Day 43: Intercom, Evening

Hello! I.R.I.S. here once more to announce to you, our honored guests, that you have officially made it through a day of our typical Landel's treatment. Of course, it isn't quite over: we will now have you retire to our designated patient quarters with one of your agency partners to inspect their sleeping area and the tools that we provide them with for the true bulk of our behavioral testing. On an added note, we would like you to notice once again that the meals we provide to our subjects are of the highest quality.

For those of you feeling apprehensive about taking part in our more intensive methods, please be aware that we would never imagine putting all of you in any danger whatsoever. This last shift will be your last at our Institute; afterward, we will escort you to our Head Doctor's personal observation station to survey some of our test Next-Wave participants in the rigorous trials we put them through – all for their betterment, of course.

Once again, we hope that you are satisfied with what you find, and as always, direct any questions you may have to your console.

The nurses began to escort the patients to their rooms. They didn't even seem to be brought to awareness by words such as "testing" and "subjects."

[ All room threads go in response to this post; please post your character's room number as the subject line of the initial post. (Find all of the newly changed room assignments and shift introductions here.) If you are introducing your character during this shift, you may either choose for them character to wake up before their roommate gets back, or after. ]

Sam hadn't wanted to leave the library, but his nurse insisted that it was dinner time. It was true that it was getting dark, but Sam hadn't got anything done today. He had got a general idea of what was going on, but that shouldn't have taken all day, and he hadn't even found any items, that he'd been allowed to keep. How was he supposed to solve this case without stealing a few things? Borrowing. Borrowing a few things.

But it wasn't really a case without Max. Sam hadn't seen or heard him all day, and he'd got no useful replies from the bulletin board message. He had to be honest with himself. Max wasn't there. He was alone.

On the plus side, Max hadn't been taken, so he was still out there somewhere. Sam didn't have much faith in Max's ability to come to his rescue without extensive coaching, but with luck, they'd be able to get into contact. If Max could bust Sam out of Hell, he could bust him out of this place.

And there were the monsters to look forward to. Max was going to be so jealous.

Sam's nurse left him in his room with his dinner. Sam guessed that the fun stuff didn't start until afterward. That seemed charitable. No point fighting the demonic hordes of this interdimensional node on an empty stomach.

Ronixis was still concerned at the end of the day. He hadn't heard anything from Claude or Guy and while he hadn't exactly been expecting it, he still reserved the right to be concerned and maybe a little stung if they didn't trust him after last night. It was probably nothing like that though and he felt guilty for even thinking it. Ugh, this place had a way of making you doubt yourself and other people.

He entered the room and blinked when he saw the new roommate sitting there. Daniel was gone then. They hadn't spoken much but he'd been interesting. Ronixis smiled at the newcomer. Well, he assumed that he was a newcomer. "Hi," he said, going over to his own desk. "I'm Ronixis. Pleased to meet you."

Sam looked up from his dinner. "I'm Sam, freelance erudite canine. I assume we're roommates, of a sort?" That would explain the two beds. Not that it mattered, if things went well tonight.
