Day 43: Intercom, Evening

Hello! I.R.I.S. here once more to announce to you, our honored guests, that you have officially made it through a day of our typical Landel's treatment. Of course, it isn't quite over: we will now have you retire to our designated patient quarters with one of your agency partners to inspect their sleeping area and the tools that we provide them with for the true bulk of our behavioral testing. On an added note, we would like you to notice once again that the meals we provide to our subjects are of the highest quality.

For those of you feeling apprehensive about taking part in our more intensive methods, please be aware that we would never imagine putting all of you in any danger whatsoever. This last shift will be your last at our Institute; afterward, we will escort you to our Head Doctor's personal observation station to survey some of our test Next-Wave participants in the rigorous trials we put them through – all for their betterment, of course.

Once again, we hope that you are satisfied with what you find, and as always, direct any questions you may have to your console.

The nurses began to escort the patients to their rooms. They didn't even seem to be brought to awareness by words such as "testing" and "subjects."

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. (Find all of the newly changed room assignments and shift introductions here.) If you are introducing your character during this shift, you may either choose for them character to wake up before their roommate gets back, or after. ]

... Monsters?

Rolo didn't bother hiding the look of disbelief, and he wasn't about to believe it either when Christian pointed to his cast. That could have been a pre-existing injury, or Rolo wouldn't be surprised if this kid managed to hurt himself on something here. But at the same time, there was that announcement on the intercom about "trials"... the nurses acted like they couldn't even hear those, though.

He wasn't quite sure whether to believe this kid or not, but Rolo figured he'd find out, glancing at the door.

"Then, when do the doors unlock?"

Ciel wished he had a more accurate answer about that. Without a watch to verify, he mostly just waited for the sound of the lock turning and the door swinging open. He wondered if the time varied at all, unable to gauge the flow of time properly from one day to the next. It was more than frustrating, having to rely on announcements to guide him.

"They usually unlock around this time, so you won't be waiting much longer." And neither would he. The map was in his pocket and he had a clear objective to head straight to the second floor and attempt to navigate through it to locate those patient files.

"Just remember what I said about monsters," he repeated, continuing to feign terror. He himself had only come across the creatures from the night before and Grell Sutcliff, none of which he could claim were particularly traumatizing, though those creatures did have a fowl stench to them he would never forget. His stomach still turned unpleasant at the memory.

Hm. It sounded like it was just something that one would be able to notice. In that case, Rolo figured that was all the information he needed to know, as this kid didn't seem to have anything else of importance aside from the warnings about the monsters, which Rolo still wasn't sure if he should take heed of or not. This kid was hurt, but Rolo still seemed to have the opinion that it was because of Christian's own carelessness.

"Alright," He nodded, turning to the side as if losing interest in Christian altogether. Just the information about being able to leave their rooms at night was enough, assuming it was true Rolo knew he would have found that out eventually, but having advance notice was preferable. He could plan now.

There wasn't much to plan, though. It pretty much amounted to "find Lelouch and get out." That's right, he had to make sure to search the building and find out if they were holding his brother or not. There had to be clues somewhere, even it if sounded like this entire area was just some testing ground for something. Well, if the computer's announcement was to be believed.

Rolo had nothing else to ask of his roommate, so he just directed his attention to his food, poking it experimentally as if he thought it was poisoned. All he had to do now was wait until the doors were unlocked.
