Day 31: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle came on with its usual overly-cheery quality, echoing through the halls and doctors' offices.

"I trust, as always, that you all enjoyed the last shift and that all the staff-patient interaction went smoothly. Of course, we're nearing the end of another day and so we must begin to bring things to a close. Nurses and orderlies, please escort all the patients to their respective rooms and make sure everyone gets their dinner--which is, by the way, chicken teriyaki and assorted tempura, along with rice and miso soup--before they retire for the night. A vegetarian substitute is of course available, and we have our usual assortment of drinks; we also have a special of hot green tea to go along with the meal.

"Thank you, everyone, for an exceedingly pleasant day, and our therapy sessions will continue tomorrow as scheduled. Enjoy your dinner, and I will be on again before bedtime to say goodnight."

The announcement ended.

[ As always, individual dinner threads go in response to this post, and it helps to put your character's room number in the subject line. Thanks! ]

Kagura gave Max a confused look, "Is... there something wrong with that name?" She honestly wasn't sure. With all the strange foreign names she'd heard over the last couple of days, it was hard just to keep them all straight. How was she supposed to know which ones were weird and which ones weren't? It sounded nice enough. A name like Thursday though? Now that was strange.

"Ah..." she started as the gears turned in her mind. "There are... shinigami here?" It wasn't as though she could fall back on the excuse of 'those are only in legends,' after all, so was the story of the Chinese zodiac, and she knew better than most just how real that story was. "Mm... you be careful too. Are you looking for anything in... in particular? Or just going exploring too?"

Max grinned. "Maybe not where he's from. In my world - maybe it's just my country? - it's a girl's name. It could be different, though. A lot of things are."

"Yeah, a couple, apparently. Big red-headed guy with tattoos is the one I met first. If you check the bulletin board, you'll see them posting a lot. They're the ones that are organizing the groups that get together and go out at night, from what I can see. And I think we're exploring, but Renji - that's the redhead - mentioned something about the basement, so I guess we'll see."

"Hmm... he didn't seem like a girl, at least... I don't think so," Kagura played with her fork as she pondered the idea. The Sohma boys were at least as pretty as Bridget had been. It wasn't all that uncommon, not as far as she was concerned.

"Oh..." she blinked a few times, trying to wrap her mind around that idea as well. She just knew the boy, Hitsugaya from earlier, but she didn't remember him saying much about being a shinigami. She was pretty sure she'd have caught something like that. But the one Max was describing didn't sound at all like the sweet (if a little angry) boy she'd met earlier! He sounded like some kind of street tough for the yakuza! "Well... well do be careful," she told the girl, meaning every word of it. She'd have to talk to Leon later and see if he knew anything about this shinigami business.

She hesitated a moment, sipping at her green tea, "We're... gonna get out of here, aren't we?" Sooner, she hoped, rather than later, but getting out at all was starting to feel very far away.
