Day 42, Afternoon: Morris Park
With the early morning’s embarrassment out of the way, Depth Charge had decided to devote a chunk of the day to familiarising himself with Doyleton: its ins and outs, the stores, the street names. Anything that could prove useful if he ever managed to escape- that, and having something to keep his mind busy after the incident in the used car place. Not only had he looked stupid, he’d looked careless and stupid, and neither of those were looks he really wanted to go for.
Finally he drew his circuit of the town to a close in a run-down park just off of Kelley Street, and boy did it ever look like slag. There was something oddly refreshing about it after the squeaky-clean stroll he’d taken around Perfectville, and anyway, he could hear the sound of a stream in the distance. Good enough for him.
The paper bag he’d been given on the bus was starting to feel irritatingly heavy to him, so it didn’t take long to pick a bench and sit down to eat. Depth Charge opened it up. Ah-hah. There it was. His old adversary. The orange fruit.
What was it Mori had done? Peeled the top part away? With the care of a ‘bot picking the wires on a ticking bomb, he began to strip the outer layer off of the fruit. So far so good. At this rate he might even be able to eat the slagging thing...
[What light through yonder window breaks? Tis the East, and Lugnut is the sun!]

Any of the local kids would be kept well away from the crazies, so he must be another prisoner and probably a meta too. But he was still a kid hanging around a run-down, empty park on his own when it seemed pretty common for people to just disappear around this place.
Wandering over to the base of the tree, Jason barely paused long enough to pick a branch that should support his weight before he jumped up to grab a hold of it. Flipping himself up to balance precariously on the slippery perch, he launched himself up at a higher branch with barely a glance. Grabbing hold of it, Jason swung himself upwards in an arc, to catch an even higher branch with his legs so he hung upside down near the kid. "Any reason you're hanging around here on your own?" he asked casually, like he wasn't dangling from a tree branch. Nightwing wasn't the only one who could hold conversations in the most awkward of positions after all.

"I'm dressed for it." He replied dryly. He'd flipped the hood off his head again, but the general design of his sweater (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=7310403) pretty much gave it away. A panda in a tree.
Well he thought it was funny. Not one to be out-done, he pulled pulled himself up after the man. He wasn't nearly as skilled, but he had no trouble making smaller jumps to reach the branches or pulling his body up above them. He hooked his legs over a branch roughly opposite the man and stuffed his hands in the front pocket of his sweater to keep it from falling off.
"That was pretty cool. Like a squirrel or a monkey." Which, in Nataku's book, were pretty cool things. "So how come you're here alone too?"
no subject
"A squirrel?" Again with the cutesy stuff? Jason was almost offended by the comparison. "You keep sayin' stuff like that and I'm gonna push you out of the damn tree," he said jokingly. Him like a small, furry, harmless rodent? Not likely. But climbing trees wasn't ever going to be impressive no matter how acrobatic, so he couldn't complain that much. He missed the rooftops of Gotham where you could cross the city without ever touching the streets below. It was a lot better for putting on a show but for now the opportunity to stretch out was welcome enough. Even if it got him called a squirrel.
"I was looking around, trying to get away from all the fucking nurses. Getting a bit sick of being watched everywhere I go," he replied offhandedly. It was true, even if it wasn't the main reason he'd come to the run down park.

The taishi grinned. He approved of the squirrel comparison. "Yeah, like you could," He shot back. Though it was mostly teasing there was a vein of real arrogance in his voice. Almost as an afterthought he added, "I didn't say you looked like one or anything."
As for the nurses, he had to wholeheartedly agree. "Me too. I guess it makes sense, but it still sucks."
Abstractly, he realized he kind of liked talking upside down. He'd probably be dizzy soon but he'd have to teach Goku sometime. "So what's your name?"

"You don't have any friends you'd rather be avoiding them with?" Jason couldn't keep an eye on every kid locked up in here but if he knew the kid had someone watching his back and was just on his own 'cause he wanted some space then he'd feel a lot better about leaving. Which he had to do soon if he wanted to even attempt to get something from this trip.
Having had enough of the blood running to his head, Jason flipped himself up to perch on the branch, replying casually "I'm Will Elliot. And you?"

