Night 45: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[from here]

Momo really hoped Senna was going to just stay inside her room. She didn't want to worry about her but she couldn't help it. Hopefully, Hokuto would keep her safe. She would just have to place her faith in Hokuto.

The shinigami headed out into the main hallway.

Which begged the question: if Captain Kirk was deemed permanently unfit for duty, did that mean Commander Spock would assume his position? Technically, they weren't on the Enterprise right now, but they were technically exploring a strange new civilization--whatever sort of 'civilization' Landel's constituted.

And Commander Spock's message that he'd need Chekov to be in top form if Captain Kirk was out of commission...

Holy Saint Basil's Cathedral, he wasn't ready to be a First Officer. Much less Commander Spock's First Officer.

Seriously? Aerith sighed as she turned into a wider, still decidedly empty hallway. She really wished she weren't flying so blind here... There had to be some clue somewhere as to what was going on here. It would be nice if she had a coin to flip or something when it came to deciding which way to turn.

The corridor was silent.

Hanna's footsteps sounded horribly loud in her ears. Horribly… Horribly wrong, actually; almost as though she shouldn't be hearing them at all. She kept one hand braced against the wall as she walked, practically on tip-toe. If she kept on going north, she'd eventually hit the Rec Field, right? A bit of fresh air would be nice, and the moonlight. Oh, oh, and the stars! It'd be a hella lot nicer than the darkness and the dank, and all those other depressing d-words floating around in her head.

It wasn't that Hanna was a coward, per se; she wasn't. She had guts and courage, and a good challenge was even better than a slab of triple chocolate cheesecake for supper. It was just — she sort of. Didn't like her faulty, insanity-laden memories being her only frame of reference. Yeah. The creepiness and the B-rated horrorness (was that even a word? Well, it was now!) was nowhere near as bad as that feeling. The feeling that old delusions (Yuffie) had crept up, and it (she) was smacking her around the head and yelling to be let back in, this morning, thanks very much.

She didn't wanna be Yuffie anymore. She was happy being Hanna, happy with reality (and boy did that lie feel like a kick in the teeth), and all she really wanted was to be back home. Home, where she could noogie Madison and Daniel. Home, where she could puke in Stan's car. Home, where Conner and Tiff and everybody would be waiting.

What a treat. Here was someone who had wandered the halls for so long, always too strong to bring down, and now? Now she was weakened by her own mind, by the powers this place held, the powers that created the creature walking up behind her now. It shifted to create an image that would be preferable to her as she was now; not Yuffie, but Hanna.

Hanna wouldn't know the boy sick back home with an unknown disease. She wouldn't know the boy she'd dragged back to Wutai, hoping that he stayed alive long enough to clear her name.

But she would know Blake, and Blake knew her. Stopping a few feet behind her, the mimic leaned against the wall as if it were scared or tired, or possibly both. "H-Hanna?"

Even though Stephen wasn't quite ready to move just yet, he willed himself to continue down the hallway and into the next.

Some part of him was hoping this was nothing more than another one of his dreams. They always felt so real whenever he dreamed of them, and yet that was just what they were: dreams. However, this felt much more different than all the other times. His mind was just as clear as it had been all day, and yet here he was.

Maybe it was just another stage of his recovery? It made a little sense; his mind was confused, and so another one of his delusions passed through. But...

Breathing a shaky sigh, it wasn't long before Stephen caught sight of the doors that led to the female block, wavering in front of it for quite some time before finally going in.

As soon as Claude stepped into the hallway, he spotted the door he knew led into the F-block. That was where Anise and Celes would be coming from, right? Maybe it'd be better if he just waited here for a few minutes--

But as soon as Claude caught sight of a sickeningly familiar figure slinking down the hallway, all his thoughts screeched to a grinding halt. Sucking in a quiet breath, he clicked his flashlight off and pressed against the wall in order to minimize his chances of being seen. There was no mistaking it: that small yet powerful form, flashes of unruly green hair that fleetingly caught beneath the beams from the boy's light. Claude's eyes narrowed.

Sync.

Just what the hell was he doing, hanging around the female blocks like that? Immediately, Claude's concern turned toward Anise. Surely he wasn't planning on going after her! Unless he wants to finish what he started last night, he bitterly said to himself. Too bad the only way Sync was going to lay another hand on Anise was if he had to step over Claude's dead body first.

As much as he wanted to rush at him, Claude decided to hold off for now. It was better to go after him when he wouldn't be expecting it, preferably in a place not many people would see.

Once Sync slipped into the female block, he silently followed after.

It looked like the coast was clear. With the way Sync was acting today, Anise supposed she shouldn't expect to get bothered by him tonight. Still, she wanted to hurry and meet with Claude as soon as possible. If Sync ran into them at the meeting spot...

Well, Anise didn't know what would happen, but it would be an uncomfortable distraction at best, and a total mess at worst.

Walking a little faster now, Anise hurried down to the next hall.

Better.

