Day 44: Women's Showers (2nd Shift)

The sting of the water on Momo's wounds reminded her exactly where each and every burn was. Between that and the clear plastic wrapping the nurse placed around the long cut up her arm to her shoulder, she decided as little time in the actual spray would be wise. Sitting on a stool out of the direct stream, she went about scrubbing the grit and grime.

It almost felt weird to be alive with her throat intact, but Momo was not about to wish it was otherwise. In the past, maybe, but she remembered who she was and could not allow herself to become what she had been prior to her encounter with the undead knight. Wincing a bit with the pain of washing, she turned her thoughts to her upcoming meeting with Shikamaru. Or rather, she tried to. She still had to see Hitsugaya once she finished her shower.

Sheena almost considered an attempt to talk her nurse into letting her skip showers if only because she just knew Yukari would find her. And while she wasn't against seeing the youkai naked (and let her thoughts wander to things she'd felt last night), she was against being molested in the shower. She was afraid that Yukari would assume that since last night had happened, she'd have permission to be clingish and touchy and all that even more than normal in public. The ninja was not comfortable enough for anything close to that. Even if Sheena was supposedly Yukari's ninja. Or whatever the youkai had really meant by that.

Still, Sheena wanted to be clean. Not only would it clean her body, but maybe the ritual of bathing would help wash the feel of the youkai's touch off her skin so she could maybe think normal and stay focused on the here and now instead of the previous night. But how to keep the youkai from pouncing her...

Raine. Oh, thank Martel she's here and doesn't look like she's going to be bolting from the water anytime soon.

With a quick look around to find the showers currently vacant of youkai (which disappointed Sheena more than she was willing to admit), the ninja stripped and headed into the showers after the nurse removed her bandages. Any warnings the woman gave her about being gentle with the stitches still there went unnoticed as the ninja started up the shower next to Raine.

"Hey," she said to the half-elf.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
"Hello." Raine glanced at Sheena, predictably checking the state of the ninja's various injuries. She didn't see anything new, so she got back to just letting the water run over her... though still trying to keep her hair dry. It was a lost cause, so she finally gave up and ducked under the spray, as briefly as she could, to get it wet enough to lather. At least she didn't have cause to be paranoid about her ears showing, even though she still didn't like it.

She saw the bell around Sheena's neck, but didn't bring it up. Talking about Corinne would likely still be too hard.

"Did your friend go to see you last night?" She would be rather surprised if the answer was no.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Sheena carefully looked away from Raine to the soap dispensers when that question was asked. "Yeah."

She then switched to something a bit more normal for the ninja. "You know, I had been trying to keep my room number a secret from her. She's so damn annoying at times. I liked having a place of privacy from her."

All truths, even if they were only layered over other truths.

"You didn't have to tell her," she said with a bit of a scowl.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Normally, I assume it's all right to tell someone's friend their room number," Raine said, raising her eyebrows. "But in that case, is there anyone else you're friendly with that you don't want to easily find you?" And yet people called Raine antisocial...

She didn't intend on baiting the girl, since she still had to be feeling a little fragile after the night before, but the complaint was certainly odd enough to comment on.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"She's not--" The ninja cut herself off and grumbled a moment, not sure what had almost come out of her mouth.

"No, there isn't anyone else I care about."

Sheena stepped into the spray, dousing her hair, only to have found she'd forgotten to take it out of it's ponytail. With another grumble, the ninja pulled the bright red ribbon, matching the ones Raine had delivered - that was holding her hair back. She shook her hair out and draped the ribbon over a knob.

"I'm okay," she replied, without expressly stating what she was referring to. "At least I think so. Maybe."

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Raine looked at the ribbon, then back at Sheena. That looks more than a little familiar... And if Yukari wasn't a friend, then what was she?

The questions Sheena had been asking about romance could suddenly be viewed in a new light if she thought about it...

"Yukari stayed with you then, I take it." And the switching of ribbons... there were several possible explanations, including something happening to Sheena's usual and Yukari offering a replacement, but to Raine, it seemed more like... either an exchange, or symbolic possessiveness. The first question to come to mind in light of that was On the part of whom?