It probably wasn't a good idea to egg on a virtual stranger, but this guy had started with all of the threatening first after Nataku had paid him what he considered a compliment. And besides, he wasn't the only one who didn't know what he was dealing with. He hauled himself upright reluctantly. Even he wasn't arrogant enough to think he should start anything hanging upside down from a high tree branch. He kicked his feet back and forth below him, watching Jason with a mix of curiosity and apprehension. He didn't really want to get into a fight right now. The thought of having more time swept away by drugs wasn't exactly appealing.
He shook his head. "My friends are pretty busy. I'm Nataku. Were you going to hang around up here for the rest of the day?"
no subject
He shook his head at the question. "Nah, I got stuff to take care of. I can't spend the whole day babysitting cocky little pandas in trees." And he really should get moving if he was going to. It was getting late and he didn't know how early these sorts of towns shut down.
Grinning at Nataku, he let himself drop backwards, grabbing a lower branch and swinging around it before releasing it to tumble to the ground, landing lightly in a crouch. Rising, Jason looked back up at the kid and cocked his head expectantly. It wasn't that much of an acrobatic display but he thought it was still pretty impressive.

He had a very brief panicked moment when Will dropped backwards, but watching him he couldn't help but think showoff.
"You're one to talk about being cocky." Nataku shot lightly, but he was clapping and smiling anyway because it was a pretty stylish move. He didn't really believe in modesty. As long as it wasn't some old windbag overestimating himself, he didn't see why showing off cool tricks should be a bad thing.
His dismount was more utilitarian than anything. He wasn't trying to show off. It ended up looking more like a very controlled fall, and he landed in a crouch on the ground beside Will. Once he straightened up, he hesitated, biting the inside of his lip. He wanted to come along but he didn't want to end up being anyone's burden.
He looked up at Will. "Um, it was nice meeting you anyway."

Kid wasn't bad either - he didn't have the acrobatics training Jason did but he must have some sort of training from the confident way he dropped down out of the tree, landing easily on his feet.
Nataku seemed uncertain now, which sure didn't fit with how confident he'd been just a moment ago, acting like he didn't think Jason could even lay a finger on him..... It had to be kind of boring hanging around on his own if his friends all had other stuff to do.
Wandering around with a young kid wouldn't hinder any kind of shoplifting and it had been a while since Jason had company that didn't piss him off or make him want to get under their skin. It also didn't feel right ditching a kid, even if they were a meta and the daylight hours around here tended to be safe.
"You planning on hanging around here alone or you wanna come? I'm going to try grabbing some stuff from the shops here so don't bother if that bugs you." He didn't expect anyone to care about stealing from the people here - they were either stupid or in on whatever went on back at the fake institute so stealing from them wasn't wrong. But he really didn't want to get nabbed by the staff if Nataku didn't agree.
no subject
...Wait, Will wanted him to come along? "Yeah, I want to."
At first he was going to ask Will where he'd gotten money, but it sounded more like he planned to steal things in the shops. Stealing had never really been necessary for him, though it had been a way of life for his father. Li Touten liked taking or using things that didn't belong to him, and for that reason he thought he should be against the act as a whole.
But Will didn't seem like the kind of guy to do that. It was just things and rather than simple greed it was probably something he needed to survive this place. It would be if he was smart, anyway, and he didn't strike Nataku as stupid.
The taishi nodded slowly, then shrugged. "It doesn't bug me." As for the possible consequences he added, "The day's almost over anyway. Maybe I can help."
no subject
But Nataku was willing to help out with whatever Jason tried and if he didn't do something today besides the meeting with Two-Face he was going to be irritated. "Maybe you can," he replied. Not like he had anything to lose and it'd be fun showing the kid the ropes.
"Come on," Jason started for the exit to the park, expecting Nataku to follow.
