Nightshift 34: Main Hallway, 1-West
[from here]
The shinigami padded silently down the hallway, keeping to the left-side wall and her hand upon her sword's hilt. Her eyes scanned the area surorunding her as she continued on to the next hallway, especially the nurses' stations as she neared them. This would be a horrible time for her to get attacked by a nurse or two. Thankfully, the halls were empty, btu she didn't drop her guard. She knew better.
Almost there.

It was far more nerve wracking to be traveling alone. At least when he was with Naomi, L could rely on her being there if something happened. Now ideas of a possible attack from a monster were creeping into his thoughts and increasing his anxiety. What if he couldn’t handle it? What if he got injured? What if something happened to him? What if he died ? Come morning there would be no trace of him left. He’d disappear. No body, no evidence, no… He frowned. Hopefully, Naomi will be alright.
L paused once he reached the main hallway. So far so good.

As he'd suspected, there were constantly people coming and going from the main hallway. That didn't make it much easier to pick out anyone familiar, as everyone was on the move. Luckily, he still found it easy to see at night due to his former nocturnal lifestyle.
There were a couple people milling around, and one he recognized as the odd man he'd spent a meal with not too long ago. He looked confused, or possibly upset about something. It was hard to tell with that face. Perhaps he was just lost in thought.
In any case, Brooklyn wondered if he couldn't make himself helpful. He made his way towards the man. If he wasn't needed he supposed he could move along and look for someone else.

“Hello, Brooklyn.” He said as ran his thumb against the edge of his lip in thought. From their last meeting, L was sure that Brooklyn was hiding something from him, but that didn’t mean that he didn’t find him untrustworthy. And If Brooklyn was comfortable traveling during the nightshift L could ask him to come along for safety’s sake… That is if he wasn’t already approaching L for another reason. “Do you often travel alone at night?”
no subject
"Yes, actually," came Brooklyn's honest answer. "I guess I'm just bad at making plans ahead of time. I've been lucky enough to run into others on most occasions, though."
He shrugged and came to a stop next to the gargoyle-esque man. "You looked a little lost, but I could be wrong."

“It is not a matter of being lost, but a matter of traveling alone. I am not very familiar with fighting.” He answered as he scratched the back of his neck.

He started to say he wasn't used to fighting in the form he was either, but that would definitely bring up more questions. He didn't know why he felt he needed to keep that a secret. It wasn't as if others didn't already know. it just made things more awkward.
"Well I'm armed," he said instead, pulling out the strange blades Skuld had made him. "I can do my best."

L studied the blades the man was carrying and allowed himself to visibly relax a little. If Brooklyn was any threat to L or had felt that he was untrustworthy, he would have not shown them to him. And the fact that he was carrying them meant that he knew how to use them. “I am sure you will.” L said turning towards the rest of the main hall, “This way.”
no subject
Then again, that seemed to be genuinely how the man acted all the time - that bland attitude and speaking as though everything he said was a given. Frowning, the gargoyle decided to do as asked. "Right... And where are we going, exactly?"
no subject
L couldn’t help but internally curse when Brooklyn had decided to ask where they were going. The question was a fair enough though, and the man couldn’t be faulted for wanting to know. It was just the fact that L had once again gotten in too much of a hurry and forgot an important detail.
“The doctor’s offices.” L answered as he began to walk in that direction. “Have you had any prior experience with them?”
no subject
Not that he'd know where to look for anything specific, but he figured he'd ask so he could keep his eyes open.

He supposed it was just the way he said it that weirded him out. Now that he thought about it more, why not look through the doctor's offices? Then again, anything of any importance probably wasn't in a place so easily reachable. "I guess I'll come along if you need someone to watch your back, then."

"All right," he said with more confidence. "Follow me."