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oblivious to Raine's eying of the ribbon, Sheena started lathering her arms. At the youkai's name, the ninja glanced up, but still didn't see Yukari. It wasn't a conscious act at all, and Sheena was quickly back to cleaning herself.

"She came by. We talked." Among other things.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
"And exchanged a little more than just words," Raine said dryly. She certainly remembered being given little trinkets from certain boys, especially when they were trying to cheer her up. Even in recent years, she'd been given courting gifts (they were hard to return when given anonymously).

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Sheena froze, her eyes wide in shock, heat rising on her face. Or was that just the hot water? How did Raine know? The youkai didn't leave any marks. The ninja wasn't acting any different. Was she?

"The hell are you talking about?" Sheena sputtered back, forcing the surprised look into a glare. "I was traumatized yesterday. Might as well have been torture."

In more ways than one. Stupid ranch.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
That was more of a reaction than Raine was expecting. "But not by Yukari, I assume?" If the answer was yes, the youkai was going to regret her actions.

Fortunately, Raine was reasonably certain that wasn't the case, but her protective streak still made her ask.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Tch. Her presence tends to count as torture," Sheena replied with an eye roll, "but, no, she didn't traumatize me."

Sheena focused on washing herself, but her lips turned up just the slightest. "It was... nice. Having her there before..." we started making out. "...I fell asleep."

That was presumably what happened when the night ended. Right?

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
Raine saw the hint of a smile and managed not to look amused. And what happened before you fell asleep? She wouldn't be so mean as to ask, though.

"That's good to hear. My night... was a little more exciting, unfortunately. Thankfully, it wasn't nearly as eventful as it could have been. Have you seen the board?" It might be a little hard to explain what she meant if Sheena didn't know.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, but everything on there isn't making sense today," Sheena replied.

She turned to get more soap and her eyes fell upon a familiar naked form. Yukari. The ninja's eyes traced over her form, a bit of a blush rising on her cheeks. Then she saw the tracks she'd carved down the youkai's back - quite visible on her pale skin. Her face flushed a little more, seeing what she'd done to Yukari.

"What happened?" Sheena managed to ask to keep Raine from wondering why the ninja wasn't responding. She did not want Raine catching sight of Yukari's back. At all. Thankfully, the youkai was on the other side of Raine, so the half-elf would not see her when she looked at Sheena.

The ninja was fascinated by those marks, her eyes lingering on them for far too long as she bit her bottom lip. She tore her eyes away before the youkai sensed she was being watched. At least that's what she believed. As she waited for Raine to clarify the stuff on the board, Sheena's movements took on a different feel. She seemed to take her time lathering her upper body, slowly running her hands down over her breasts and down her sides.

No, she wasn't doing it on purpose. Yet.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Raine felt something slipping down her forehead--shampoo suds. She took it as a hint that this would be a good time to rinse her hair, and closed her eyes as she stepped back into the spray. "Some people--likely not a majority, but I'm not sure--apparently died last night, but they're fine this morning, without even a mark to show what happened. The deaths were all very specific, as well--the exact same way that someone they know died."

Fortunately for Sheena, she was distracted enough by the questions that topic brought up to overlook Yukari. For the moment.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-25 12:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Sheena's movements paused. "Died? That's... really weird." At least the board was starting to make more sense. "I'm glad that didn't happen to me considering how many people I know died. Did you have to treat some of them?"

She was officially thankful to the youkai for... distracting her. Speaking of the youkai, the ninja stole another look Yukari's way as Sheena resumed washing herself.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
Raine shook her head. "I didn't know about it until this morning. If I'd tried, I suspect nothing would have happened even if I came across someone whose wounds weren't fatal yet."

The whole event worried her; what had been the point of it? And worse, after that, what else could they expect to be put through?

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
"So what did you do last night that was so eventful? You made it sound like it was more than just hanging out in the clinic for someone bleeding to show up," Sheena asked.

