Night 46: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

Beatrix had walked this path to the Sun Room so many times, she could do it in complete darkness. Which was exactly what she was doing. Knowing the way, there was little need for light as it would only draw creatures and other unwanted attention. Silently counting her steps, at the right number, the assassin headed left and down the hallway.

It was still quiet when she stepped out into the main hallway, the beam of her light shaking slightly. It'd been a long time since she'd made this journey all on her own. She could appreciate much more the comfort that came with making it with a friend.

The next hall wasn't far, so she tip-toed quickly, trying to stay aware of her surroundings as she turned down the next hall.

Teresa reached the base of the stairwell she'd indicated in her note to Giovanni and turned back to wait. Silver reflected in her eyes as the light from the flashlight's beam illuminated the immediate area around her. She did not know who this Giovanni was, but this particular spot was not one she'd noted as being a common meeting place.

The hybrid was one for brutal efficiency. This man had better arrive quickly. Teresa was not one for waiting.

No one in sight when she arrived. Good. Sakura smirked inwardly. She wouldn't be bested so easily! Not even for something as simple as the joy of being able to ask Raphael "what took you so long?" Sakura might not be the greatest fighter in her team, but when things got competitive, she didn't just roll over and let anyone take her spotlight. She could prove just how hard she'd worked to get where she was too! And when he got a load of her actual ninja clothing and saw how serious she was, maybe the brat would start treating her seriously too!

The previous hall might have been empty, but apparently this one was not. Ayumu had often noted people stopping to speak in this area, so that was hardly unexpected, but it still made her silent passage a bit more challenging. She carefully adjusted her hold on the bag she was carrying, making certain it stayed silent, while at the same time balanced the wrapped piece of cake in her other hand without squashing it, and concentrated on what she could see and hear in an effort to establish just where the others were in the hall.

Once she decided she had a clear path, Ayumu started to move on, careful and quiet in the darkness.

After another stupid, boring hallway, Raph hit the main hall and slowed down, keeping to the shadows while he scanned the area. He was supposed to meet Pinky (he knew her name was Sakura now, but thought Pinky suited her better until he could think of something more annoying) near a staircase--

Aww hell. She'd beaten him there and probably wasn't going to let him live that down. (The fact that he'd been planning to do the exact same thing was irrelevant right now.) He was pretty certain she hadn't seen him just yet, but Raph only had a couple of seconds to work with until then if she was a good a ninja as she claimed. He'd have to think of something to save face fast. Fortunately growing up with The High And Mighty Leonardo had gotten him used to that.

He slipped out of the shadows and shot Pinky an annoyed look. "What, you gonna stand there all night? We got a job to do, so let's go already."

Unfortunately this hallway did have humans in it, and in response he felt the inside of his throat erupt in flames. He continued to keep to the wall in order to avoid them.

Emmett remembered that this was the way he and Morgan had went right before they found Edward and Bella. He couldn't smell he brother in the near vicinity this time, so he kept moving.

A few people were already hanging around the main hall when S.T. got there. A statuesque blonde with a sword that had to be taller than she was. Using a flashlight as a personal spotlight. S.T. avoided eye contact. Same for the guy and a girl trying to out-asshole each other. Possibly flirting.

Whatever. Plenty of room to dodge by and head for the near stairs.

As von Karma reached the intersection, he looked in both directions to gauge his safety. Hmph. More people. Three young women and a ruffian. They all seemed to be minding their own business, but he still could ill afford to take any unnecessary risks around them. Some of them were standing near the staircases, as though they were planning to go upstairs and were waiting for others to join them. If any of them were heading for the Patient Possessions Storage, as well, then he and Ms. Taura had better hurry, lest any prospective saboteurs arrive first.

Increasing his pace, he turned the corner and headed west towards the hallway leading to the female patient block.

