Night 51: M-C Block Hallway

[From here]

Now where had Knives said her room was? Scott reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the crumpled napkin she had written the number on at breakfast. F30. Okay. Assuming the girls' block worked the same way the guys' one did and wasn't some alternate dimensional maze that only people with boobs (twitch) would understand, Scott was pretty sure he could find the right room.

"What?" He was honestly confounded by her belief. "You don't. You never have-"

Speed might not have been his forte anymore, but the vampire was on his feet and in front of Bella once he'd heard the beginnings of the door working its way open, muscles already clenched tightly, ready to threaten whatever came through the door. The emergence of blood-soaked wood only readied him further; the calm conversation he had been having with Bella was completely forgotten for the moment. The calm had been replaced with dormant violence, until Edward saw the man that followed the bat into the room.

Knocking wasn't a very necessary formality for him, not really. But with that sort of entrance? He would have very much preferred it.

As Venom had guessed, Edward didn't like the offer of a weapon to Bella - especially considering what that child the other day had used a baseball bat for. But he couldn't voice his concerns, not as chilled as he was by the thought of what they were doing already. Monster hunting? Bad enough. But Edward wasn't stupid. Leaving her defenseless would have been completely moronic.

He'd had to accept he couldn't protect her alone.

The radio was a much less startling sound than the slow creaking of the door; the message, while somewhat subtle, wasn't much so. Venom seemed caught up in an organized hurricane once the message had been completely told - Edward had to give him credit for how quickly he could realign plans and form new pathways and objectives.

He was intelligent, too. Intelligent enough to leave without waiting for an answer, which forced Edward's answer more or less. He looked back at Bella with a crooked, uneasy smile, attempting to apologize for Venom's behavior as best he could. "It seems a good idea to me," he held out a hand, requesting her opinion on the idea. "Shall we?"

It seemed that would, because she didn't hesitate in taking his hand and following the assassin outside. An assassin who, surprising even a telepath, was almost concerned.

"Fine," was his answer. "You're not going to slow down for us, are you?"

Apparently not, because he was already going through the door into the conjoining hallway.
