Nightshift 26: F-Block Hallway

[From here.]

Shining the flashlight around the corner, Rukia didn't see any other patients around, which was fine with her at the moment. She wanted to get to Colonel Mustang quickly, and hopefully Renji wouldn't take too long to meet her...

Jogging along quietly, she continued on.

It did feel a little warmer when he stepped out of the bathroom, but Guy still wasn't at ease. With the dark, enclosed feeling of the hallway, he had to admit that his concern was less on lurking females and more on skulking monsters. It had been easier to not worry about it when he hadn't yet encountered one, but since last night, he knew the reality of things.

He almost wanted to run into something else, though, just so that he and Jade could get an idea of what they were capable of together. Fear of the unknown was one of the more bothersome phobias, after all.

But Guy was a little sick of fear in general, really. With a sigh, he glanced back at Jade, trying to see unaffected and accustomed. "So, where do you want me to lead us next?"

"Why yes, my joints are so sore that I feel like I’m going to collapse any second." And yet Jade walked about as fluidly as ever, giving a good amount of space between himself and Guy as they meandered back out into the hallway. The heaviness was just as strong as ever, but the Colonel was more prepared and thus more adapted than earlier that night.

"It would be best that we take a closer look at every area we wind up in, starting with this one." The traffic was close to none by the time they made it back out, so this gave him plenty of space to hug the walls for anything peculiar.

So Jade thought that there might be something of note even in the hallway? It seemed like if there was something like that, someone would have noticed it by now, but on the other hand, most of the patients probably didn't pay all that much attention to the hallways.

There was no leading to be done just yet, then. Guy twisted his flashlight in his hand, using it to scan the walls and even the ceiling, looking for anything out of place or even a discoloration that might indicate something was being hidden. He started knocking lightly against the walls to check if there was any difference in sound from place to place to indicate that an area was hollow.

So far, there was nothing out of the ordinary.

One could never be sure to assume that something was already taken until one had proved it themselves, or at least, this was what he thought as he looked about the hallway. To his misfortune, the area looked as dull and drab as ever, leaving the brunet to sigh quietly before straightening.

"It seems as if there's nothing of value here." Which was a shame, but the whole Institute seemed to convey this reoccurring theme. Nonetheless, it was time to move to another section of the block if they were to get anything done.

"Guy, would you lead us to the F1-F10 Hallway?" Jade spoke, all the while motioning his hand towards said hallway.

"Yes sir," Guy said jokingly in response to Jade's request, lowering his flashlight to his side. It was a little weird that the colonel already knew which hallway was which, but he was the sort of man that soaked up every detail. Sometimes Guy thought it was just so he could appear to know more than everyone else.

Still, it was good to have someone like that on their side, he figured.

So with that, he made his way in the indicated direction.