The main hall was, as it had been the night before, already becoming more crowded with patients than the other ones. It was a good meeting location, admittedly, and if he hadn't already had a set place to meet his friends he surely would have considered it.

He had walked these halls with many Lilim that he had never seen again. This place was transient, and it was enough to make Kaworu feel like a ghost. Otacon, Sean, Shinji, all the same with that same smile that made him feel warm, coming in and out of his life. He saw people moving through the dark hall, but he knew none of them. They would fall away from him as easily as anything else, but he didn't, couldn't expect more. He was dead.

It was not surprising that his life lacked structure. He wasn't even supposed to have it at all. It was only an imitation.

Of course she'd seen him approaching! What kind of ninja would she be if he caught her offguard with something so easy? She rolled her eyes and tried not to be annoyed by his offhand comment.

"Wouldn't have had to stand here if you'd been faster," was all she said before she led the way to the stairs. If she'd memorized the map correctly (and in her mind there was never a doubt), then the room they were looking for was almost directly above them.

"Let's get this over with," she added, maybe not as sharply as she might have said it before. She might have acknowledged that he had some skill or at least had some determination or reasoning behind his way of ninja, but he was still a brat.

Alright, he'd made it to the meeting point, but while there were several other patients, he didn't see Josh just yet. He was new to this game, but at least it wasn't as crowded as the streets of Shibuya. Sometimes just finding someone in all that mess could be a real challenge. Luckily, it wasn't like a lot of people fit Joshua's description.

"Hey," he called as he approached, raising a hand out of habit and adjusting his headphones with the other. Maybe he hadn't given Josh enough credit after all. Maybe he really was serious about this.

People. He could see people. That was definitely a good thing- monsters were less likely to jump out and attack lots of people, right? At least it meant there was more noise around, there was nothing worse than silence for stimulating an overactive imagination. Just a little way back and Kibitoshin could have sworn he'd heard spider's footsteps.

H-hah... that was crazy. What was he thinking? Spider's footsteps? That would have to be one big spider for him to have heard it at all. And that was just plain silly, of course. Spiders didn't get that big no matter what planet you were on. Hopefully.

...

... what Badou had said about the cats... that didn't apply to the spiders, right? Just because he'd maybe accidentally squashed one or washed one down a plughole, that didn't mean they'd be out for his blood as killer mutants, right? Right?

He fell back against the wall, swallowing hard. Every moment he spent here was a moment off his life expectancy- he was going to have a heart attack from sheer nervous energy if he didn't get out soon. Please don't let me be alone out here...!

Luckily for Teresa, Giovanni was even more punctual tonight than was expected of him. He made his way through the halls, finding the stairwell with relative ease - at least in comparison to the confusion he'd faced during his first night. As he approached, his flashlight caught a glint of something metal, and when he saw more clearly what it was, he couldn't help but let a smile pass over his face.

A sword taller than the both of them? Fascinating. It must have taken a great amount of strength to wield. If this was indeed his assigned partner, Giovanni couldn't wait to fight alongside her. Aah, or even against her, he mused. The thought was appealing, but he couldn't let himself get carried away when there was clearly business to attend to.

He stepped closer to her, shrinking the gap between them to about three feet, and turned his flashlight off, for the light given off by hers was more than enough. Keeping his face neutral and his body language friendly, he opened his mouth to speak.

"'Envision the stairwell we use to reach the second floor' - wasn't that what was written on the bulletin? I do hope I haven't failed the task already."

Same as last night, this place was uncommonly crowded than other halls. Not that she was the Queen of the Corridors here, having seen about four in total, but obviously there was something about this place. Or maybe it was just close enough and wide enough to accommodate people trying to meet up. But shouldn't they be doing more than just standing here? Shouldn't they be running around looking for away out or banding together to take down nurses and hold doctors for ransom so they can steal their keys or something?

Let's be proactive here, people!

