnessed into the Force and was in pain. They would need help.

When the door had swung shut behind them, Rose ground immediately to a halt. She was bursting with questions, not the least of which was where the hell they were, but much more important was the simple fact that the Doctor was standing next to her. Completely alive, and even the same regeneration. Donna had been right.

Everything had become very hectic as soon as he'd shown up, without much time for her to process things and hardly any light to see by. But it never occurred to her that it might be some other bloke with a complex about saving girls in distress. She knew what the Doctor's hand felt like in hers, and she knew exactly what the word 'run' sounded like in his voice. It was him.

She grinned up at him, because she couldn't hide how thrilled she was to see him again, and threw her arms around his shoulders.

The short time it had taken to run indoors was all it took to convince the Doctor that the girl really was Rose. There was no doubt about it; Rose Tyler, the girl that he'd thought he'd never see again, was now standing before him, here, in this "Landel's Institute."

"Rose Tyler," he said, grinning at her. "It's good to see you."

The Doctor wrapped his arms around her, returning her hug. He had questions: about how she had gotten here; about whether or not she'd crossed over from Pete's world; about when exactly she was from in their timeline together. But all those questions could wait for a while. What was most important right now was that she was here.
