Day 32: Intercom, Evening

The intercom clicked on and the Head Doctor spoke with his usual fervor.

"Good evening, patients and staff! I am pleased to announce that the arrival of nearly all of our new patients will conclude this shift. In addition, we have a very delicious dinner in store for you: carved Turkey with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed, seasoned vegetables. For drinks, we have our usual assortment available, and as a dessert included with your dinner, we will be serving a slice of warm apple pie with each meal.

"I trust that those of you enjoying the company of new roommates will give them a warm Landel's welcome, and I also hope that those of you who participated in therapy today were able to find a productive time with their doctors.

"That's all for now! Enjoy dinner, everyone!"

The intercom clicked off again.

[ Please respond to this post with all dinner shift threads between roommate, putting your character's respective room in the subject line. While we have none scheduled for this shift at this time: all introduction posts for this shift's group of new characters should be made in response to this post; the introduction may then continue on to be a regular roommate thread. ]

The tapping grew a little feverish and Mori just stared at the fork before looking away again. If looking at him was what caused the discomfort, then he'd change his line of vision. Returning his gaze to his food, Mori continued to eat and wondered just what spices they were using. Nothing too exotic or even that expensive from the taste and smell of it. Pepper, salt, gravy made from the oils that escaped the turkey - simple foods that would likely please most people's tastes. He was more of a traditionalist though and preferred picked vegetables to steamed ones.

Mori's thoughts traveled on that route until they were suddenly derailed by the sound of his roommate's voice again. Deep thinker? Raising his eyes, he shook his head and sat back, looking at Reid fully now. It was really weird having to introduce himself. "Morinozuka Takashi. You?"

Another one. This time, he didn’t bother to point out that he wouldn’t be remembering that name any time soon, instead shrugging lazily at it. The Reid Garwin sign of acknowledgment. “Reid,” he allowed, cutting off the tapping to speak. With that gone, the fork needed new work, and so he speared a piece of broccoli and pushed it into the mashed potatoes. He’d never had so many people try to pass off so many Asian names to him, not unless it was one of Aaron’s little buddies, wanking about the latest geek convention.

Wasn’t sure if this was better or worse than the other chatty guy.

Still, Reid was the one with tenure in the room, wasn’t he? He resumed eating a bit. "Are all of you coming from the same place?" And then, because Reid needed a follow up question that he knew more about, he added, "How long have you been?"
