Day 42, Afternoon: Morris Park

With the early morning’s embarrassment out of the way, Depth Charge had decided to devote a chunk of the day to familiarising himself with Doyleton: its ins and outs, the stores, the street names. Anything that could prove useful if he ever managed to escape- that, and having something to keep his mind busy after the incident in the used car place. Not only had he looked stupid, he’d looked careless and stupid, and neither of those were looks he really wanted to go for.

Finally he drew his circuit of the town to a close in a run-down park just off of Kelley Street, and boy did it ever look like slag. There was something oddly refreshing about it after the squeaky-clean stroll he’d taken around Perfectville, and anyway, he could hear the sound of a stream in the distance. Good enough for him.

The paper bag he’d been given on the bus was starting to feel irritatingly heavy to him, so it didn’t take long to pick a bench and sit down to eat. Depth Charge opened it up. Ah-hah. There it was. His old adversary. The orange fruit.

What was it Mori had done? Peeled the top part away? With the care of a ‘bot picking the wires on a ticking bomb, he began to strip the outer layer off of the fruit. So far so good. At this rate he might even be able to eat the slagging thing...

Nataku smiled back. He liked Will, actually. He was glad they weren't going to start a fight right here. He was even disappointed that the man was leaving already. They hadn't really gotten the chance to talk much, and time alone with his thoughts became less and less appealing by the second now that he had something more interesting to do.

He had a very brief panicked moment when Will dropped backwards, but watching him he couldn't help but think showoff.

"You're one to talk about being cocky." Nataku shot lightly, but he was clapping and smiling anyway because it was a pretty stylish move. He didn't really believe in modesty. As long as it wasn't some old windbag overestimating himself, he didn't see why showing off cool tricks should be a bad thing.

His dismount was more utilitarian than anything. He wasn't trying to show off. It ended up looking more like a very controlled fall, and he landed in a crouch on the ground beside Will. Once he straightened up, he hesitated, biting the inside of his lip. He wanted to come along but he didn't want to end up being anyone's burden.

He looked up at Will. "Um, it was nice meeting you anyway."

"Hey, if you've got the moves," Jason replied smugly, grinning approvingly at Nataku's appreciation.

Kid wasn't bad either - he didn't have the acrobatics training Jason did but he must have some sort of training from the confident way he dropped down out of the tree, landing easily on his feet.

Nataku seemed uncertain now, which sure didn't fit with how confident he'd been just a moment ago, acting like he didn't think Jason could even lay a finger on him..... It had to be kind of boring hanging around on his own if his friends all had other stuff to do.

Wandering around with a young kid wouldn't hinder any kind of shoplifting and it had been a while since Jason had company that didn't piss him off or make him want to get under their skin. It also didn't feel right ditching a kid, even if they were a meta and the daylight hours around here tended to be safe.

"You planning on hanging around here alone or you wanna come? I'm going to try grabbing some stuff from the shops here so don't bother if that bugs you." He didn't expect anyone to care about stealing from the people here - they were either stupid or in on whatever went on back at the fake institute so stealing from them wasn't wrong. But he really didn't want to get nabbed by the staff if Nataku didn't agree.

"Exactly." Nataku agreed, laughing. If you had the moves, huh? How many moves did Will have? Was he a performer back home?

...Wait, Will wanted him to come along? "Yeah, I want to."

At first he was going to ask Will where he'd gotten money, but it sounded more like he planned to steal things in the shops. Stealing had never really been necessary for him, though it had been a way of life for his father. Li Touten liked taking or using things that didn't belong to him, and for that reason he thought he should be against the act as a whole.

But Will didn't seem like the kind of guy to do that. It was just things and rather than simple greed it was probably something he needed to survive this place. It would be if he was smart, anyway, and he didn't strike Nataku as stupid.

The taishi nodded slowly, then shrugged. "It doesn't bug me." As for the possible consequences he added, "The day's almost over anyway. Maybe I can help."

Jason almost wanted to ditch his vague plans of raiding the shops in favour of showing off more or teaching Nataku some of the better tricks he knew. It had been a long time since he really relaxed around anyone and though he didn't know the kid - metahuman - well enough to trust, it was hard to suspect him of anything.

But Nataku was willing to help out with whatever Jason tried and if he didn't do something today besides the meeting with Two-Face he was going to be irritated. "Maybe you can," he replied. Not like he had anything to lose and it'd be fun showing the kid the ropes.

"Come on," Jason started for the exit to the park, expecting Nataku to follow.
