Day 31: Intercom, Evening

The intercom's jingle came on with its usual overly-cheery quality, echoing through the halls and doctors' offices.

"I trust, as always, that you all enjoyed the last shift and that all the staff-patient interaction went smoothly. Of course, we're nearing the end of another day and so we must begin to bring things to a close. Nurses and orderlies, please escort all the patients to their respective rooms and make sure everyone gets their dinner--which is, by the way, chicken teriyaki and assorted tempura, along with rice and miso soup--before they retire for the night. A vegetarian substitute is of course available, and we have our usual assortment of drinks; we also have a special of hot green tea to go along with the meal.

"Thank you, everyone, for an exceedingly pleasant day, and our therapy sessions will continue tomorrow as scheduled. Enjoy your dinner, and I will be on again before bedtime to say goodnight."

The announcement ended.

[ As always, individual dinner threads go in response to this post, and it helps to put your character's room number in the subject line. Thanks! ]

The blow was solid, right on Diva's temple, and her head rocked with the force, serpentine strands of hair being disturbed and sliding down her shoulder. Her fingers clenched down into Yukari's shoulder, but although the hand around her neck remained, it didn't twitch. If she crushed Yukari's neck by accident, then she'd have killed the thing, and would have to get the blood in a whole new messy way.

"And to think you were too stupid to take my offer," Diva hummed lightly, as though her head hadn't just been knocked ajar. Then she moved, quicker than normal, pressing herself flush against Yukari's body, knees digging in to the other's legs to try and ward off any kicking. In other time, kicking might have been bad. It might have ripped the hem of a dress. "It'll all be over soon," she whispered, a sing-song quality to her tone. The words were spoken right before she ducked her head forward again, biting at her prize.

She would have rather said that sharp feeling on her neck was an unfamiliar one; unfortunately, it wasn't.

It was the same all over again, and Yukari couldn't have felt any more pathetic about it. She couldn't even hold back the pained gasp when Diva bit, or hide her shaky, heavy breaths. Her entire body was trembling, fear overpowering any rational thought she could conjure.

Stop, stop, stop, stop! Yukari could only repeat it in her head, praying a miracle would happen and her new mantra would come true. It couldn't be over soon, she didn't want it to be, she absolutely could not die now!

Her legs may have been pinned against the wall, but it seemed as though Diva still left at least one arm completely free. The other was somewhat difficult to move, with the shoulder pressed against as well, though it wasn't completely immobilized. Whether it would have made her new injury worse or not, Yukari lifted her arms the best she could and pressed against Diva's chest, trying to pry her away.
