Nightshift 27: M1-M40 block hallway

[From here]

Recluse turned the corner into the cell block hallway, still internally ranting about Landel. He was used to being the one in control of people like that infuriating doctor. There was a whole recruitment program for 'Mad Scientists' in Arachnos.

The vast majority of them ended up being killed by their on projects. Often in quite amusing, bloody, agonizing ways. That one little thought made everything seem just a little bit better.

The Head Doctor's words were worrisome tonight. There would probably be an influx of people heading toward the kitchen, where their goal for the night was. Would that mean more trouble? And what was 'down below' in the kitchen...?

Naruto contemplated these things as he padded into the open hallway outside his block, alert to how empty it was and how alone he was. He darted toward the F-Blocks, intent to find the girls as quickly as possible.

Sai counted the rows - just one over to the one with the M rooms in their thirties. It was a good sight cleaner than it had been the last time he was there. The bathroom, at least, showed no sign of leeches. Yet.

He made a right, and went for the pirate's door.

River squatted down near the wall. Might as well play while she waited. Hair hanging in her face, the girl drew circles with her finger in the dirt. Or what would've been the dirt, had she lived in a dirty place. The paint was invisible, and it would never wash off the walls of hell.

Daemon stepped back into the hall that led to his own, and immediately spotted River crouched outside the bathroom door. Knowing his father was following, he approached her with a smile.

"Looks like you've beat us all here, Lady. There's been no sign of Ren or his companion yet?"

Just a little farther. 622 shone the beam from his glowrod down every hallway he passed, trying to pick out if there was any movement in the darkness.

He really wished he had a rifle, but there was no point in wasting time complaining about what he didn't have. Make do, move on.

Ashton's row was... Leon stopped to count. The second one from the back should have M12. He wondered briefly if he would be swift enough to meet his friend's roommate. He didn't see much of his own.

Aya was silent as he walked along, soundless steps falling to the floor steadily. His sides hurt, throbbed with every step he took and yet he refused to acknowledge the pain enough to accept any medication for it. It sucked to be as paranoid as he was, but there was no helping it.

He tried not to think what everyone else was up to tonight. He had heard nothing of Yohji and Omi. He could just hope they were uninjured and faring somehow.

The spot of his flashlight swept past a girl crouched down beside a wall. He ignored her and went on, sparing one moment to calculate the hallways before pushing open a door that would lead him to the right one.

The hallway was empty here, and Javert paused in front of the door to the men's facilities to turn his flashlight on. The beam was distinctly weaker tonight; presumably there must be some way to rectify the situation, but he had no idea as to what it was. Trevelyan probably knew; Javert would have to stifle his pride and ask when the other man turned up.

Leaning against the wall and folding his arms, he settled down to wait, looking for all the world like he was on some stakeout back in Paris.

Harry found the end of his hallways easily enough. He knew that the toilet was pretty close to here, so carefully he moved, to find that someone else was waiting close to where he would be. Careful not to shine his own light directly at the man's face he settled down to wait.

He didn't say anything to the man at first but he noticed that the flashlight beam that the man had was growing weaker.

His 'saving people thing' kicked in (as he was sure Hermione would describe it). Perhaps the man was some wizard who didn't understand how to use the flashlight, or else he had run out of batteries.

"Do you need batteries?" he asked, gesturing to man's flashlight. "Looks like your light is dying."

Halfway there... Larsa thought to himself as he pushed open the set of doors that lead to the first block hallway. There were others now walking amongst him, but the child was too focused on meeting his goal to take any notice. But once he had assured himself that Gabranth was as well as ever then they could discuss what to do next. Mainly, if his guardian knew the exact spot they were to meet up with lady Celes and Edgar.

As usual, he remained ever hopeful that they would accomplish something before the night was through. It would be of no use to anyone if he began to introspect pessimistically, especially when it was his duty as Emperor to remain idealistic of Archadia's future.

The judge had left without a word, leaving the last request unanswered. He sighed with impatience, though perhaps receiving the one request was a miracle in and of itself. If anything, Luxord exuded a completely selfish nature. Except, perhaps, when combined with the feline. Hopefully he would not be bringing the animal back to their room for some time.

Foregoing his map, Noah was armed with the small bottle of blood and his flashlight. The last thing he expected to see when exiting the blocks was his young Lord, it seemed, looking for him. Disturbed at what could have brought the boy here when he had been told to safely stay inside, Noah went to his side immediately, his posture betraying his troubled mind.

"Lord, what on Ivalice has brought you here?" he asked, tone meant to be chiding. "I was just now coming to your room."

