Nightshift 23: Second floor; east wing, near railed area

[[From here]]

This space. All around him, emptiness. Even his hushed, near-silent footsteps boomed with echo in the emptiness of the corridor; he stopped dead and listened hard.

There was something. Something moving along the corridor, slowly, regular. A scrape, like a wounded man dragging an injured leg. And he could feel something too - feel it, the heat in this cold space...

He gripped his pipe tightly, and ran as quietly as he could towards the nearest wall, bracing his body against it.

Was it coming closer?

Claire pulled the hot poker out with little fuss and was ready to attack, but was thrown off by the other woman's sudden mood change. What was wrong with her? Was this some kind of trick?

In either case, Wesker had far more combat experience than she, so Claire moved back a little, hot poker gripped in her hand, waiting for Wesker to make his move first. It would be better if she waited for an opening than getting in his way.

He let out another hiss as Claire pulled the metal from his back, wincing. At least she was armed again, and the woman didn't have it.

Wesker was put slightly off-balance at the sudden, drastic change. She was now pointing out that he was bleeding, from an injury she herself had inflicted, and suggesting he bandaged it.

It was also apparently cleaning time? She had to be insane, and very clearly not human judging by whatever that was oozing out of her wounds. He merely nodded slightly turning like he was simply going to walk off.

"Of course, I'll take care of it right away. Let's go, Claire."

Of course, in the middle of his step he spun back around, hoping his little trick of pretending to give up the fight would give him enough of an advantage as he brought his leg around, low to the ground, to kick her legs out from under her.

Crack.

The sound echoed through the halls as the maid went down, crashing to the floor and obviously with an injury to at least one ankle.

However, grounded as she was, Daniella tilted her face up towards the two patients and smiled.

Claire had an opening - she was going to take it. As fast as she could, Claire thrust the poker down, aiming straight at the woman's middle.

Wesker had been about to make a follow-through attack when Claire attacked with the poker, he was surprised to see her do that to an opponent that clearly could not, or would not, defend herself.

Instead he held his knife at the ready, just in case.

Rukia didn't know what was going on, but she couldn't just stand by when there was a fight going on. She had only just met Claire, but the girl seemed nice; Rukia couldn't not help her. Besides, Renji would never forgive her if she didn't at least find out what was going on. Rukia was suddenly reminded of River's words from earlier, but she shook them off as she ran up to the group.

Rukia got a better look at the woman on the floor; that was definitely thick, pink fluid oozing from her wounds. Both Claire and the man seemed about to attack her, so Rukia stayed a few feet back. "Claire! Are you okay?" she asked, unsure of whose side she should be on.

Rangiku approached the group quickly, holding the knife firmly in her hands and eyeing the woman on the floor warily. She slipped between Claire, Rukia and the fallen woman, frowning at the sight of the pink stuff. She looked up and nodded at the man close by before pointing the knife steadly at the fallen woman. She was floored, but that didn't mean she wasn't still dangerous.
