Day 32: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on and the Head Doctor spoke with his usual fervor.

"Good evening, patients and staff! I am pleased to announce that the arrival of nearly all of our new patients will conclude this shift. In addition, we have a very delicious dinner in store for you: carved Turkey with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed, seasoned vegetables. For drinks, we have our usual assortment available, and as a dessert included with your dinner, we will be serving a slice of warm apple pie with each meal.

"I trust that those of you enjoying the company of new roommates will give them a warm Landel's welcome, and I also hope that those of you who participated in therapy today were able to find a productive time with their doctors.

"That's all for now! Enjoy dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again.

[ Please respond to this post with all dinner shift threads between roommate, putting your character's respective room in the subject line. While we have none scheduled for this shift at this time: all introduction posts for this shift's group of new characters should be made in response to this post; the introduction may then continue on to be a regular roommate thread. ]

He was a little annoyed to be taken away from his conversation with Edgeworth by the nurse who came to get him. He'd been enjoying it, and enjoyable conversations for the sake of conversation had been few and far between in the last few months. He didn't even think that she noticed Hallelujah's sharper voice from the way she prattled on.

The room he was taken to was a different one to the one he'd woken up in, but the nurse guided him inside like we need the bitch's help and set out a tray on the little desk at one side of the room. "Now dear, your roommate will be here soon so try and make friends with him, alright."

He nodded, smiling politely at the women we should just kill her before going to pick up the tray and sit on the bed with it. This felt far too much like his cell on the Ptolemaios, the padded room where all he could do was sit and think and argue with his other self.

And so, twice in one day, Logan had gone from feeling even smaller than he already was, to being once again confident and reassured. Things weren't as bad as he'd led himself to believe, and he had just as much of a fighting chance as he'd ever had in this place, especially with good people on his side. The trip back to his room was swift and uneventful, and he actually took the time to thank his nurse for the evening meal, rather than simply ignore her as he usaully did.

The grizzled Canadian mutant wasted no time in ploughing through his meal as he awaited the arrival of his roommate. They had a lot to discuss, after all.

Ah, and as always, the nurses arrived to seperate her from a rather good conversation. How irritating. She was starting to think that they did it on purpose! Admittedly they probably did to try and keep them from forming alliances, but it didn't seem to be working so far considering the number of groups which had come together. Ah well, her conversation with Lia had given her something to think about at least.

She entered her room and went to curl up on her bed with the tray, taking a good look at the food before trying it. Tasted good enough to her, even if she was a little disappointed not to have the same as last night. Familiar was good sometimes, even if she enjoyed the change. She had to wonder if her elusive roommate would be awake tonight.

Well, that had been an interesting conversation, Kenren had to admit. So that was Rhode's relative, whatever brand of relative they wished to call it. He seemed like an interesting guy. Kenren might have to meet with him again sometime. At least the kid had someone there to keep her out of trouble (maybe, he wasn't sure if Tyki was gonna' be any better than Rhode at staying unsedated). It would be something to see at least.

He entered his room, making charming small talk with the nurse to make her blush, before he went to sprawl on his bed for a while. He'd eat in a bit, and at least he'd slept for some of last night, he'd just wait for his roommate to arrive first.

His food was getting cold but he didn't care.

Clark Kent sat cross-legged on his bed, ignoring the cooling dinner and dessert laid out on his desk altogether as he stared down at the closed folder in his hands. With everything that'd happened today - like Claire, like finding out that she didn't remember him or Landels at all - he'd almost forgotten his own personal little mission. But now that he had "his" personal file in his hands after all the trouble of breaking the locks on Dr. Burroughs' file cabinets, Clark found himself suddenly unable to just do the easy thing and open it.

It's all fake. None of it was real. He couldn't explain Lex's behavior, but Clark believed in his memories. You don't have real proof it's you.

Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, the farmboy went for it. He opened the file. It looked pretty official, complete with a picture of him that he certainly didn't remember having taken. The guy in the picture looked like him alright; a tall kid with dark brown hair and blue eyes, just like his...and yet he was wearing clothes Clark would feel positively embarrassed to wear, snappy stylish clothing that looked like it'd been taken from Lex's closet. "Kal" was giving the camera a lazy smirk as if to say "yeah, you got me, and?"

This was a picture of him, but he hadn't worn anything like that, had he? Pushing the photo out of the way, Clark bent over his file. His age and stuff was the same. What caught his eye was the line where it stated "Kal" had an addiction problem. While that in itself was laughable, it was the part where it said what his apparent drug of choice that made any humor die:

Red K.

Highly addictive.

Clark sat there. It didn't click immediately. He stared at it, astonished. How could anyone know about that? He'd been on the stuff twice. While it'd turned him pretty much inside out and made him...well, made him a big jerk who did what he wanted and then some, Clark knew Lex couldn't have known about this. No one could. Only Pete and his parents knew about those incidents and how the first time he'd gotten progressively more dangerous the longer he was exposed to red kryptonite. And yet here it was, in neat, decidedly clinical writing stating that Clark, Kal, was an addict of a drug which happened to sound suspiciously like red kryptonite.

It had to be a coincidence.

But the doubt was still there despite his attempts to reassure himself.

He still wasn't happy about what had happened to Artemis. The urge to go and try to get some kind of revenge for such a cruel attack, the only way he could help really, was strong. But he couldn't do anything. Was barely keeping himself together and that was only with Schuldig's help. He needed to start doing things again. Damn, and he wasn't even sure if he was meant to be working with Schuldig again tonight. He didn't want to intrude of Schwartz too much. Maybe he should try finding Aya tonight, or Ken or Omi, except those two were involved in the Arts and Crafts thing.

Ah, he'd see what happened. For now though, he should eat and return those pills to the clinic. He didn't want to risk having another night like that while still having them in his possession.

After lunch Argilla had asked to be taken to her room so she could sleep for a while, claiming that she wasn't feeling well. The nurse had insisted on checking her temperature, leaving Argilla to force down the urge to just bite her there and then while she was alone and see if the nurses were edible during the daytime hours. It might have been worth it to get a chunk of flesh that she could eat.

But then she'd be sedated during the time that she could use better for hunting so she'd resisted. And at least she was away from temptation in her room. She wondered absently if Nami was alright now. Her roommate had seemed kind of ill the other day and the demon couldn't help but feel worried about her.

Dinner. Kairi had had a pleasant talk with Anise, and was in a rather cheerful mood as she entered her room. Eyes peering, she was surprised to not see Rukia yet, but the once princess knew it could just mean that the girl was still off somewhere getting dinner.

Moving to her desk, the young girl poked curiously at the glob of mashed potatoes before taking a forkful and shoving it in her mouth, pleasantly surprised with the taste. Once she decided that it was, in fact, not poisoned and/or gross, she proceeded to try out the rest of the items on her plate, saving the slice of pie for last.

Bella couldn’t help but sigh to herself as she was brought back to her room for dinner, a frown crossing her lips as she peered around the empty room. No roommate in sight – she was getting used to being alone, really. Maybe she really was cursed in the roommate department.

Frowning, the teenager moved over towards her bed, holding her plate tray as she sat down, her eyes apprehending the food with a questionable glance. It wasn’t that she wasn’t hungry, it was just … well, she wasn’t used to eating such an extravagant meal.

She sucked it up anyway and began to eat, placing the tray down for a few minutes as she turned to stare towards her desk before returning to her food.

Ed had snarled and growled and struggled when the nurse had come to drag him off, not wanting to leave Fox's side when his friend was beat up like that. He was going to make them pay! All of them! He'd get them back for what they'd done to his friends!

His growling had earned him a sharp lecture about his behaviour and how it had been going downhill for the last few days and he was never going to get better if he kept acting up like this. It had just made him snarl more until the nurse had left in annoyance. Ugh, stupid woman. He hated this place and there was no reason for him to act like a good little boy when he didn't intend to bend to their wills.

