Night 45: West Wing, South Hall 1-B

[from here]

Momo really hoped Senna was going to just stay inside her room. She didn't want to worry about her but she couldn't help it. Hopefully, Hokuto would keep her safe. She would just have to place her faith in Hokuto.

The shinigami headed out into the main hallway.

A short-haired girl who looked about college age was the only one Indy saw in the hall. She was trailing the wall with her fingertips (not always a bright move, in his experience), and she was alone (even less bright, at least here), but she also seemed like she might be in a hurry. Meeting someone? If she was smart.

Pilgrim wasn't here yet. Indy stopped outside the door to the nurse's station and waited against the opposite wall, keeping an eye on the girl to make sure she was fine getting to the main hall.

Scott came out of his dash down the hall, sliding to a stop right in front of the explorer. "Hey man! Sorry it took a bit. Seems Landel left me a bit of an upgrade for whatever reason, and that threw me a bit," he explained, grabbing one side of his open jacket to emphasize what he was saying. "Anyone ever figure out why he'd do that for some people? I mean, you got your stuff back too, yeah?"

He shook his head, settling himself down some. "Anyway, not important. So what's the plan, Stan?" he asked, giving Indy a "ready to go" thumbs up.

Everyone wanted to know about the clothes. Too bad Indy hadn't learned anything new about them since the previous night, which meant he gave the same answer now as he had then. "I'm not sure. Right now my best guess is that Landel just wants to cause some tension between the haves and the have-nots, but of course that's just a theory." Scott and Ryuuzaki had probably checked in around the same time, which would mean that it wasn't necessarily based on the duration of anyone's stay. And if the clothes were supposed to reinforce some good behavior on their parts, Landel could stand to be a lot clearer about what that behavior was.

"Nice jacket," he added, going easy on the irony. "Those pockets will hold a lot of pens. As for the plan..." There wasn't much of one, actually, but Pilgrim didn't need to know that. "...we'll patrol. Starting with the main hall and going wherever it sounds like trouble."

Yeah, there. That'd sounded like an action hero kind of thing to say.

"Not as useful as my girlfriend's bottomless abyss purse, but yeah, not too bad!" Scott answered completely free of irony, patting one of his pockets proudly. He then listened to the plan. It wasn't much of one, but hey, these sorts of good guy mission things tended to work out in the end, so whatever. "All right then, onward to yonder main hall!" Scott declared, pointing enthusiastically in what he assumed was the right direction.

Pilgrim got the direction right. Granted, he'd had a 50-50 chance, and one of the directions was the one he'd just come from, but Indy was still prepared to take that as progress.

Out of curiosity, he tried the door to the nurse's station--might as well, since they were there. It was locked. The experimental kick Indy planted near the handle only succeeded in making his foot slightly sore. Whatever was in there, somebody didn't want them taking it.

He glanced around. The girl he'd been watching out for earlier had met up with someone who looked like a friend. "All right, let's--" --move on, Indy started to say before he was interrupted by shouting from down the hall. He flashed the light in that direction. Keman.

"Come on!" he ordered Pilgrim, and ran.
