damned_institute | Day 32: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on and the Head Doctor spoke with his usual fervor.

"Good evening, patients and staff! I am pleased to announce that the arrival of nearly all of our new patients will conclude this shift. In addition, we have a very delicious dinner in store for you: carved Turkey with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed, seasoned vegetables. For drinks, we have our usual assortment available, and as a dessert included with your dinner, we will be serving a slice of warm apple pie with each meal.

"I trust that those of you enjoying the company of new roommates will give them a warm Landel's welcome, and I also hope that those of you who participated in therapy today were able to find a productive time with their doctors.

"That's all for now! Enjoy dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again.

Writing in a cramped short-hand, Renamon was fully startled to see another patient come in the room. She had woke up alone, after all and had been in the room by herself. Even seeing the second bed hadn't really made her think that another would be roomed with her. It was somewhat of a good thing that she didn't plan to be in her room very long tonight. She wasn't sure how she would do in such close proximity to another person that wasn't Rika.

Last shift had taught her not to assume another was familiar with the situation. She looked up from her notes. "Hello. I am Renamon. Have you been here long?"

"I'm Eileen, it's nice to meet you." She kept smiling, though it was almost hesitant. "Um, no, I just...woke up here a few hours ago. I'm still a little confused, actually...."

How long had Renamon - that was an interesting name, Eileen noted, almost exotic - been here? Well, either way, it was almost nighttime. If anything was going to happen, it would happen.

Ah. Well that explained that. She shifted on the bed to face Eileen more. "I've been here since lunch time. I've compiled some information in the time I've been here though." Yukari, who had been here three days, said that Renamon almost had more information than her. "So if there's anything you need clarified, I will try to help you with what I have."

"Oh, so you're new, too?" There were a lot of new people, from what Eileen had heard. She perched on the edge of her bed, hands folded in her lap. "I'm just... well, waiting, I guess. Until nighttime. Um. Have you heard about what people say happens at night?"

Monsters and darkness and things like that. Even if there was some truth to that, Eileen decided it couldn't be as bad as... that other place. The nightmare place.

Eileen seemed like she wasn't quite sure about the details. Renamon was hesitant to inform another about what awaited them, but after Toboe's reaction she had more faith in humans' coping skills. Then again, Toboe wasn't really human. Hm.

"Nighttime is when we're let out of our cages to roam and explore what mysteries this place gives us. Unless the monsters and brain-washed patients with reinstated power placed in our path deter us. We're advised to collect our false name and room number for reference, and not to explore by ourselves for safety's sake."

Renamon waited for her new roommate's response.