For once, he'd apparently beaten the kid back to their cell: there wasn't any of that scrawny ass at the desk.

Sanzo quickly set about to changing to his old clothes, shedding the Landels uniform.

As soon as he'd finished, he knelt near his own bed. So far the staff had been either extremely stupid, lazy, or hadn't noticed the stuff he'd hidden around the place earlier, but it only took one fuck up....

The monk fished around under the bed frame, fingers carefully feeling out for the metal handle and blades...

At least on this, luck held out. Everything was still there.

Slowly, he drew out two of the scalpels. He'd managed to lift five from the autopsy room, and that bonesaw. Between those and the gun and cigarettes, he was in better shape than several days ago... so the loss of two blades wouldn't hurt too much.

Sanzo dumped them on Hitsugaya's desk, before returning to slouch on the bed, a knee drawn up.

He'd made use of Hitsugaya's maps and that bat earlier; not that it meant Sanzo was going to be joining his group any time either, but it was the closest to calling it even that the priest was ever going to get.

After a rather odd talk with the newest recruits to the History Club, Okita was ushered out of the Sun Room and back to his room. He didn't mind this so much, considering it meant he was one step closer to night. Night meant two things - first, his talk with Kenshin and second, revenge on the nurses. Tonight, he was very careful to smile pleasantly at his captor and memorize specific details about her appearance. Should she be one of the nurses they ran into that night, he'd be certain to pay her extra care. The nurse, mistaking his smile for pleasantry, waved at him as she left him in his room with his meal.

Turkey, potatoes and vegetables - better than lunch, but still a little too Western. He supposed it was too much to ask for a Japanese meal twice in a row. The apple pie thing sounded good though and he eyed it for all of two seconds before he pushed his meal aside and dove into that as his main course. It was sweet, a little tangy and very delicious. Much like the cinnamon bun he'd had before, there was the slightest hint of the same foreign spice in this dessert, too. Eating more than half of it before he decided he should try the rest of the meal, Okita began poking at the vegetables and waited to see when Guy would show up.

The girl at the last shift had been interesting. He had never expected to see anyone younger than he was here and for some reason, that made him angry. How dare they put such small kids in here? It seemed ironic for him to be saying that, but then, he never had thought of himself as a child.

Lead back to his room, Ritsuka looked around for Tamaki, but didn't see him yet. Maybe the guy was busy. They hadn't really talked or anything in a few days (or so it seemed), but Ritsuka felt somewhat obligated to worry about his roommate's health and welfare. Sitting down at his desk, he ignored the green vegetables and focused on the carrots and the mashed potatoes, eating quietly as he waited to see if anyone would show up to talk tonight.

Lia found herself feeling somewhat disappointed as she was led away from the music room and into the relative solitude of the patient rooming facilities. The conversation she'd been having with Rangiku had been interesting, all the more so because she herself had never even thought to consider the possibilities of other worlds, other forms of magic.

And there was, too, the reality of company, that it distracted one from lines of reasoning that might be better left unpursued. She noted as the matronly nurse let her into the room, a different one than she had initially awoken in, that there was no one else present, though the room was clearly designed for use by two people. The nurse left a dinner tray on one of the desks before departing, a clear indication of which side of the room was to be Lia's. She didn't mind; it would save her searching around to see if the other person staying there had already settled their things in somewhere. As the door clicked shut, she found herself torn between relishing the momentary breather and hoping that whoever her roommate might turn out to be, she would arrive quickly.

Trying to keep her mind solely on the current situation, Lia settled herself at "her" desk and tucked in to her dinner. Try as she might, however, she could not keep her thoughts to turning back to the difficulties that still existed at home.

Though Anise still wasn't feeling her best, her talk with Kairi had left her in better shape than before. That girl was trying to cheer her up, wasn't she? Well, she hadn't done a bad job, so Anise couldn't complain.

