Nightshift 33: Greenhouse Yard

[from here]

With the door shut and Toph safe for the moment, Renamon allowed herself to think again. Her body would be feeling the pain soon, as soon as she calmed down, and she needed to search the outside before it set in. She didn't see anything, but she was learning that meant nothing. And then she realized she didn't need her flashlight.

Renamon stepped further out into the night. She was instantly more relaxed. Outside in the night? She was in her natural element. She wasn't confined in a dark place with walls that felt like death. She was outside, at night, when she was the most powerful. Well, when she was a Digimon.

At that second the pain decided to set in, and she breathed in sharply. That was it. She wouldn't wear the sweatshirt anymore, not if it got caught on things and got her hurt like this. She gently peeled it off, then examined what she could of her wound. It was long and diagonal, nearly the length of her upper arm, and seemed deep. She couldn't see the bone, but it was bleeding freely. An inch, maybe. She wasn't good at determining things like this. She balled up the sweatshirt and held it to the wound tightly.

Once all that was completed, then she looked around more thoroughly.

"Tyki, Allen's as innocent as they come~" Rhode cooed playfully, but she clearly was only doing so in teasing. She knew that Allen Walker was kind and all, but innocent? No one was innocent! Well except for her, but some would gladly argue that.

Rhode knew she was a perfect little angel though. The Earl told her so! Though he did say she shouldn't be so boyish. Whatever.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
He still wasn't completely used to using his new arm, but it was probably dark enough out to cover any mistakes he might make. Besides, by now cheating was practically second nature.

"Five card draw?" he asked with a wide-eyed, boyish smile. Allen seated himself quickly and began dealing the cards. He'd already managed to sneak a couple of good ones into his hand just by shuffling the deck carefully.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fine." Tyki took a seat across Allen, waiting until the boy had finished dealing the cards. Which poker game they'd play didn't really matter; he had played various.

One might think it'd be weird to have a card game in the middle of a monster-infested hospital, but the Noah didn't really care. He was too occupied to figure out a way to not end up stripped down to his boxers.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Rhode went down along with Allen still fine with letting him decide her course for the evening. She might have been rooting for Tyki to win and strip Allen down to his underwear, but that didn't mean she couldn't still cling to Allen Walker while they played. If nothing else, she could learn better how to play cards being on the opposite side of her "uncle". That or help him cheat. It wouldn't be too hard to see the cards Allen had over his shoulder.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)
It didn't take long. Few of his opponents lasted. Tyki was decent, Allen had to give him that, but it didn't change the fact that Allen was still fully clothed, while the Noah sat across from him in nothing but his knickers. It'd been difficult with Rhode hovering over him, but since she didn't know how to play, she couldn't know that he'd been cheating, right?

"Looks like I win," he said as he gathered up the cards once more. "Unless you wanted to keep going. There's no shame in admitting defeat." Though he said the words sweetly, it was hard to miss the dark aura that seemed to have gathered around him. After all the Noah had done to him, he felt perfectly justified in taking the man for everything he had!

"Argh, damn it!!" Another curse, one of the many. Tyki Mikk was obviously not amused.

The situation had gone from bad to worse in a matter of moments. It all started with his left slipper, and it ended with having no choice but to hand over his pants. It wasn't actually about the clothes - he didn't like them anyway - but his life dignity had been at stake.

Dignity that had been shattered to pieces. Because he had been forced to be stripped down to his underwear by a 15 year old boy who was probably still a virgin. And even better, it was the already the second time it had happened.

So Tyki couldn't help but wonder; was that boy really 15?

He had half the mind to blame his defeat on 'something being wrong with the cards', but that would make him seem like a sore loser. There wasn't even a need to admit his defeat. Him sitting in his boxers was enough proof of that. And in front of Rhode, too. He wished he could sink right through the floor out of embarrassment - both literally and figuratively. He'd probably never hear the end of this...

And it was also cold as hell. Why had they gone outside again?

"No, we're done." he answered, feeling the need to go and sulk somewhere. Like he was going to continue. Being in his boxers was bad enough. No need to get stripped down even further than that...

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 10:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Heeeeeeeeeee," Rhode didn't know why, but seeing Allen win was somehow more amusing than her initial desire to see him in his underwear. The game was still a mystery to her in certain areas, but she knew enough to tell that Allen was absolutely vicious at it! Like he was evil at it! It made her like him all the more.

"No, don't stop, this is fun!" she exclaimed, demanding they do it again. She wasn't thinking that in order to play it right once more, Allen would have to return Tyki's clothes first, but those were just minor details.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Allen tucked the cards away, innocent smile never leaving his face. "No, that's alright, if Mister Tyki says he's finished, then we can't really continue."

Though he felt guilty about leaving Rinali and Rukia behind, this little triumph was more than enough to bring up his spirits. Even if he couldn't defeat the the Noahs in combat, this victory was certainly sweet.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-28 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyki didn't really intend to make this even worse by also losing his underwear, so Rhode could forget about her demands. Not that said demands were exactly helping him out or anything. Not at all!

He shot a sore expression at the pair before rising to his feet with as much dignity he could possibly muster in his current situation.

At least Sheryl wasn't here to see him in his half-naked glory...

Eyes had been watching from the shadows for quite some time, and finally, curiosity and hunger won over wary instinct at being outnumbered. The huge creature moved out of the shadow of the side of the building on all fours, a bushy tail twitching over it's back as dark eyes glinted.

The squirrel hesitated for just a moment, watching them, judging its chances, then darted straight at the small group, moving with astonishing speed for its enormous form and some 200+ pounds of bulk.

"No, you have to play, I said so!" Rhode pointed a finger up at Tyki, not at all put off by the amount of skin he had showing, "Sit down Tyki!" she ordered, pouting firmly. He wasn't going to spoil her fun now! He still had something to lose!

