Night 46: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

Beatrix had walked this path to the Sun Room so many times, she could do it in complete darkness. Which was exactly what she was doing. Knowing the way, there was little need for light as it would only draw creatures and other unwanted attention. Silently counting her steps, at the right number, the assassin headed left and down the hallway.

The main hallway had a few more people in it which made Tsukasa feel a little bit safer, not by much, but it was a start, right? Perhaps they'd scare away some of the monsters. He really didn't want to use his magic so early in the night before he'd even got anywhere. It left him so drained and tired and well, kind of useless. Not for the first time, he sort of wished that he'd picked a fighting class of character to play. A blademaster perhaps, or a long arm like Crim.

This was getting him nowhere. He huffed softly and then dragged himself up to his full height, trying to make himself look determined and confident, like he had a plan for the night instead of just wandering aimlessly. Yes, he had a plan! He was going som- oh who was he kidding?

Euphemia looked around the hallway - so many people here. This must be the night's big meeting spot. She didn't spot any familiar faces, though...and that was a little strange.

She didn't see the silver-haired mage in front of her until she had turned around and bumped into him. "Oh! I'm so sorry! I didn't hurt you or anything, did I? I'm sorry, I honestly didn't see you..."

"Oooph!" Tsukasa stumbled backwards a step or two as someone bumped into him and he reached up to rub his chest. It hadn't hurt exactly, just startled him. The girl looked like she should have been from The World, what with the bright pink hair and all and, oh, she was apologising. He should respond, shouldn't he? Too lost in his own thoughts and really, that was probably a dangerous thing for him.

"Uh, no, I'm fine, really," he replied with a small smile. "It is really dark in here. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often."

"Are you sure? I really didn't mean to. Though you're right, it is awfully dark in here. I wish the lights worked - or there was at least some kind of emergency lighting." Euphemia sighed softly. "But of course, that makes too much sense." The sarcasm wasn't like her; had she picked it up from Lelouch, or Suzaku? She didn't know.

"Ah! I'm sorry. I'm Euphemia," she said, bowing her head. "And you?"

Tsukasa nodded when the girl insisted, a little taken back at how much she could seemingly say in one breath. "It's fine. And yeah, I don't think they're trying to make things easy for us to get around without stumbling over things in the dark." That would be entirely too easy after all. "They probably laugh every time we stub our toes." Sadists.

Tsukasa bowed in response, the movement feeling a little odd in this body. "I'm called Tsukasa. Nice to meet you."

"You can say that again. And it's nice to meet you too, Tsukasa, though I wish it were under better circumstances than this. This place..." The princess laughed a little, then frowned. "They're..." She curled her fingers around the handle of her flashlight tightly, so tightly she almost drew blood. Lelouch and Suzaku...and even Rolo...don't deserve this.

"Where are you headed?"

Tsukasa laughed softly, a faint smile quirking his lips. "Yeah, the location really doesn't help very much," he agreed, glancing up and down the hallway again just to make sure that nothing was coming after them even now. He hated being so paranoid. "It's horrible," he continued, finishing Euphemia's sentence for her, staring down at the ground for a moment sullenly.

"I- I wasn't really," he admitted with a rueful little expression. "I didn't have anything to do but I hate feeling useless so..." It was stupid, but sitting in his room felt too much like giving up.

"It is," she nodded, sighing softly. That much was the absolute truth, and there was no way around it.

The princess nodded to that statement, agreeing fully. "I know that feeling. I'm supposed to be 'in my room keeping myself out of trouble', but I've been doing that too long. It gets rather stifling after a few nights of that, so I wanted to see about maybe heading upstairs. Since I kind of noticed the patient clinic doesn't really exist anymore, I thought I'd see about starting it up again, since I have some training in things like that," Euphemia continued. "I'm definitely not a fighter, but I don't want to just sit around and do nothing, either."

He could definitely sympathise with that feeling. He felt a little like a hanger on with Endrance and Haseo. They'd ben through so much together while he... he had known Sora and Elk, he was from a different time and didn't know what they were talking about half the time. But standing around waiting for them to ask for his help was just pointless. "There was a clinic?" he asked curiously. He hadn't heard of anything like that himself but he hadn't really thought about it much. He could heal here for real after all.

"That sounds like a good idea," he said with a small smile. "Lots of people get injured after all."