She felt a little bad for not signing up for any work tonight, but she just didn't feel up to it. Emotionally, she had been a wreck earlier that day and was feeling pretty drained by now. Physically, that stupid pain in her chest was flaring up whenever she so much as breathed too hard. As she was now, she knew she wouldn't be any help to the Cooking Club.

Her nurse had thoughtfully left a couple painkillers with Anise's dinner. If the girl wasn't so intent on hating everyone associated with Landel's, she would have been incredibly grateful to the woman. Hopefully they would kick in by nightfall. In the meantime, Anise let her mind wander a bit as she started on her dinner.

Sync... What were they going to do about him? What could they do about him? Though Anise would never dare say it, the truth was that Sync scared her. Even though he was an enemy - and such a cruel, twisted one at that! - whenever he used that voice, that smile... Anise felt weak. Even though her Ion, the only one who really mattered, was here with her! She couldn't help it, and she hated herself for it. Somehow, she needed to find the courage to stand up to that faker, or else avoid him completely.

Jack had spent the last shift dozing pleasantly within the music room. He'd had a nagging feeling that he was supposed to do something, but he couldn't quite remember what it was anymore and he had a nice, relaxing shift for once. Without the need to perform, Jack felt a little better than before. Even with things topsy-turvy here, getting a little time to himself was something he realized he desperately needed. He'd been able to think, to really, really think about what it was he was doing here.

Not that he'd reached any conclusions, but such were the hardships of thinking - you didn't always get a satisfactory end.

Back in his room, the skeleton sat down at his desk and started in on his food. Soon he'd be back to having an audience, so he let himself take this moment just for him.

Confusion. That was really the only thing Mori could really set his teeth into and call real. These people weren't from Ouran, but they knew Tamaki and the twins. Nia had explained this place, but he hadn't really believed her at first. Certainly, stranger things had to have happened, but only in Renge's strange fantasies or in those weird video games, right?

Right?

The most important thing he'd learned that day was that Mitsukuni had been here. Operative word: had. He was gone or missing, and hadn't been seen in days. How long had Mori been asleep? Could he have missed all that? It didn't seem possible considering how he'd just seen Mitsukuni the other day when they'd been able to catch the tanuki. But if Mitsukuni was now missing that meant...

"Ah, William! Watch your--"

Too late. Mori felt a sharp pain as he ran straight into the top of the doorframe, knocking himself back and teetering for a second before he straightened again, reaching up to rub his newest injury. On the way here, he'd slipped twice, run into the wall and tripped over his own feet. This wasn't a good sign.

"...be careful, will you?"

Mori nodded and ducked, going into the room before taking the tray his nurse held out for him. She told him to eat up and then left, closing the door behind her. Mori just stared at it for awhile and then turned, going over to his desk and sitting down in the chair. Where had Mitsukuni gone off to?

While her day hadn't been completely eventful, Nia was happy to have helped at least one new person before night fell. The former princess didn't complain when her nurse escorted her to her room, quickly taking a seat on the edge of the bed and watched the women prepare her food.

"Be careful, Rachel. It's hot," The latter warned before handing the plate over. The nurse made sure to set the place the apple pie and water off to the side and quickly left the girl to tend to her thoughts. Unfortunately, Nia really didn't have much to think about when it came to the upcoming night. She had completely forgotten to sign up for the Cooking Club (again) and she hadn't made any plans with anyone else when she had the chance.

The former princess sighed, pressing a piece of turkey in her mouth.

Another day going by in this place and nothing to show for it. Fuck. At least the sudden nap in the Sun Room hadn't been too bad. Nobody had bothered him, and he'd slept hard enough that he didn't even dream.

Guess they were both tired.

The food smelled okay, and with barely a pause to wonder if he would have the same roommate or if he'd get a new one again, he started to eat.

Haku had been in the Sun Room only for a few minutes before asking his nurse to take him to the Music Room. He wasn't there either. With a tired smile, he'd agreed with the woman that perhaps going back to his room for a rest might be best.