This was much better. The hallway was at least twice as wide as the previous corridors so that could only be a good thing. It seemed rather empty, thankfully, as she swept her flashlight left and right rather poorly this time. Impatience was starting to rise above caution, but, as an evangelion pilot, the last thing the staff would want to do is risk injuring her over some nightly stroll through the clinic.

Feeling better over this strange situation, Asuka hugged the left side of the hall and strode briskly down the cool hallway toward a door she had spotted when her light had crossed over it.

She wasn't sure if the only sound in the hallway was her own pair of feet pattering across the tile, but it sure did make her stride that much quicker as she fixed squarely on the next door before her.

[identity profile] lookitmemama.livejournal.com 2009-11-24 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Wait, wait, wait.

Didn't I already take two left turns. Before she got any closer to the set of doors that had been kept open (into another wing presumably), Asuka stopped and looked behind her. Didn't this mean she was back tracking?

Or was that three left turns? Urrrgh! How could people remember all this survival stuff?!

Getting herself under control, Asuka kept glancing back and forth, hoping her instinct would point her in the right direction, or a direction at all. Well, objectively speaking, the way she was going looked very similar to the hall she was in now. But behind her.... it did open up. Was that the better shot?

Well, the little pilot would find out, wouldn't she?

Glad no other living soul had caught her making a mistake and doubling back, she sped through the corridor, fueled by the need to just get out of these winding hallways and hopefully find someone of something that makes sense.

And she was back to the nearly empty hallways now. At least there were only a few more halls to get through before she reached Kurt's room. Then she wouldn't have to worry about being alone in dark and creepy corridors, wondering if any of those monsters she'd heard about were lurking nearby.

...Okay, bad timing on that thought, Kitty thought to herself, quickening her pace. Ugh, she seriously didn't want to think about anything like that right now. It would probably be best to just hurry on.

Cissnei moved quickly from the female block of rooms, shining the torch around her every so often to get her bearings and make sure that nothing nasty was waiting around the corner. This hallway seemed to be wider than the last one--a main hallway, perhaps? At any rate, there were a few more people here, which was kind of strange for a supposedly haunted hospital. And they were people in the most real sense of the word, too. Humans. Not demons or ghosts or vampires or...whatever the hell else. Just normal, everyday Joe the Plumbers wearing moronic hospital uniforms (which, Ruby realized belatedly, she had also been "graciously" gifted with), wandering around like they weren't trapped on the set of a B horror flick.

After standing in the shadows (which wasn't exactly the most difficult thing in the world to do, considering the surroundings) for a few moments, watching the human traffic, the demon decided that she wasn't going to get any answers if she just wandered around like an idiot. Even though she enjoyed asking directions about as much as a stereotypical male, getting out of here took precedence over her own personal standards.

She picked a likely-looking target. Older, male, alone. Men were far easier to manipulate than women, after all. Offer them the merest hint of sex, and the downstairs brain takes over. All she had to do was be a bit of a cocktease, and he'd be tell her anything she wanted to know. That was the plan, anyway.

Plus she could always just kill him if he got in the way too much..but only if she absolutely had to. Unlike some of her other fellow demons, Ruby didn't enjoy randomly killing humans for shits and giggles.

"H-hey," she said, stepping out of the shadows. He seemed like a clean-cut sort of guy, so she didn't want to instantly slut it up. Maybe 'slightly timid' was the way to go for right now. "Excuse me? Can you help me? I just woke up here, and I..." She trailed off and looked away, feigning slight embarrassment mixed with fear.

"I...don't know where I am."

A short-haired girl who looked about college age was the only one Indy saw in the hall. She was trailing the wall with her fingertips (not always a bright move, in his experience), and she was alone (even less bright, at least here), but she also seemed like she might be in a hurry. Meeting someone? If she was smart.

Pilgrim wasn't here yet. Indy stopped outside the door to the nurse's station and waited against the opposite wall, keeping an eye on the girl to make sure she was fine getting to the main hall.

"Anyone ever figure out why he'd do that for some people? I mean, you got your stuff back too, yeah?"

Everything smelled too sweet, too appetizing. Come and taste, each scent begged. Just one slip. It had always been like that to him; his control not so bad as Jasper's, but never so good as Carlisle's. But the ways Landel's had managed to change him did not seem to end. He had never needed blood so badly in three days - he could hold out a week. Not easily, but quite doable. This was as if he hadn't hunted for nearly a fortnight. The food in his stomach surely wasn't helping - looking at the endless darkness in front of him, the vampire made a quick side-trip into the female block's bathroom, nestling into the furthest corner stall to expel the human facade.

With no hidden face of distaste, he only wiped the venom from his mouth with the back of his hand and returned to the hallway from before. The pain of the venom sizzling along his throat from the expulsion was welcome, bringing him back down to earth, so to speak.

Physical pain was easy. It gave him something to focus on, something to bring him away from the scents - especially the ones that smelled too familiar.

