Well well... it seemed like Professor Washu had only two more patients to go for this week's assignments. Just two more, and normally, Washu would be happy with that; meant she could go back to her home and her lab, and get some useful productive work done. But on the other hand, the fact that there wasn't any such productive work to be done here goaded the wild-haired doctor. She should have been solving all sorts of problems by now, and yet the stubborn little patients refused to be treated!

Not that this would stop the professor, of course. It just meant that, starting next week, she'd have to take more... drastic measures.

Oh, she could hardly restrain a really good cackle at the thought~!

Data... that was what she was missing from her findings! Cold, hard data! In a way, Professor Washu felt like she should kick herself for making such an amateurish mistake. Normally, for her, gathering data and synthesizing it was as natural as breathing, a simple process that almost went without thinking. Indeed, it was nearly ingrained; which meant that she'd clearly been taken off-guard by the Institute.

But no longer. Data would be amassed, and then she could start the process over again. Back to basics; even for a mad genius scientist, the most profound truths could only be uncovered by the most elegantly simple of actions!

Sometimes, even someone like Professor Hakubi Washu just plain had a bad day. One of those days where she just didn't want to do anything, where it seemed like the world was dull and gray and undeserving of her genius. Some days she just wanted to roll over in bed and go right back to sleep, or at least go no further than whatever mad laboratory the mad scientist might possess. Yes, some days there just was no reason to expend any effort on those who weren't going to like it, and when even the brightest mind amongst the other doctors was a dim bulb compared to her- in her humble opinion, of course- it could get so very tiring to get up and bash her head against the wall. Today, instead of her normal cheerful self, perhaps she'd be out of sorts, dispirited, unenthusiastic, melancholy, apathetic to the world and especially to the patients who put her through such endless misery...

...of course not! Professor Washu was always at the top of her game, and today? Game on!

So, the previous expeditions into the uncharted realm of insane minds had provided only a few very small clues, and only some tiny gains- if that. Still, Professor Washu remained undaunted in the sanctuary of her galactic-scaled moodscape. Compared to the mind that could chart such an unimaginable expanse, what was an asylum full of people who clearly needed help? Oh no, this li'l genius was far from being done! Onward, for science!

Another round of work. This was just a tiny bit worrisome to Professor Hakubi Washu, world-renowned genius and master of practically every science known to mankind. This marked around a month's worth of work for her; a month in which she hadn't managed to crack even one mind open like an egg and turned the crazy inside sunny-side-up! This was practically intolerable! She should have made some amazing progress, some fascinating discovery into the depths of the twisted minds! But not even a single strident advance? That just wasn't like her.

As a result, the moodscape of her office was set in the depths of the Milky Way galaxy, the office seemingly set in the middle of a vast array of stars, nebulae, meteors, and other wonders of the galaxy. A bit overwhelming to the eye, but she preferred it that way; it helped her keep things in perspective. And it was the only venue that could contain her pardonable ego. Ah well... she'd just have to keep working! While her genius was usually 99% inspiration and 1% perspiration, she'd tweak those ratios if she had to!

All right, just one more patient before Washu could go ahead and go home, where she could do all of her best thinking! It had been a long and arduous week, one with many setbacks and far fewer advances than the genius scientist was used to, but that just meant that her delayed success was going to be even sweeter as a result!

She had her copy of "Nia's" file on her desk, the moodscape set once more to a peaceful jungle with insect chirps and bird calls and so forth, and the doctor found herself tapping her chin thoughtfully as she read on. There was a pattern here, something that tied all of the patients together and explained the sudden influx... the only question was what that pattern could be. What could it be...?

[Unexpectedly waiting for a date with MuRaki]

One down and one more to go before the long weekend hit. Jizabel thought it would be best if Dr. Disraeli left the confines of his office to be social once again. He couldn't very well learn anything of his fellow peers if he stayed in his office all the time, and besides that his last venture to the Patio had proven an entertaining experience. Perhaps Professor Washu would like to dance across her tabletop this time. Or at the very least she could shout at the sky once more for effect.

