Day 32: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on and the Head Doctor spoke with his usual fervor.

"Good evening, patients and staff! I am pleased to announce that the arrival of nearly all of our new patients will conclude this shift. In addition, we have a very delicious dinner in store for you: carved Turkey with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed, seasoned vegetables. For drinks, we have our usual assortment available, and as a dessert included with your dinner, we will be serving a slice of warm apple pie with each meal.

"I trust that those of you enjoying the company of new roommates will give them a warm Landel's welcome, and I also hope that those of you who participated in therapy today were able to find a productive time with their doctors.

"That's all for now! Enjoy dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again.

[ Please respond to this post with all dinner shift threads between roommate, putting your character's respective room in the subject line. While we have none scheduled for this shift at this time: all introduction posts for this shift's group of new characters should be made in response to this post; the introduction may then continue on to be a regular roommate thread. ]

"Oh really? Still, I think you could use a little bit more fun and relaxation in your life. After all, a woman needs pampering." Nami was a very strong proponent of relaxation, though of course she made sure she had her work on the ship done first - very important, and a lesson certain of her crew could stand to learn.

"Interesting. You'll have to tell me about everything you can do later." She was most interested in learning certain things about her first night here, and her encounter in the kitchen with something that was.. well, a demon like they all had run into the other night. But there were better topics to discuss, and Nami didn't want to ruin the mood.

A sickness, though? It made her smile. "Nope. I think everyone's like that in one way or another." Of course for Nami it was money - sweet, sweet money. She could bathe in it and it would be all right. Her heart skipped a beat just thinking about all the beli she had, or could get... ...and that it was all in the Going Merry right now. Woe. Woe. Surely the most daunting part of this damned Institute.

"Maybe if you tell him about your affliction he can make it better, you know," she said coyly. "There's a chance he knows exactly what you're talking about." Sure, relationships weren't for Nami, but that didn't mean she didn't enjoy seeing people happy. Especially if she could find a way to collect on the debt later! Heh heh.

"Pampering. I've never tried anything like that. I'm a soldier. That's what I was created to be." She also had no idea what pampering entailed anyway, although she did remember the place Roland had been taking her to when they'd been in town. People getting their nails 'done'.

She nodded in agreement. "That's kind of a lot. We had to get so much money together to be able to buy the mantras to get the spells. It's frustrating not to have them available." They'd had to collect so much macca in the JUnkyard and then start all over again in the underground city. She really wouldn't be happy if they had to do it for a third time.

"Oh... so I'm not ill." Huh. That was good to know, she supposed, but it still didn't explain why she was feeling these things. She looked at Nami curiously, frowning a little as she thought over the advice. "Roland's not much of a healer though. Unless it's some kind of thing from the real world that he knows about." This was confusing.

"Created or not, you're a woman, Argilla," Nami purred. "As soon as you learn that women need such things, you'll be much more comfortable in your own skin, I think." This girl really needed to lighten up, Nami was certain. Such a pretty face, with natural makeup and everything - and long, pink, wavy hair - Nami was sure that Argilla could have all the men flopping at her feet if she wanted. Not that it was very difficult for some men to do that, but. Men were tools, on the whole, and a lady who knew how to use those tools correctly was a smart one.

"Ohhhh, so much moneyyyy," Nami moaned, truly distraught at the thought of even someone else losing their hard-earned stash. "I'm so sorry. That sounds terrible."

Suddenly Nami got up, going over to her desk and pulling out the bunch of pens bunched together and walking over to her roommate, yanking off the rubber band. Poising herself behind Argilla for a moment, she swept all her hair up into a smart-looking bun on the back of her head, fixing it with a rubber band. "No, you're not ill, and it's not something normal healers heal. And I'm not sure if he knows about it, if you don't know about it..."

Making sure two little tendrils of hair were hanging down around Argilla's face, she stood back up, surveying the other woman. "There. You look nice. Now go break some hearts, okay? Let me know if he says anything and I might do something a little fancier tomorrow."

Uh oh. The tone in Nami's voice was kind of... odd. She knew she was a woman, it just always came second to being a soldier and women were no different to men in the Junkyard. There had never been any kind of different treatment or actions and the underground city had been in a similar situation. "I... I suppose so..." Argilla offered after a moment, smiling weakly. She'd have to take Nami's word for it. And it would be nice to feel more human, more normal.

She laughed softly at Nami's distressed moan. "It was difficult. Some of those mantras were really expensive. And that's on top of equipment and ammunition. We found a good few plants to sell though. They made a lot of money." Even if it had seemed like a shame to sell them. They'd been pretty and exotic.

The demon watched with some confusion when Nami moved and was too surprised to do much when the other woman slipped behind her and started to do something to her hair. She reached up to touch it gingerly when she'd done. A bun, like she normally had, catching her hair up behind her. It felt a little odd, but not bad. It was different. She'd never had anything but her normal hairstyle. After a moment thought she smiled, nodding at Nami. "Thankyou. I'll try. I appreciate your help." She wasn't entirely sure what she could do (and she didn't have access to a charm spell here which was the closest she could relate to), but she thought that Nami was probably more knowledgeable in this area than she was. Argilla would stick to sniping. "I think he'll like it."
