Nightshift 28: East Wing, South Hall 1-A

[[from here]]

With the thought of food fresh in his mind, Allen found himself hurrying along, his mood just a little bit brighter. It seemed like his stomach was always rumbling in this place.  While the dinner had been sufficient, he was already hungry again after using so much of his strength just to invoke the Innocence back on the bus.

He had to be careful though, his eyes were still adjusting to the darkness.  Usually the dorm rooms and hallways were safe, but then, usually there weren't giant automobiles and trips into town that ended with everyone being attacked by transforming nurses.  He wasn't going to take any chances if he didn't have to.

Sanji tried to grin but it came out looking more like a lopsided smirk. "O'course I c'n cook! I'm a chef! An expertise n'fine cuisine." One of the best, if you asked him, if not the best. That would be gloating, though, and he didn't need to do that. His food could speak for him.

If he ever got the chance to actually cook for the kid, which wasn't likely. Best to keep a positive face anyway.

The intercom nearby crackled to life, only transmitting static for a moment before a voice spoke over it. "Mummy? Where are you, Mummy?"

The Child could sense people somewhere, but he couldn't see them, and he wanted to know if one of them was Mummy. She had to be close by, she never went far, but he was lost and he needed to find her. She'd told him to stay put, but she'd been gone so long...

"Mum-my..."

Tamaki turned down the hall that led to the men's block, faltering when he heard a strange, crackling voice from nowhere.

No. No, no, no.

"Lady Shana...hold on!" he exclaimed, tightening his grip and reaching down for all his strength to run as fast as he possibly could through the door into the men's block.

[identity profile] hamenleai.livejournal.com 2007-11-28 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
"What is that?" Shana whispered as Tamaki tightened his grip, making her wince. The child's voice echoed in the hall and made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.

Shadow followed the few people he saw disappear down the left and did his best to try to figure out where he was. Nothing looked at all familiar. He noticed that as some turned right and, not wanting to be left with to injured people alone in a place where monsters lurked.

"We're going right," he announced, and turned before the others could stop him.

Rukia hoped that all the blood on the young man she had just healed wouldn't attract any more monstrous creatures. As she, Fai, and Jack followed him, she quickly realized that they must be heading for one of the M-Blocks.

She would need to get her katana soon, so she could meet Renji, but it was probably a good idea to get these guys to the clinic first.

[identity profile] not-rly-fai.livejournal.com 2007-12-03 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Yuuhi was impressed at the boy's ability to stay focused in spite of his injuries. The directions were clear and simple enough that even Sakura would have had no trouble with them.

And though Jack's comment was directed at Rukia, he felt no reason why he oughtn't comply as well. Captain was fun to say, but he supposed Jack was just as good. The man seemed to be doing alright, as he'd said. He didn't rely quite as much on Yuuhi's assistance, which was something of a relief. He gave a short laugh, "Haha, yes, I was supposed to meet up for some kind of search tonight too. Looks like our plans might be shot Rukia. Unless you know where Renji-bear is?"

And Jack was just as good at teasing as he'd said too! He smiled to himself at Rukia's cute look of surprise. "I think I'm alright, but if you wouldn't mind getting the door?" he offered as they reached the turn in the hall near the doorway.

Instinct and experience both told Hiei this hallway wasn't empty, but he didn't care. He wasn't interested in whatever might be lurking in the dark; for now he could outrun them, and that was good enough. Let others worry about their own problems. It wasn't any of his concern.

It wasn't difficult to follow Ran's familiar reiatsu back out into the hall. She wasn't too far from what he could tell. Probably back in the women's block getting her things just as he was. He didn't pause, the light of his flashlight bouncing slightly as he hurried through the dark hallway.

Shadow looked up and down the hall trying to get a feel for his surroundings. It was rather difficult to get his bearings while everything was so dark, but it seemed vaguely familiar and he was sure he could find his way back. He would just have to remember which way he turned. He walked down the corridor and realized it ended in a 'T'. He figured he could try going left. It was just as good as any other direction.

Here Leon paused. If he started searching the halls there would be a chance he'd miss one or all of them. He could stay here and wait for them to come out, but what if they came from further up and went in the opposite direction? Though, seeing as he had no clue where to start, they could be on the second floor for all he knew. But here was as good a place to start as any.

Now he was feeling a little more in his element. With his sword and flashlight in hand, Claude moved through the hallways as stealthily as he could manage. He knew Ashton was in room M12 and had been there before, so finding it definitely wasn't a problem. With any luck, nothing really important had happened while he'd been away.

Just as he was about to turn into the block Ashton's room was in, Claude paused when he caught sight of a familiar figure. With a surge of relief, he realized it was none other than Leon D.S. Geeste. And it was a good thing, too, because he'd honestly started to get a little uneasy that he hadn't seen the little guy all day.

"There you are!" he called, approaching young boy with a bright expression. For a moment, he even forgot he was decked out in his usual Earth Federation attire (well, not counting the paperboy hat he'd kept on just because).

He reached out to slide his hand along the wall, using it as much for support as to make sure they didn't accidentally pass the door in the dark. They were almost there, he could push himself that far. He'd lived through worse.

He couldn't think of specific situations off hand, but his brain seemed to be working slowly, anyway.

Tripping over nothing and only barely catching himself from faceplanting, though, started to scare even him. But they were almost there. What were the chances Yohji wouldn't overreact if he noticed? Better to distract him ahead of time. "It's the first hallway in the block. About halfway down."

[identity profile] never-learns.livejournal.com 2007-12-07 01:54 am (UTC)(link)
Yohji stayed close to the other assassin as they walked, only taking his eyes off him to look around and make sure that they weren't about to be attacked by anything. "I'm not that bad!" he protested gently when the comment about the alcohol was made. He would use it in a heartbeat to help Omi if it was necessary.