622 turned the corner out into the main hall of the cell block, keeping watch for Claire. The only danger with coming to meet her before the RV point like this was that they might miss Claire in the dark.

If they did, he'd feel incredibly stupid and careless.

[identity profile] empty-death.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
TK-622 was not the only one keeping watch for Claire. Faust had his eyes open as well, scanning the way they had come along with the surrounding areas. His night vision wasn't spectacular, but working and existing in almost nothing but the night had helped him develop some senses.

Riza pulled open the door around the corner and slipped inside, immediately listening. But there was no obvious sign of danger here either, only the voices of four male patients in two conversations. Were any of them Harry or Fai?

Before she could step towards them, she noticed the girl crouched by the wall. Though she wasn't doing anything particularly threatening, Riza wasn't sure how to judge her. But then, no one else seemed to pay her any mind, and Riza followed suit. The girl didn't seem hurt, after all, and if she was frightened, they all were, and she wouldn't have made her way here for nothing. But perhaps Riza could speak to her after she found her partners for the night.

She stepped further toward the two groups. She was easier for them to pick out than they were for her, and so she might not have to ask at all. However, she would not wait long. She wasn't terribly impatient, but she wasn't shy, either.

Harry approached the woman after Javert's friend had appeared.

"Are you Hawkeye?" he asked cautiously. "I'm Harry." He knew it probably wasn't the best idea to introduce himself so causally, but he also wasn't sure how else best to go about meeting someone for the first time when you had made plans to survive the night together.

Kurama reached the end of the hall, pausing to note the number of people that were clustered in the vicinity. More than usual, that was certain. And where people clustered, monsters came. It wasn't his business, though, so he continued onward, out the door and to the right. Hopefully they wouldn't regret stopping here.

Stepping into the next hallway, Cloud was certain that this was the right direction. He just had never been this deep in the other men's dorms. He was uncertain where he had to turn up to reach that appropriate room number. Still, having the lead meant he could walk slowly.

He was thinking too hard, just like he always did. He needed to let the thoughts plaguing him go, or it would eat him all night. Just... what if Sephiroth brought the topic up again? He doubted he would see the man again for awhile, if not pursuing him was actually true.

Still, Sephiroth could show up to put the pressure on him.

Barret tapped into only a meager semblance of understanding. After all, Cloud didn't seek answers to questions unless there was a purpose--especially when the answer was as obvious as he was male. Although unfortunately he didn't quite know that the purpose was. He wanted to dwell on it and ask some questions of his own, but he also didn't really have the patience for it either.

Still...his head was too far in the clouds and less likely to focus. He was at a silent crossroads with himself, which was something to didn't happen much. He was often impulsive, so when he suspended his mind to think something through, he had difficulty come to a solid solution he was happy with.

He decided to probe later, more focused on getting to their destination. So he patted Cloud's shoulder briefly as if to say, 'it'll be all right' and back into the lead.

Raine had never gone to Tamaki's room from this direction before, but she did know the way and it really wasn't far. She kept on the alert, not wanting to be caught by surprise; her broom was at the ready, and she was using a magelight, which kept her other hand free. It still flickered more than she liked, but it worked well enough.

She was mostly keeping an eye out for monsters, though, so the brief glimpse of a woman behind her was of little concern...

The hallway was empty save for her and her target. Having set her sights on possibly finding out information concerning her daughter, Beatrix's sense of rationality was gone once the woman turned her attention away from the blonde.

Her target was armed, but it was nothing of a weapon - easily snapped if it became a hindrance. She slipped her flashlight into the back of her waistband, not worrying about its bulkiness as it was inconsequential at the moment.

Set on on her course of action, her blue eyes narrowed in cold anger. She would have her daughter back and if this woman had information, it would be hers. Beatrix struck like the snake she'd been codenamed after her, slamming the woman brutally from behind into the wall. She made sure to strike so that the broom would be trapped between the woman's body and the wall.

She stayed on the woman's back as the forceful impact against the wall was made, and she pinned the woman to the wall. She made to grasp the woman's right arm and wrench it painfully behind her.

"Where's BB?!?" The Bride demanded in a cold, furious voice.

This hallway was more crowded, so Okita slowed and took his time avoiding everyone. Until he spoke to Homura, he had no reason to suspect that any of these people were responsible for Hijikata's disappearance. He hoped they weren't - so many of them seemed young and innocent.

Then again, people had thought he was that way once and that had been the best lie ever told.

Quiely, he slipped into the first block and disappeared down the hall.