Harley pulled her thoughts from the super-lobotomized people and back to what she was supposed to be doing. This was probably a good thing since she'd just moved out into one of those big halls where she'd seen things before. Stupid cat-thing...

So far, she wasn't seeing any signs of anything, so she simply walked down the hallway and toward the front of the building. She'd already been through here so many times, she could probably make the trek with her flashlight off and her eyes closed. Provided there weren't people standing in the way for her to bump into.

Okay. Where the hell am I?

Bella frowned to herself in the hallway as she continued to move, her hand pressed firmly against the wall as she moved slowly through the darkness. There were others around with flashlights, and the small bursts of light helped her to move …

But soon she was alone in the hallway, leaving her only with the darkness and her thoughts …

And that wasn’t good.

Taking in a shuddered breath, Bella swallowed, trying not to let the darkness get to her. Sure, there were supposed monsters wandering around the hallways that could kill her at any second – and she didn’t have a weapon, so make that less than a second, - but that didn’t mean that there were any following her around currently … right?

The darkness was getting to her. Seconds later, Bella swore she heard a scratching noise coming from behind her, and before she could even think, she full on ran for it, her hand still pressed against the hall as she ran.

This is not working out for me.

As much as Calvin hated to admit it, though, he wouldn't have minded some lighting at the moment, magical or otherwise. His eyes still hadn't quite adjusted to the dark, and he kept banging his shoulder against walls and doorframes. Still, he had a vague enough idea of where he was, even in a power outage. And it had to be a power outage. That was it. The power had shorted, and the security system with it. That would explain all the patients milling about. Plus, it was too dark to really tell what the walls actually looked like...

At any rate, there was a nurse's station at the end of this hallway. They were probably frantically working to get things back to ship-shape. Maybe he could offer a hand. He was decent enough with electrical stuff.

"Keman...?"

The voice from the darkness was hesitant, uncertain; she was lost and confused and wondering just what was going on, from the sound of it. For a moment she fumbled with something she held, then came a crack and clatter, followed by an irritable mutter as she leaned down to pick up what she'd just dropped. And then there was a soft click and the flashlight she held switched on, the beam shining directly at his face.

"Ah! Sorry, this thing--" The beam dropped again as she apologized, taking a couple of steps closer. "It is you, Keman," she said, with relief very clear to be heard in her voice.

'It should be somewhere around here...' Chise thought as she walked down the hallway. It was practically empty(except for the two people down at the other end of the hallway on her right) with no signs of a monster attack.

And there it was, the designated goal. But before she could attempt to blast the door open, a familiar figure appeared at the end of the hallway. It was him. It was difficult to tell if the halls were empty or not when it was quite simply impossible to see very far into the pitch black night. She wished she'd searched her room more carefully before stepping out, because she was noticing that flashlights had been supplied to other -- prisoners, and not just Utena.

Next time. She almost considered stopping the next person that might cross their path and probing them for the information that Utena was in no state to provide, but she did not know who was safe to stop.

So she waited and peered about her surroundings, eyes slowly adjusting to the dark.

Delilah wasn't supposed to just accept things this easily, a nagging feeling told her. But that was exactly what Yomi had been hoping for, wasn't it? An unreleased sigh settled in her lungs. She was confusing herself.

She had been about to squeeze her friend's hand reassuringly when the other girl let go entirely and moved forward. Yomi moved her flashlight beam to keep it on her friend, but she was already moving out past the door into further darkness. "Oi, Hime— Delilah," she called out, correcting herself quickly, "don't go ahead too fast."

Yomi hurried to catch up, glad that Delilah had stopped quickly enough. She swept the beam across both potential directions. In other dreams, she normally went south from here. Going by her instincts, she thought it would be best to trace a familiar path. If they were to meet some big ending or confrontation, it would probably be along Utena's usual route. "We should head upstairs. I've been told there's a way out up there," she explained quietly, taking a few steps forward, but waiting for Delilah to follow in step with her this time rather than outright leading.

There wasn't much farther for him to go, but Claude couldn't get back to Celes and Anise soon enough. He could only hope they hadn't gotten tired of waiting on him. After his encounter with Sync, his nerves were frazzled, and he had to privately admit that he wasn't sure he was in any state of mind to make the trek up to the morgue by himself.

Just as he was about to turn the corner, however, Claude stopped dead in his tracks and quickly checked himself over. His shoes and white pants were speckled with blood. But the most obvious bits of evidence were the crimson stains on his sword. Claude glanced around, hesitating. He couldn't just walk around carrying this, could he?

It didn't take him long to hastily rip off the bottom part of his long shirt and use the fabric to wipe most of the blood off. As he did so, he couldn't help but cringe. Not that he was squeamish or anything, but it was hard to have to look at remnants of what he'd just done. When he realized he'd gotten some of the blood on his hands, all he could do was wipe them on the front of his chest. Hopefully the dark fabric would make it less noticeable.

When he'd managed to make himself feel a little better about his appearance, Claude took off running once more.