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Tyki's glare did nothing to dull Allen's favorable mood, but he did dust himself off as he stood. He'd no real use for Tyki's slippers, shirt, or trousers, so he left them where they were. He did hope the next game they played was half as fun as this one had been.

However, when he caught sight of something large moving toward them, it seemed the games would have to be put on hold. "W-w-w-what is that?!" Allen sputtered as the giant furry creature moved toward them.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm out of clothing." Tyki pointed out. He technically wasn't, but there was no way he was going to strip down any further than this. His ego was already bruised enough as it was.

And then their game was interrupted by a large, furry creature moving into their direction. And it was moving fast.

He wasn't sure if luck was finally on his side, but Tyki couldn't help but to be relieved for the interruption.

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
The squirrel headed for the largest of the three humans, instinct telling it that this one would probably be the largest threat. An angry, rattling chitter came from its throat as it darted towards Tyki, although beady eyes kept a close watch on the smaller two. It moved on all four feet, covering ground quickly until it got close to Tyki, when it dropped into a second-long crouch and lunged at the human, mouth wide and teeth bared.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 01:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"No you're no--" Before Rhode could finish, Allen Walker started panicking. Cute as that was, he was probably doing so with reason. She looked to where his attention had gone and saw the furry thing coming at them. Another thought of it being cute came to her, but that was quickly put down when it went after her family. "Hey!" she shouted angrily at it. What was it with things and going after Tyki tonight?!

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-29 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Were they really being attacked by an enormous squirrel? Just the thought was baffling, but Allen was quick to react. Even if they were Noahs, they were still humans, so... so he couldn't just let them get killed, right?

"Get inside!" he shouted at Rhode, who was still clinging to his neck like her life depended on it. She wasn't exactly making it easy for him to help them out! Frowning, he began to activate his Innocence, sending green sparks of light around his shoulder.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
So they were attacked by a giant....squirrel?

Not that there was much time for Tyki to stand around watching it, because it was going after him. Like Rhode, he really had to wonder why everything went after him tonight.

He dodged to the side as it lunged itself towards him, keeping his eyes on the furry thing as he drew his knife.

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 11:58 am (UTC)(link)
The intended target dodged, and the squirrel gave another angry, rattling chitter as it landed. It swerved to the right this time, taking another leap, it's movements surprisingly agile for a creature of it's bulk. It headed straight for Allen and Rhode this time, drawn by the light and voices, and there was much less distance to cover now that it had landed among them.

It wouldn't be dodged so easily this time as two hundred pounds of fur and teeth made a quick lunge at the smaller two humans.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 03:23 pm (UTC)(link)
That it missed Tyki was a relief. That it decided to come after her and Allen instead was not!

Normally she wouldn't have flinched at something like a giant squirrel - the Earl's Akuma could look like so much weirder sometimes - but here she'd already had the traumas from the ghost woman and the giant bird things. Now there was a giant squirrel coming at them full force. Rhode shuddered slightly, unable to respond to Allen's demand that she try to flee. Instead her hold on his tightened despite the Innocence activation at the left.

Allen was a goody-goody, as kind as they came. For that, she surprisingly felt safer being with him and in harm's way than she did without and moving away from the threat. She was not letting go.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Allen might be smaller, but that didn't mean he ought to be underestimated. He finished invoking his Innocence and a large glowing claw replaced his left arm. It had been enough to tear holes in buses and doors, it would certainly be enough to stop one squirrel, even if it was a gigantic one.

He swung his giant arm at the creature, intending to swipe it aside and, with any luck, into the nearest wall.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Tyki intended to go and attack the squirrel, but after seeing the boy invoke his Innocence he halted his actions and let him fix it. It wouldn't do to get swiped into the nearest wall along with the furry creature. He still didn't let his guard down, though. Not until it was dead at his feet.

So Allen could still invoke, huh? That was something worth remembering.

[identity profile] damned-monsters.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
As agile as an acrobat from having lived its life bouncing from branch to branch high above the ground, the squirrel was used to being able to dodge and change course at a second's notice. It turned into the blow, moving with it, back feet digging into the ground to brace it as it grasped Allen's wrist as it would a backlashing branch. A shift of its weight and it attempted to drag the smaller boy close, hopefully off balance, its tail twitching irritably behind it.

[identity profile] sugarsweetblood.livejournal.com 2008-07-30 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Rhode clung tighter when Allen and the squirrel began fighting each other. She was pretty light, so it wasn't hard to keep her hold however jarring things got.

When the squirrel tried to drag Allen to the ground, she made a face at it and aimed a Mary Jane at it's head. "Get off him!" she ordered.

[identity profile] broken-exorcist.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Even if it wasn't an Akuma, Allen tried to focus on the fight in front of him. At least it wasn't anything human. He didn't think he'd have the heart to fight. The squirrel was a lot smarter than he'd thought though, or faster at the very least. But when the squirrel grasped on, the Innocence crackled with life and burned the creature's skin and whatever else might be touching the weapon. Good thing Rhode was clear of his arm or she'd have a difficult time regenerating from his attack.

Though Allen could usually lift hundreds of pounds easily using his Innocence, he himself was only a little over a hundred pounds. He was pulled forward, though he tried to drag his feet on the ground, but it wasn't enough to upend his balance. His long, hooked fingers, each one now several feet long, curled around the squirrel's body and he squeezed, burning and crushing the rodent at the same time.

[identity profile] tyki-pon.livejournal.com 2008-07-31 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
Tyki still remained clear from the boy's Innocence. There was no sense in jumping in just yet when he'd only get in the way.

That fur-ball was much faster than it looked. Not that it helped much now that the boy decided to squeeze it.
