Day 53: Sun Room

When the intercom came on to announce the shift change, the feeling of dread returned. Anise had calmed down considerably since the morning, and she felt more ready to discuss the previous night with Ilia... but not as ready as she wanted to be.

Since the Music Room was bound to be noisy and crowded, Anise opted for the Sun Room instead, hoping that Ilia would come to the same conclusion. She took a seat on one side of a couch in the middle of the room, and waited there. If Ilia didn't show up after a while, she'd go try the Music Room.

Even though this talk had been on her mind all day, Anise still didn't know what she would say. And if she explained the truth behind her shadow's words last night... what would Ilia think? On the one hand, Ilia had shown herself to be a compassionate person, and it was hard to picture her treating Anise differently. But on the other hand, Anise hadn't known Ilia that long... and Ilia was a soldier. She would understand the gravity of Anise's actions, and the sorts of consequences that usually waited for people like her.

With these worries weighing on her mind, Anise leaned against the arm of the couch as she waited.

[For Ilia.]

[.......Your late is NOTHING compared to my late...APOLOGIES, BB DX]

When Kanda had heard the words Music Room, he had absolutely dug his heels in. This place was irritating enough without all the added noise a bunch of idiots trying to play musical instruments would doubtless generate. And an hour+ of that sort of noise...he didn't have the patience for that.

Maybe the nurse recognised this, and decided that the Sun Room would be good enough. However-- "Don't let me catch you sulking in a corner the way you did last time, Katou. You have to talk to people and make friends, or it'll be a lot harder for you to get better." Kanda just snorted and rolled his eyes in response, shaking her off on entering the Sun Room and going over look at the bulletin board Kairi had mentioned.

There was already someone there, a tall blonde man; Kanda gave him a brief glance, then turned most of his attention to the board, still keeping half an eye on the other man out of habit.

[pff we can be fail together then BB ♥]

It wasn't long before another patient showed up for the very same thing and started going through some of the other notes. He bid the newcomer a wave and a smile, as was his usual, though the young man in front of him could certainly rival Kurogane for cheeriest disposition.

"Hey! I don't think I've met you before. New here?" he tried, offering his hand to the other, "I'm Fai D. Flourite, but you can just call me Fai if you like."

Most of the notes looked either pretty old or were nearly illegible, though a few of the newer ones had only obscure scrawls on them that Kanda had no way of interpreting. There was a fairly recent note with Kairi's name on it though, so that must be something to do with her "club"...though the Exorcist wasn't certain he cared to know anything more, much less join up with that group just yet. Mason's offer and "plan", basic though it was, had seemed much more straightforward...

When the man beside him spoke up, Kanda turned his head to give him a cool, regarding look. His eyes flicked down to the outstretched hand then back up, but he made no move to take it--his right arm was in a sling, but even if it hadn't been, that wouldn't have changed his response in the least.

Ugh. Another friendly one. Kairi's attitude had been genuine and pretty reserved, so it hadn't riled Kanda all that much; but this guy...something about that smile (and the wave in particular, as if they weren't standing two feet apart at the most!) made his eye twitch.

"Kanda," was all he offered in response, turning his gaze back to the bulletin board, irritably flicking through another couple notes and trying to decide if any of this was even worth bothering.

So Kanda wasn't a hand-shaker. He was a turn-and-glare...er. As rarely as someone ought to have a similar temperament to Kurogane, he sure seemed to run into that sort of... type quite a bit. Either Kanda was just like this all the time or he was having a really bad day. Maybe both.

When his hand went ignored, he gave the other a friendly clap on the shoulder instead, smile never wavering. If nothing else, he seemed like the sort that was fun to tease.

"Kanda! Now that's a new one. Haven't heard it before. Not even on the bulletin," he replied, taking his hand back so he could rest it thoughtfully under his chin. "But I'm surprised you're taking this all so well! No questions, no worries, you know- most people are a little more upset on their first few days here. Maybe it just hasn't hit you quite yet."

[identity profile] doyoustillsee.livejournal.com 2010-12-15 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Kanda tensed at the shoulder-pat--not only because it was right on some of those bandaged wounds from last night, but because this guy was touching him why was this guy touching him he'd break his arms if he did it again. (Except..here he probably couldn't, could he, and the orderlies would be on him in an instant if he tried anything and dammit he hated this place.)

"What's the point in asking an idiot questions?" he growled, glaring full-force now, the bulletin board all but forgotten. "And getting upset won't change anything."

[aojrk;elajrkle *fails forever* sorry this week has been utter fail. D:]

So prickly! It was almost cute. He only smiled in response to the glares he was receiving, not at all bothered by them. Kanda was something though, not to be bothered or at least, not showing anyone that he was bothered by this place. That in itself was kind of impressive. Hopefully he'd be able to stay strong through everything this place would throw his way.

"That's true, getting upset won't change much, but sometimes it does make you feel better," he laughed in reply, ignoring the insult. "But if you do decide you have some questions, I'll do my best to answer them. Or if you need a shoulder to cry on, that's okay too!"

[No no, no apologies necessary, I hear ya...8|;;]

This guy--with the constant talking and too-cheerful-sounding tone and touchy-feely-ness--this guy almost reminded him of--

The Exorcist's mind jerked back away from that line of thought, from the memory of that person. As much as he pushed it aside and ignored it, it--he--was something (someone) Kanda had never really gotten over, and after everything his shadow had said last night... It was like having a scab peeled off when a cut was still new enough to bleed a little; maybe not as much as it had before, and maybe the injury was a little smaller, but it hadn't healed yet either.

...And of course, as usual, the emotion Kanda showed in response to everything he wouldn't admit he felt over those memories was anger.

"Shut the hell up! As if I'd cry over something like this! And why would I come to you anyway--I don't even know who the hell you are!"

The blonde had introduced himself, sure, but knowing a name wasn't the same as knowing a person...though in this case, just knowing this guy's name was proving to be enough of an annoyance.

Finally, something of a reaction. It was no good to keep that all bottled up inside, at any rate, so whether it was directed at him or the institution, either was fine. Besides, it was kind of amusing too.

"Don't be silly Kanda, how would I know if you like to cry a lot or not, we just met!" he shrugged innocently. "But I'm sure once we become good friends, we'll get to know each other better! Remember, I'm Fai. I just told you that one! Maybe you should repeat it a few times if you're having trouble with it."

It was followed with a smile and a tone of friendly reproach. Nothing to show that Kanda's angry words had the slightest effect on him. Perhaps it was selfish, teasing someone just to pass the time, but when they were as wound up as Kanda was, how could he resist?
