Night 47: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

( from here. )

So far, so good. Kairi tried to move as quietly as she could, not wanting to attract any kind of baddies that could be lurking in the shadows. ... And lest she forget actually crazy patients. Then again, she doubted she'd ever forget that incident.

Oh well, she was almost there. No time to think about past injuries.

Keman was, admittedly, better off being alone tonight than he had been two nights ago, back when he thought he was Calvin. "Calvin" hadn't had the luxury of magic to defend himself with. Keman's magelight followed him wherever he went, negating the need for a flashlight and keeping some of the smaller beasties away.

Now if only he had somewhere to go.

Howl put on an air of casualness as he walked the halls, as if he were a professional at being locked in a twisted madhouse. It wasn't the most flattering thing, when you gave it a name like that, but the building had become somewhat monotonous. He was still frightened enough, but he had found little to be frightened of. Besides the threat of remaining here for the rest of eternity, of course. (He stopped himself from imagining the one glimpse of a monster that he had gotten. Dislocated jaw, sharpened teeth, and feral eyes.)

Even the sight of a floating globe of light was familiar. Howl smiled when he further recognized the head of curly hair, silhouetted by the magic. Keman.

"And where are you off to, young man?" he questioned cheerfully. Howl suspected he had probably said that exact same thing to Neil and Michael before. Both of them had probably shown some exasperation; Niel was just much more obvious about it. Michael would have likely expected Howl to give him another assignment or chore. Or, more likely, to have Howl announce he would be gone for several days to woo the love of his life. "You're not lost, are you?"

So far, so good. Nothing had leaped out to attack him yet, and there seemed to be some people milling about in case of a surprise monster attack. Not that Chekov thought anything would automatically attack him.

However, it was true his luck hadn't been so good today. He'd faced a veritable cornucopia of unavoidable trouble during the day, why would that stop anytime soon?

He took a look at the door leading to the female holding block and continued on.

Almost to the staircase. The first checkpoint. He could probably make it to the chemical storage unhindered if he just made it to the staircase, but that was really just wishful thinking. On the contrary, Rolo was sure that he was going to run into something that would hinder him, just like every other goddamned night.

He took a deep breath, and continued forward. Heavy, angry breathing would attract attention.

When Scott got to the end of the hall, he raised his flashlight up to the sign above the last door on his right. Success! He had found a block that started with F instead of M! Good job, Scott! Now turn the page! Scott wasn't sure exactly why he had phrased that particular thought that particular way, but didn't much care. He made his way through to the block with a grin on his face, very eager to reach his destination.

A few more people still lingered in this wider hallway but Aigis could just barely make out their shapes in the darkness. She did hear their voices of course but their conversations held no interest for her. A quick scan, as good a glance down the dark corridor could provide, reassured her that if Shadows were near they at least were staying hidden for now. Perhaps they would only come out during the Dark Hour, but the tense atmosphere this place held gave her pause to wonder.

This time she actually had a choice in which direction to proceed. Left or right. At a loss now that her visibility was severely limited, Aigis just took a guess and kept to the right...

And their slow walk down the hallway was similarly uneventful. Ema found that she really didn't have much to say unless Agatha initiated conversation; mostly she was in pain, and she figured whining was a great way to lose respect. The tears had been bad enough.

"At least it's not far." Agathe didn't have much to say, either, but to her the silence just seemed wrong. It wasn't really a desire to remind herself that Ema was still there, the pained breathing and hand on her shoulder were obvious demonstrations of that. It just... didn't seem appealing, to be silent, and it wasn't as if they were sneaking anywhere.

He had already gone some distance, and yet his flashlight beam had yet to illuminate any familiar figures from Arts and Crafts. They couldn't already all be there, could they? In any case, Kratos picked up the pace. He was almost there.

The first few steps were... tentative, at best. With one hand gently cupping the wound and the other holding the flashlight, the vampire made his way down the hallway, staying close to the wall. It hurt, but it was manageable.

But he was impatient, trying not to worry himself sick with this idiotic plan of Bella's. And there it was - her scent. Lucky. But she was long gone, and the trail was almost cold; he wouldn't have even caught it if he wasn't so intune to it.

When he moved more quickly down the hall, a split second of pain shot through his legs. He muffled his groan with his sleeve.

There were still no signs of any weird, crazy monsters or anything running around, and Niikura really was starting to wonder if someone had actually tricked him on that one. But that still wouldn't explain why many of the people he passed by were carrying things that he'd definitely never found in his room. Maybe these halls were designed to lull you into a false sense of security? In that case, he'd have to keep his guard up; being a newcomer, he had no idea where to expect the danger level to suddenly spike.

It felt like ages since they had traveled together. Had long had it been, really? In between sleeping and not being herself... There was something delicate, something almost awkward in the moment. Senna paused, looking down the hall. And would it be the same each night after, a simple path leading to the same place and the same empty questions without any answers?

"Hey," the girl said. "We're going to see if going through the greenhouse is any faster. There's usually too much going on on the rec field, anyway." She glanced back. "That seem okay?"

[identity profile] sheisthecause.livejournal.com 2010-02-18 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Not going through the rec field did sound like a good idea to Meche; she hadn't forgotten the night a car had been out there. Better to keep the risks to a minimum, especially since it was just the three of them.

