Night 44: M41-M50 Hallway

"Stop calling me Greg, it's weird!" Raz protested, but predictably his words were ignored, and the nurse left with his roommate without a sound. The door closed shut, and he was alone once again.

The events that occurred this dinner shift played through his mind over and over again, though he very much didn't want them to. It was bad enough that he got trapped here in the first place, but couldn't he have at least got a friendlier roommate? Really? Was that so much to ask for?

As he contemplated how to deal with this problem, it seemed that all he did was blink, and then the room was dark. The lock unclicked, and Raz knew what that meant.

"Time to get to work," he said to himself, as he grabbed his flashlight and headed out the door.

Depth Charge paid little attention to the intercom, instead nodding at the Scarecrow's question and digging around for his flashlight and shears. "Yeah, that's right." Which meant... he peered the the other man, head to one side as he tried to decipher just what the Pit he was before, but the options were vast and the hints limited. "What were you, exactly, Scarcr..." Or not. Oh. Stupid question. "Never mind."

The peer turned quizzical (and probably a little accusing) as the Scarecrow returned the note. Considering they'd only just met... well. That was a lot of trust to throw in there. Trust he wasn't entire sure he could live up to, not after what had happened to For- "You sure you wanna come?" he interrupted himself quickly.

"Of course," said the Scarecrow with a smile. "I'm not sure how much help I would be, but surely two heads are better than one, especially in a place as unwelcoming as this. And if nothing else, granted we manage to find some of these ingredients, I can help you carry things. I'm not so terrible at that."

He found his flashlight in his desk drawer and fished it out, clicking it on and off a couple of times to make sure it was still in working order. "I'm ready anytime you are, Depth Charge, my friend."

Depth Charge gave the Scarecrow one last hard look- as though turning up the cynicism in his stare would suddenly make everything clear to him- then nodded. "Alright. You're in."

There was something oddly final about that. Or maybe he was just looking into it too much. Well, whatever. His new partner certainly didn't seem daunted, and that kind of optimism was usually pretty catching. "First we hit up chemical storage, then we try the pharmacy," he explained gruffly, stuffing a map into his back pocket with his shears and turning to the door. "Let's go."
