Night 43: West Wing, South Hall 1-B
[from here]
Something didn't feel quite right about the building as Beatrix stepped out into the hallway. Moving to the left, she put her back against the wall to wait for Wonka to arrive. She wasn't sure what didn't feel right about it, but her instincts were warning her to expect more of the unexpected and to trust what she felt, not her eyes.
A flicker of movement out of the corner of her eyes, yet nothing was there. Her eyes narrowed. Yes, something wasn't quite right.

Hmph. No sign of his daughter. The prosecutor frowned. Franziska had only a short distance to go to meet him here. Where was she?!
While he waited, he looked around. There were two other women standing nearby, apparently waiting to meet others. They were unfamiliar to him, and he had no interest nor need to speak to them.

Going back and forth was inefficient, but it was the only choice she had. Thankfully, she'd managed to miss her father on both trips - the outgoing and the incoming - meaning he would have no idea she now had evidence against him. No. Possible evidence. Not conclusive. Nothing conclusive yet. And she would not present such inconclusive evidence, not in a million years. As he had taught her, a case had to be perfect. The perfect witness and the perfect evidence to create a perfect victory and a guilty verdict.
Stepping out into the hall, dog leash over one shoulder, journal flat against her back in her waistband and flashlight in her right hand, she gave the hall a quick onceover before her eyes settled on a familiar form. There he was; waiting as if she were the late one. Stalking up to him, she courtseyed as she always did and then stood tall again, one hand on her hip. "My apologies. Leaving the room proved harder with a new roommate." Lies, but good ones. Plausible ones that she doubted the new roommate would care much about. "Were you waiting long, Papa?"

He gave her a cursory nod in response to her greeting, then flashed her a stern look. "Franziska von Karma. You know as well as I that 'dealing with your roommate' is nothing more than a pathetic excuse for tardiness. It matters not how long I have been waiting here. You claimed that this meeting is of high priority. Ergo, barring a true emergency, your roommate can wait." His eyes pierced into hers. "What 'urgent' matters did you really have that would eclipse the importance of this meeting?"

And that was all Franziska was going to say on that. Pry as her father might, she would not reveal the evidence gathering against him, or allow him to figure it out. "But we should go. I have appointments following this - as I'm sure you do as well."

"Indeed," he finally spoke, his controlled voice bearing a hint of irritation. "It is unwise to tarry here. We have no time to waste." True enough; he wanted to take care of this unpleasantness as quickly as possible. "I will lead the way. Follow me, Franziska." Briskly, he walked to the intersection. Making sure that his daughter was right behind him, he turned the corner to his left.