He hadn't slept though, instead meditated while planning out his night. He was injured, in pain, but his Master was missing. Haku had to know if he was still here or not. He hadn't seen him all day, and there had been no trace of his presence anywhere.

When dinner arrived, he tried his best to look happy and interested, but his mindwas elsewhere.

Where was Artemis? Seeing his friend might help...

"You made quite a mess out of that room, Stephen. Do you know how dangerous it is tossing things around like that?" The nurse scolded lightly at the boy who in turn looked up at her with an empty expression.

"... I couldn't help it."

The woman merely she shook her head and coaxed her patient into the next hallway. It didn't take long for them to reach their destination and Sync stepped inside the new room with disinterest. It looked about the same as the room he'd woken up in, but the location was somewhat different from what he remembered.

"Whatever the case may be I don't want you doing it again." After setting the God-General's food down the nurse finally left the room, giving him some much needed time alone. Sync wasted no time pulling out several sheets of paper from the waistband of his pants, laying them on top of the desk before searching around the room for anything to transfer them to. He immediately stumbled on a notebook inside the drawer, pulling it out and quickly began the tedious task of recopying everything down.

Finally realizing that he hadn't eaten anything since he arrived, Sync gave a wary glance at the plate of food. It certainly didn’t look inedible, so in the end he shoved some meat in his mouth in an attempt to spare himself from the awful taste. However, whatever he was expecting didn’t come as a pleasant burst of flavor filled his mouth. The teen blinked once, staring down at his food in disbelief.

Renamon was dispointed when the shift ended, but more than settled about what was found out within it. She stopped at the Bulletin Board again, wishing she had found that "journal" Yukari mentioned earlier so she could have copied down the map. As it was, she memorized the quickest route to where she wanted to go, and was escorted to her room.

Memories flashed from earlier, but she was not as unstable as that anymore. Exploring the room a bit, she found the journal and pens, and set about making a page of notes of the information she gathered. She wasn't used to eating, so ignoring the meal wasn't a hardship. Even so, she found herself reaching for the vegetables as she wrote. If this was dinner, night would fall soon. Renamon had planning to do.

When the nurse left, Angel took the opportunity of his roommate's lacking presence to check under his bed for the sword he'd borrowed off Anya. Well, taken and then borrowed, that was.

Still there. None of the staff seemed interested in checking their rooms, apparently. It wasn't something he could complain about, but it was odd regardless.

He sat down at the desk, contemplating. He still wasn't sure how he felt about leaving Willow by herself tonight, but if she was in her room...he had been told the rooms were the safest place to be. Theoretically.

Although it had not been a true piano, Brook had been delighted to play something similar just as well, and to have that young woman there as well! He was a little upset for how quickly their conversation had been cut though; he had wanted to ask to see her panties! Someone so nice might have actually let him too!

"Will I be allowed back in that room again, Miss?" Brook asked as he ducked into his room to avoid injuring his afro. Really, these doors needed to be taller! "I did enjoy it so!"

"Of course you will, but not right now, dear. It's dinner time, and you can't both eat and play music at the same time."

"Yohohoho! I beg to differ!"

The nurse put a hand to her mouth, trying not to laugh too much. She wasn't supposed to encourage him, not when he was only playing out the whole thing. The poor thing. "Well then, don't make too much music while you're eating, or you'll upset your roommate when he gets here." She nodded, then left the tray there for him.

"Yes, Ma'am!" he agreed, waving her off before he grabbed the fork and sang out a "Itadakimaaaaaaasu~" before diving in.

Meeting with Subaru had been helpful. Now he knew what to look for and had an option for just where to look. He'd have to decide what to do concerning that after he managed to find the Princess's room though.

Sitting down to eat, he expected another quiet night since that "Seishirou" hadn't appeared during the day either. Just where he'd disappeared to, he didn't know, but the Shinobi could only think "good riddance" for it.