Ugh, whatever. People were just stupid. She passed everyone with a scowl, seeking a section of hallway not so clogged with crazies hobbling about. She turned her flashlight off since a few others' brought enough illumination down to her. So, now which way? She hadn't gone further than this before...

[identity profile] number1smiley.livejournal.com 2010-01-04 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
If only the length of bed frame was a sword. Soon enough, though, Teresa would have her claymore.

She'd been watching the passage of others through the hallway, alert for any that would be this Giovanni she was ti work with, so she noted the man when he approached. Her lips turned up in the faintest of smiles as he spoke.

"It seems your ability to visualize has not failed you," she said, her silver eyes assessing him. "Giovanni, I presume?"

Kaworu looked up. Before his eyes even landed on the source, he found himself expecting to see someone already established in his life. He knew the voice was unfamiliar, but it was the way he had spoken. Kaworu could hear the assumption from the other side that there was already a relationship between them. It was an unusual feeling, but not altogether unpleasant; he simply felt ignorant, or left behind. Once, it had led to a strange conversation about Angels, where he and the other had found their terms belonged to different realities. The other time, the Lilim honestly had known him, without Kaworu having ever seen him before.

Regardless, he smiled airily at the other boy, and took stock of the orange hair and new features.

"Hello," Kaworu responded, and he made no effort to hide his curiosity.

Abe waited for Minato at the corner, hunched against the wall and feeling himself very vulnerable. Perhaps he could bargain for a weapon or directions to one, a sharp stick would be nicer here. In his own body he might not feel so scared--in his own body he'd be warned before the danger even arrived.

The reaction and even the body language seemed similar, so it wasn't until the boy turned and Neku got close enough that he realized it wasn't Joshua. Okay, talk about embarrassing. Well, he'd already met his own twin, or triplet, or whatever, with Sora and Roxas, so maybe this was Joshua's lookalike? Or Josh was his? Or... well, however it worked anyway.

He opened his mouth to speak, but caught offguard as he was, it was suddenly harder than he realized to find words. "..."

"Hey," he repeated, though this time it sounded more like an apology. "I thought you were someone I knew. From far away you guys look similar."

This side of the main hall was the end of the line for her as far as not needing maps went. Meche had never met this Sora, but she hoped she (or he?) had a little more experience with the basement than she did--all she'd ever heard about it were a few rumors about it being dangerous, which was the truth for just about any room in the building. And as far as she knew, Soma had never been down there either.

At least wearing her own clothes (http://www.tentakelvilla.de/grim/meche.gif) again made her feel slightly more confident. Meche found a spot by the wall and discreetly adjusted one stocking while she waited, keeping her eyes peeled for anyone with "spiky" brown hair.

...Right. He needed to focus. Now wasn't the time to worry about such things. He should be searching out any and all information he can find on this place. There had to be a records room somewhere in this building. These people had to have left evidence of their activities and true motives somewhere. How much they knew and what they did, not to mention how they've managed to do any of it. It was all out there somewhere. He had only to find where.

The main hall. In the distance Hime spotted Teresa, though talking with a man she didn't recognize. It seemed the warrior had plans this night. The Royal vaguely recalled some note indicating as much on the bulletin. Well, no matter. There were others in the institute she could work with, if they came this way as they usually did.

Taking a stand by the wall opposite the two doors leading to the patient rooms, Hime leaned back and clicked off her flashlight, waiting for now to see what prey might come.

Nigredo took a step into the main hallway--his eyes fixed on the stairwell ahead--when a wayward figure rose from the child's peripheral. He stopped upon recognition, the sword instantly going to the space behind his back.

Klavier. Or was it David? Either held a meaning Nigredo wished would stay untouched. He considered sprinting for the stairs to evade an encounter, yet he didn't want to leave the man alone. And he was alone, much like Nigredo, but in contrast to the bioweapon, Klavier was defenseless. Where was his brother, the man he so cared for?

His voice came out strangely but managed to get the message across: "What are you doing out by yourself?"
