Day 43: Intercom, Evening

Hello! I.R.I.S. here once more to announce to you, our honored guests, that you have officially made it through a day of our typical Landel's treatment. Of course, it isn't quite over: we will now have you retire to our designated patient quarters with one of your agency partners to inspect their sleeping area and the tools that we provide them with for the true bulk of our behavioral testing. On an added note, we would like you to notice once again that the meals we provide to our subjects are of the highest quality.

For those of you feeling apprehensive about taking part in our more intensive methods, please be aware that we would never imagine putting all of you in any danger whatsoever. This last shift will be your last at our Institute; afterward, we will escort you to our Head Doctor's personal observation station to survey some of our test Next-Wave participants in the rigorous trials we put them through – all for their betterment, of course.

Once again, we hope that you are satisfied with what you find, and as always, direct any questions you may have to your console.

The nurses began to escort the patients to their rooms. They didn't even seem to be brought to awareness by words such as "testing" and "subjects."

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. (Find all of the newly changed room assignments and shift introductions here.) If you are introducing your character during this shift, you may either choose for them character to wake up before their roommate gets back, or after. ]

As Kanji spoke Haseo finished dumping clothes on the floor and bed- for no real reason other than he was distracted and there wasn't really anything better to do that wasn't trashing the neatness on his "side" of the room. The negativity didn't faze him, and he still didn't even look straight at Kanji.

"It's not that," he said after a moment, "The problem lies in what they do to you if they think you're a threat." He wondered if Kanji knew anything about what had happened that morning. He didn't seem to care in general though, and so Haseo left it and moved on as well.

Usually he would have never thought of eating on the bed, but that's exactly what he did then, transferring the tray and sitting so that his back was against the wall, not a small amount of brooding in his demeanor. It was odd that he'd been put in the body of his PC, and then for some reason he was expected to deal with consuming enough to keep him going... and yet they had thrown out the concept of sleeping. There might have been some sort of cruel irony in that.

At Kanji's last question, however, he looked up with eyes narrowed, mid-way through gingerly lifting a "fry" in inspection. "Huh...? I don't have a girlfr-- oh." Haseo paused, trying to determine if the term was being used as some sort of insult. "...You mean Endrance?"

That was almost funny. Did he really think Endrance was female? What sort of weird women was he being exposed to? Haseo had thought the other teen was freaked out before because, well, Endrance had hugged him and they were both male or something.

"Endrance is a guy," he corrected firmly. "But yes, he'll probably be around here soon after the doors unlock or whatever."

Whether or not Haseo was paying attention, Kanji shot the guy a somewhat confused, unimpressed look. What they do to you? What, sic those gorilla guys on you? Like Kanji was really afraid of those punks. Seriously, let them try it. And even then, what the hell were they really gonna do? Beat you up? Throw you back in your room? They were all trapped here anyway, so what the hell should he care where it was they shoved him off to?

But as soon as that point about 'Endrance' came up, his expression shifted entirely. "A g--?! Wait." Okay, he needed this clarified. "You mean that... tall one, right? The one from last time? With the blue hair? ...That's a guy?!"

How the hell could that be a GUY? Cause she was... or he was kinda... Alright hold up. This... ARGH! WHY DID HE KEEP CONFUSING ONE FOR THE OTHER?! This was the second time! Neither time was his fault, dammit! I mean, it's not like-- Oh whatever the hell. Why was he sitting here trying to justify it to himself? He didn't care. He didn't. Just... ARGH!

He quickly tried to divert attention from his reaction by changing the subject and switching in his shock for irritation. "W-Well... how 'bout, like, letting me know in advance when you plan to have people show up, huh?! It'd be kinda nice to know if I have time to stick around or not."

Jerk. This was all HIS fault. Somehow.

It was really a shame Haseo was in such a downer mood, because watching Kanji react would have otherwise been intensely amusing for all the wrong reasons.

"Yeah. As far as I know," he answered blandly, looking down from openly staring in order to continue paying careful attention to his fries as he consumed them. It was admittedly kind of weird that since Endrance was in his player character as well, Haseo didn't know what he actually looked like. He assumed though that he probably didn't resemble it much more than he himself in real life did Haseo the Black Rogue, Terror of Death.

As for gender, although with modern technology it was easy enough to lie about something like that online, Endrance had insisted on being male and honestly Haseo couldn't think of a good argument for it to be a deception. Especially since in this case there was a fair reason for it, and Endrance was still playing it straight. Or rather-- well anyway.

"I'm not obligated to tell you what I'm planning," came the reply, tone equal parts bored and irritated. It wasn't that Haseo couldn't tell what Kanji was probably getting at, but he really didn't want to go directly discussing it at the time. The red on his face wasn't completely indignation though, and after a moment he scoffed and added, "It's not what you think. Geez."