"Fine with me," she agreed. "It's worth a try, at least, especially if we're going to be coming out here a lot."

The Doctor didn't see any sign of Donna here, even after shining the torch around to see if she was any of the people passing through this part of the hall. He would just have to wait it out and hope for the best.

He took up a position against the wall across from the door to the female block, setting the radio down by his feet. He leaned against the wall and slipped his free hand into the pocket of his trousers, keeping an eye out for his ginger friend.

[identity profile] mateswithnobody.livejournal.com 2010-02-18 04:36 am (UTC)(link)
By the time Donna had gotten to dinner, she'd hoped to have straightened Arlene out at least a little bit. That woman hadn't been one Donna would have thought would sulk, but she'd definitely been wrong before. Not often, but she still had.

Meche didn't get an earful about that whole mess though since Donna had been late in getting back to her room. Just as she'd started to eat, it was time to go. Good, she wasn't all that hungry anyway, especially since she'd eaten her fill of the real lunch food. And she wanted to get thing done quickly, so all for the better. Grabbing her usual coat she headed out. Arlene was probably off running around instead of sulking, or at least Donna hoped she was after their little talk, so she decided not to go see how he friend was doing. Also, with Meche leaving before her, Donna had no real plans for the night or people to meet up with. Hadn't stopped her before though.

"Least the hallways'll never change on you," she muttered absently as she came to the door leading out of the women's block. Flashlight ahead of her, she entered the next hallway.

And her touch certainly was. It wasn't working any particular miracles, but he never denied it if she offered (unless, of course, it was attached to a seducing.)

"Should we go to my room?" he asked after the turned the corners back to the patient blocks. Somehow, he felt better already. Not less pained, but moderately safer. "I wouldn't want to impose on your insane roommate, if she's still there." The darkness was not so wide and the hallways were more heavily populated here. And - though he did not believe it entirely - the patient rooms were supposedly safe, according to the anonymous writings on the bulletin board. It wasn't much, but he would take it.

And some rest. That sounded wonderful, too.

Bella sighed and frowned at his admittance of being angry, turning her head to roll her eyes. "I helped you at night, remember? I could have helped you this time too."

At Edward's second round of comments, she pressed herself closer to his side, At least appeased by the fact that he said her help was comforting (whatever that meant.) "And I didn't mean to make you worry and ... angry. I know you think I can't do these things and that I shouldn't, but I just wanted to help you, and I knew I could do it. I don't want you to worry about me as badly as you do, especially when we're both in the same situation." He was practically as weak was she was, and yet he was still panicking over her well being instead of his own.

Some things never changed, really.

"At least this time you're speaking to me instead of simply growling," Bella teased him, a sheepish smile crossing he face.

At the mention of her roommate, the teenager frowned and shrugged her shoulders. "Your room, maybe? Since I don't know if my roommate left or not, and I'm sure you'd rather rest in privacy then having yet another redhead watch over you when you least expect it."

So Riku wasn't going to fully commit to the club yet, then. Sora tried not to be bothered by that, but he would have liked if they could all agree to work together, just once. What was his friend going to do instead of helping them out, anyway? Sora knew that Arts and Crafts hadn't actually accomplished anything revolutionary so far, but neither had any of the other groups—as far as he could tell, that is.

Still, they were together for tonight, and so Sora was just going to focus on the task at hand. He stayed close to the other two while also giving them enough room to move without bumping into each other all the time.

As Kairi mentioned where her room was, Sora glanced over to the door that led into the female block and nodded. He missed when she had been F7, since they'd matched, but he made sure to commit this new number to memory.

"Oh! Well, I'm in M7 still," he said as they worked their way down the hallway. Now he just had to cross his fingers and hope that Riku had remembered his number. If not, then his friend was just going to have to check for it next time.

There was nothing out of the ordinary so far, although the amount of traffic said that Ayumu had spent more time on her preparations than she had meant to. Of course, she'd already realized that time flowed oddly in this place; what seemed like only a minute to her could in truth be more than that, and that was a fact that profoundly disturbed her. When she couldn't even be certain of the orderly flow of time it left her on shaky ground indeed.

This wasn neither the time nor the place for fretting about such matters, though, and after a wary moment to survey the hall she continued on. North, this time, into the block of rooms she had yet to explore. Not that it was likely to be any different than the other two, but still.

How she hated this. Even with him gone, she was still pursuing the one case that would pull her apart from the only family she had left in this place. That infuriating former prosecutor was gone, Miles was gone, and knowing her luck, she'd be left behind and upstaged again if that idiot lawyer had anything to say about it. Which left the detective (who was likely going to do something phenomenally stupid like going to look for Miles soon enough), that red-haired witch, and her father. Who she was soon enough going to pin for attempted murder.

Tonight was just...annoying and Franziska gripped the leash a little tighter, hearing the leather creak in her fingers. It was good at Gumshoe was carrying the box or she might have thrown it at him in her frustration. "Keep up, Detective, or I will make you move faster."

'Cept she was going north instead, the way she'd gone that night she'd met the strange Mr. Spock and that constantly grumpy Venom.

Hopefully tonight she wouldn't zombie out, get knocked out, and try to bite someone. That would actually be greeeat! Though, she was glad for that night, even now.