This time when the ninja glanced over at the youkai, she met a pair of violet eyes. Sheena flushed and quickly looked away, choosing to move completely under the spray so her hair hung thick across her face. It still gave her just enough sight to see Yukari. Subtely watching her.

And now who's being the pervert, you stupid ninja? You shouldn't be... And yet, she didn't stop.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
"I was supposed to meet up with someone, but he never showed up. Worse, I'm still not sure where the clinic is; at this rate, I might just start waiting in the chapel for people." All right, she'd need someone to escort her there, but it was better than wasting her magic by not using it.

Once she'd rinsed out her hair, she slicked it back--she couldn't do much else with it at the moment, and she liked being able to see--and blinked at Sheena. Why was the ninja's body language suddenly indicating shame? "Is something wrong?"

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
The ninja's bangs were obscuring her face, preventing Raine from figuring out that Sheena's attention was focused on the curves beyond the half-elf. It took far longer than it should have for her to notice that Raine had asked her a question.

"Uh... no."

Turning a bit away from Raine, Sheena tilted her head back into the stream, bringing her hands up to smooth the hair out of her face. She arched her back just a bit and then stretched her arms up. For a short period of time, the exsphere set into the ninja's torso was visible. Not that Sheena noticed. She stole another quick glance at the youkai.

Oh yeah, Raine had been talking about the clinic. And the chapel. She should respond to that. "Why aren't you just setting up your own? It's been a while since there's been a central spot," Sheena said, clearly a little distracted even though she was trying to hide it as she got some shampoo and started on her hair.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd still prefer not to do anything so drastic just yet. Anything I do set up will be temporary, unless Tamaki... vanishes," Raine murmured. She was really worried about the kid; his boyfriend should know something, though. At least, she hoped so.

She was also wondering about Sheena; what was distracting her all of a sudden? Though, admittedly, there didn't have to be any sort of trigger for the girl's mind to go wandering off. She wasn't quite as bad as Lloyd, but sometimes she got close.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
If only Sheena was a frigid bitch capable of shutting her urges off. Kind of like Raine, the ninja thought. Then she wouldn't be distracted by the sexy youkai.

On second thought... HELL NO.

"Then set up something temporary and let everyone know. By the way, you owe Forte a healing today," she added on, shooting Raine a glare since the half-elf had just admitted that she'd done nothing with her night and could have healed the poor robot last night.

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
Raine glared. "I never said I would. I'm sorry that I could have and didn't, but there are nights when the little magic I have still isn't enough and I prefer to err on the side of caution here." Yes, she had healed friends on request before (as well as without asking, on occasion) but those were people who needed it because they were going out and doing things. She didn't know Forte, and unless a healing was the only way to avoid a near-certain trip to the medical wing, he could heal on his own.

If there was a lull in the usual... excitement for a few nights, and he still needed it, she might. But for now, he'd live.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
"He's in a wheelchair, Raine," the ninja spat back, all but forgetting about Yukari in the rush of anger. "You better heal him tonight. You have no idea how being stuck in that chair, completely unable to do anything is going to start driving him insane."

She tore her angry eyes away from Raine to wash the suds from her hair. "He's a lot like me. I understand how he feels..."

[identity profile] per-ardua.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
She sighed. "I'll look at him, but if he's too badly off, I won't even be able to help him much. And there are multiple reasons he might be too injured to walk; First Aid doesn't always do much for pain." It wasn't a promise to heal him, just that she would see if she could really do anything.

She would have asked a question that pointedly turned the tables on Sheena, but she wasn't in the mood to get accused of being a heartless bitch.

[identity profile] mizuhomaiden.livejournal.com 2009-09-26 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
"He's in M109," Sheena replied. "He just needs to be able to get up and do something. I'm not asking you to make him shiny and new."

If Sheena had any inclining that Raine had been contemplating asking the ninja certain questions, she gave no indication of it.

"If you see him and then decide not to, I'll let it go. I'll be pissed, but I'll let it go. Just make sure to tell him why if you choose not to."