They reached the door and Yohji slipped inside first, making sure that nothing was lurking in the doorway.

Once they'd arrived in the main hall, Nami immediately veered north. It was an odd turn compared to the way that seemed to usually be taken, judging from the traffic and her forays the night before; hopefully the road less traveled would also be the road less peppered with monsters.

She looked back to make sure they were all there following her before she picked up speed. "We won't have much time to sit around and eat, though, Luffy, I hope you know that. Sanji - could you use the wall, please?"

The chef fell against the wall with a light thud, willing to oblige by Nami's request even if it meant giving up being in physical contact with her. At the very least, it seemed he was a bit steadier than he'd been when Allen had first helped drag him inside. The wall was only needed as an aid if he tripped up.

"I told you I could, Nami-swan," he replied with another grin. "Zoro will need more watching than me, just in case he tries to wander off on his own."

Purely based on his memory, Aya turned at the corner of hallways and continued on his way to yet another dark hallway. There was now more flashlights out, sweeping lights wavering and creating living shadows around them. The simple darkness might have been easier to deal with. But it'd have to sprinkle fire from the ceiling before he'd complain aloud.

Ken was heavy, and silent. Which was not a good sign. He tried to hurry along the way, however pointless that turned out to be.

Kikyo followed after and with his silent and quicker footsteps, he passed them to walk a few paces ahead. He didn't know where Ran's room was, but he knew that the young man would indicated to him when they got to its vicinity.

No dangers were lurking in this part of the hall tonight, which was a fortunate thing for the wounded.

As they reached a door, Kikyo glanced over his shoulder. Sensing a nod from the other, he reached with his hand and pushed the door open.

Once again taking the lead, Anise led the others around the corner, to the next hall. Having never actually been all the way to the M-block, it was a little hard to tell if they were in the right place.

If it's the same as the women's rooms, there should be a door around here, she reasoned, trying to make out any shapes in the darkness. It didn't take too long until she found a door similar to the one she remembered in the F-block. "Here! It should be this way." She opened it and peered inside to confirm it, and while she couldn't see very much, it looked close enough. If it was wrong, surely one of the two men would notice and say something, having passed through the halls leading to and from the men's rooms a few times themselves.

Since the detective appeared to have his hands full with Leon, she held the door wide open for the two.

[identity profile] for-marian.livejournal.com 2007-12-14 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
Like ice? Hardly. Granted, Leon was certainly feeling chilled and lightheaded from the blood loss, but he thought 'like ice' was one hell of an exaggeration. He'd felt the cold of death, and nothing compared to that. Not that he wasn't feeling just about as rotten as he ever had, short of the whole 'dying' thing. But at least when he'd died, he'd been alone with Chaltier--this was infinitely more annoying and humiliating.

As for how close they were to the clinic, Leon wasn't entirely sure. He hadn't really been watching where they were going, too wrapped up in his fuming. But his room was M86 and in the northeastern corner of the barracks, or whatever they called it, so he hadn't actually been up the hall the clinic was in before, anyway. Unless Gremio had carried him through it, the night he lost his fingers. That part of the night was very fuzzy in his memory, as this would no doubt be come morning.

Blood loss really, really sucked.

Yes, what if? Phibrizzo smirked.

"I don't really care what the nurses say, boy," Katou muttered as he droned on, following wherever the kid was leading him. If there had been a moment in his life when he had cared what the local authority had to say, it had been long time ago.

And this was beginning to bore him. There was nothing as annoying as boredom, as far as Katou knew.

Claude glanced at his map as they made their way through the hallway. Now that he didn't have a sword anymore, he felt naked and vulnerable. It made him wonder how he'd managed without a weapon on his first two nights here. He'd just been fortunate he hadn't been attacked by anything vicious. That kind of lucky streak couldn't last forever, though. They'd need to take necessary precautions before stealing metal. After all, if it was so precious, it'd make sense for it to be heavily guarded, right?

The blond knew he could be brash and impulsive, but he wasn't stupid, no matter what Dias thought. Going into a weird situation without anything to defend himself with...that was suicide. Besides, just because something wasn't a sword didn't mean it couldn't be used as a real weapon! His military training had taught him that resourcefulness and creativity were very important during situations like these.

Once again, he recalled Dias's curt words from earlier, and his blood almost started boiling again.

"The rec field is just outside, on the other side of this hallway," Claude explained as he and Leon walked. "I'm thinking once we get outside, we should hug the walls as best we can until we're right in front of the shed. Then it should be a straight dash from there." If they cut across the field diagonally, it'd leave them open on all sides, and Claude didn't think that was such a great idea.

Especially since it was just the two of them now.

[identity profile] heraldric.livejournal.com 2007-12-13 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
The Recreational Field had actually been one of Leon's first stops the first night he'd arrived at Landels and thus he knew exactly where it was. He wasn't going to point that out to Claude at a time like this, however. He also didn't remember if there was a shed there or not, as he and Xelloss had hugged the wall then, too. Only that time they'd gone in what he was certain was the opposite direction to where they were to head now.

He wondered how Xelloss was doing now. The man had seemed amiable enough in the short while they were together, and he briefly wondered if it would be possible to trade him for Dias. But that was wishful thinking, and he shoved it aside.

"There are two entrances to the field from these halls," Leon pointed out just to add something, even though Claude would probably already have realized this from his map.

"Are you my mummy?" he asked, looking up at them. Between the mask and his age, it was hard to tell at a glance if he was even human, let alone what gender he was.