No one greeted him as he exited into the open air proving him as the first to arrive. He could very well be the last to leave as well should no one else show up. They were free to go and come as they pleased between sessions, and the remaining doctors could just as well take their lunch break indoors. Jizabel, however, preferred the clean feel of the open air to the stuffy room that was his office. He preferred it to any interior of a building crafted by man, seeing the sky without anything to obstruct the view. Just as nature had intended.

Okay, there was just a tiny little bit of a problem. Namely, there was something odd about the blood sample Washu had taken, and that conundrum had occupied all of Washu's thoughts. Even now she was staring at the test tube in her hand, just a bit of red liquid at the bottom, and every now and again she glanced to the open laptop on the desk's surface.

It was so engrossing that she'd forgotten to turn on her Moodscape Projector, leaving the walls a blank gray instead of the usual fantastic atmosphere. As a matter of fact, she wasn't even aware that she was due for a patient any second...

Back in the saddle after a rather solitary lunch; it was just like back in the Academy! Washu tapped her chin as she looked at the file of her next patient, someone who had his own rather interesting mixture of problems. Rather sad how someone so intelligent had wound up here, but normal people rarely could understand how closely genius and madness were intertwined.

Washu knew only too well. She liked hopping across the line on a regular basis, just to see what happened.

Ah well. The jungle moodscape, and Professor Hakubi Washu, awaited!

Hm... seemed like it was going to be double-duty today. Two patients up front, and then after that, one more. Not that she minded, she really didn't, but it was frustrating to be unloaded on with new experiments when she hadn't yet fully gone through the other ones. Genius was best when focused! No wonder there were always new patients coming in, if the old ones weren't cured!

If this kept up, Washu would have to try something new. For now, though... the scenic walls were of a beautiful jungle, complete with bird warbling and a gentle breeze. Er... well, the movement of branches and things that would, in fact, indicate a breeze. But she hadn't had time to install anything to make the experience more immersive. Not when she still had that sample from yesterday to finish analyzing...

Lunch had definitely been an interesting encounter. Maggie was in need of a little encouragement about the wonders of science, and those two others needed a little lesson in how to properly go about getting their answers, but all in all the new batch wasn't disappointing.

But now it was time to get back to work. Humming to herself as she waited for the next patient to come in, Washu sat down in her chair and cracked open the file. It seemed that her next subject patient seemed to be normal, other than thinking that his name was 'Kyon'. Hm... okay, so what made him go 'round the bend, and what could be done to solve it?

With a low giggle, Washu began plotting. It was time... for science!

Maggie was alone by the time she got to the staff area, but it didn't bother her much. Aside from the lunch she packed, her hands were busy carrying her patient files- since the last meeting didn't go exactly as planned, it would most likely be to her benefit to review the notes a while longer. It was a bit work-a-holic of her, but that image never stopped her before.

After getting everything situated and in a cohesive order, she took to munching quietly on some chips and reading along. The lives these people made up... Either they were seriously creative, obsessed, or unfortunately under the influence of some horrible traumas.

Another go-round, and this time, even more patients than before. Not that Professor Washu really minded, but she was also... rather disappointed as well. There had been one patient that had sparked something, an idea that had just been at the tip of her mind... but he was gone now, and that was too bad.

For now, she just kept the picture of him on her desk, and set the photomorphic moodscape walls to a distant galaxy. When her patients would step in, they'd find themselves, it would seem, in a free-floating doctor office with blazing stars and comets (all completely true-to-life and in real time) all around them. Some might consider it a little distracting, but for Washu? It was science! What could possibly be bad about that?

One last round before a bit of a break. But in contrast to her usual bright and sunny personality, Washu was far more subdued than normal. Gunshots being fired? And everything else that was going on? Sounded like something was fishy, though for the life of her Washu didn't know what that something could be.

For now, however, it was time to do her job, and she'd do it, no matter the difficulties. A genius could afford nothing less.

Washu was... a little distracted today. Her little office-improvement project wasn't moving forward much at all. Oh no. Instead, Washu seemed rather... distraught. Rather distraught. Very. Excessively.

Which mostly translated itself in her flailing about in her room, clenching her head and bewailing her fate. "Argh, those two! That's a highly sensitive piece of equipment, they can't just wave it around! Am I going to have to give them an instruction manual just so they can figure it out! Argh! My genius is being squandered! And they can't even provide useful data!?"

Yes, it seemed like a classic case of the inmates running the asylum...

Well! The previous patients hadn't gone so well, but did that dampen Washu's spirits in the least? Of course not! She was a genius, and she hadn't even begun to hit her stride! She'd handle every last patient that came through that door, just wait!

The doctor was still in, baby!

...and the doctor was also intensely busy with trying to work on the walls. If anything, the destruction was even more wide-spread and unsightly than it had been the previous shift. More gashes in the wall, more wires spewed out on the floor, and now a strange film-like substance was covering one of the near walls, that film a vibrant pink not unlike the color of Washu's hair.

Technical glitches. They'd be hammered out. ...perhaps literally.

Ah hah hah...

Ah hah hah...

Ah hah hah hah ha~!

Doctor Washu, the greatest scientific mind in the universe, was on the right track! The white surface of the wall was scored with countless marks from Washu's power tools, and wires spilled out like entrails from the gouges she'd ripped into the poor walls. But it was all for the sake of science; you didn't get a photo-optic realization moodscape without breaking a few eggs, to paraphrase.

And somehow, it seemed rather unlikely that any 'real' therapy was going to get done.

All right... after a nice full lunch and consulting her notes, Dr. Washu was ready to go. She still didn't have her photo-optic walls ready, but that would come in time. Maybe as a pet project later.

For now, though, she needed to focus on her patients. The previous consultation had gone wonderfully! Obviously some progress had been made, and now that she was on a roll nothing could slow her down!

The pink-haired doctor giggled as she got both the files and her equipment ready. Dr. Hakubi Washu was in.

Well! It seemed like none of her inventions had grown legs and walked away, and neither had any of the furniture been fooled around with. Washu always felt a little bit of distrust to the staff; what if they ruined her inventions with their blundering? What if the course of science was irrevocably ruined because some janitor thought her piles of tools were just garbage!?

...and how could anyone think that it was garbage? That was technology at its finest!

With a sigh, Washu flopped into her chair and leaned back to a comfortable position, green eyes focused on the door as she waited. She'd let Doctor Wilson know that she wanted to talk to him, and hopefully he'd be prompt; after the therapy sessions she'd been putting her phenomenal genius to work, and now it was time for 'consultation'.

"What I need," she muttered to herself after a moment, instantly losing patience for just waiting around, "is to make that photo-optic planar terrain visualizer. White's way too drab."

Washu... was feeling down. No real progress on her patients, and that nice boy had called her- her, Washu the Greatest Genius in the Universe!- a terrible person! Why couldn't they see the glories of science? Why didn't they believe her when she pointed the way to a better way of life? Maybe... maybe her science wasn't enough. Maybe it took more than genius to save someone. "...maybe I'm not cut out for this after all?"

As if on cue, two little dolls of Washu, one with an 'A' on its belt and the other with a little 'B', popped up on her shoulders, waving vaguely humanoid arms and cheering her on. A shouted, "Don't give up, Washu!"

B seemed in complete agreement. "They need you, Washu!"

Then, in unison, both announced, "Only the great genius Washu can help them~!"

And just like that, Washu was back to her normal self. "You're right, as always! The greatest scientific mind can't give in after just a couple of setbacks! Bring on the next patients, Doctor Hakubi Washu is in!"

...heaven help those poor patients...
