Day 22: Brunch

Cid usually liked sleeping in, especially in a place as messed up and uninviting as this, but this happened to be one situation where he really wished he hadn't.

Right there, on the bulletin board. The Head Doctor and he'd fucking missed it? Some part of him wished he'd been there to take his eye out and another part of him knew he wouldn't have been able to. No man that powerful who hid for so long went to dangerous places without some kind of entourage.

Brunch sounded like it'd be filling, at least, though he nearly stopped in his tracks when the bastard announced TEA. TEA. It'd been a damn long while since he'd had some fucking tea, though with all the stress this place had found fit to rain down on his fucking head, it hadn't really been the first priority on his mind. Kinda nice, even if Cid was sure this was just some game the mother fucker was playing to get them all stuck neck-deep in Stockholm Syndrome.

He scanned the mostly-empty room for any sign of a familiar face once he'd piled waffles and sausages and syrup on his plate, though the person he really wanted to talk to was that Reynolds guy. "Spaceship" was the last word he remembered clearly before waking up in his bed, and dammit if he wasn't going to keep it stuck like glue in his mind.

He found a table where he could watch people come into the cafeteria and grabbed for his mug. The steam rising from his drink and the bag of herbs in it was nearly enough to make him grin despite it all, and it was with marked leisure and a little relief that he drank his goddamn tea.

Tamaki's face fell. What was wrong with poor Adel-kun? Whatever it was, he now felt miserable that he'd come and bothered his friend. But he was going to make it up to him!

"Alright everyone!" he exclaimed, using his Host King Voice and standing to his full height. For all that much of how he presented himself were exaggerations, he was a commanding young man. It was one of the few things he could actually do. "Adel-kun wants to be left alone!"

He tossed his head, looking like the regal Lord he presented himself as. And then he moved to offer a hand to Adelhied, who wasn't looking very steady on his feet.

"Adel-kun, can I get you anything?"

The day had barely started and already Aya was feeling so cheated. Years had mellowed down his temperamental notably, like the red of his hair gone from vibrant crimson to rich wine, he rarely anymore felt so wired up he'd be acting like a half wild cat. This morning, seeing Yohji in the chapel and trying to figure out what the hell was happening seemed to be a mixture that pulled just the right strings within him to kick up a storm. The nurse had not bothered him more than if he needed another shot and he had lied that there was no pain. She had arched a brow in disbelief, Aya had stared, until she obviously decided it was not worth the trouble and left him alone.

When he arrived to the cafeteria he could see Yohji in one of the tables but sure didn't feel like talking with him right now. So he chose to pick up some food, mostly fruits and a rare waffle, and sat down to a nice peaceful corner of a table to sip from the cup of coffee he was nursing between his hands. Overgrown bangs of blood red hanging over his eyes, he set to eat in silence.

"I'm fine, Alphonse." Lust frowned, more worried about the boy than herself. He truly did look ill.

"Just sit, catch your breath. Here, have something to drink." She slid a glass of juice in front of him and reached up to brush his hair back from his forehead, as she had done so many times before when she had consoled him.

It may not an Alphonse with any memories of this place or here, but it was still Alphonse. And whether or not he remembered all they had been through, she remembered. She still had the flower he had given her once, tucked into the pages of her journal.

"Just take a few moments before you begin your questions. And I know you have them."

Kasady never wanted to use the words "vibrating" and "symbiote" together, but he was just about to. Because the alien practically was doing just that in their shared skull, and even though the serial killer adored the fact that their bonds was even possible, this sensation was a new one. It kept flicking little stares towards this girl, hatred seething into every part of their body. The alien just really wanted to kill that whelp, didn't it?

Kasady didn't even think he'd ever come to that decision to off someone so quickly. It was almost impressive. Except for that part where his skull felt like it was vibrating.

Look, he'd be more than happy to carry out that wish, even if it was because he hated Venom. Nothing personal to the girl, at least from his end--

But it is from my end. I want her torn apart!

Yeah, yeah, he sorta already got that. But he wasn't about to completely blow their cover and do it in broad daylight. That was something you did when you had a trump card, and they didn't have it right now.

Piling food onto his plate, they picked the first empty table they could find: close enough to keep an eye on that piece of jail bait and study her behavior, but not too close.

Roy shot up in his bed, fingers clenching against the sheets of his bed as he breathed hoarsely.

What...? It was day again? But he'd just - he'd just! Slowly, the alchemist allowed himself to calm down, letting his muscles loosen as he glanced at his lap, where his keyring was lying. He snatched it and shoved it into his pocket quickly, then stood from his bed and dusted himself off.

He had found a door, one that had actually opened. He knew where it was, and he even knew which key he'd used. Roy had to tell someone, and fast; it was too much trying to keep that sort of information to himself. It had been so long since they had made any progress...

Of course Hughes was the one he wanted to confide in; not to mention he had to check and see what had happened with Heiderich. Waiting impatiently for the nurse, he glanced around and finally noticed how his room had changed. Someone was going to be staying with him now? They must have run out of space. He wasn't too perturbed by the unexplainable change, since it had happened so many times before.

His nurse entered and he quickly moved toward her, eager to get to the cafeteria.

"My, my, Mr. Wilson. You really did sleep in this morning."

Roy blinked. Had he missed breakfast, then? He didn't care particularly much about that, he just need to get to Hughes, so he shrugged and the nurse escorted him without another word.

When they ended up in the cafeteria anyway, he was a little confused. He hadn't overslept at all! Well, he wasn't going to worry about it. He scanned the room for Hughes, and found him easily enough, but the news he had been so eager to share was forgotten when he realized who he was speaking to.

Envy. Not the same one who had been here before, most likely, but it was still the homunculus who had killed his friend. Roy balled his fists and seethed, but he had the foresight to arrange his bangs over his homunculus eye before approaching the two.

He drew up behind Hughes and placed a hand on the man's shoulder in support. He glared at the sin. "What are you doing?" he asked, tone sharp and cold.

As she thought. The nurse made a small hand gesture, hardly noticeable, but the orderly who she had told to watch from afar would see it and be heading over, since it didn't seem like Mr. Fortune was going to listen to reason.

"We didn't do anything to him, sir," she said with a frown. "He must have done that to himself." She bit her lip and shook her head in dismay. It really was upsetting, how the patients would hurt themselves that way. Some even attempted suicide at times.

"But if we allow you near him, he'll probably continue with that sort of behavior, and we're trying to make sure he gets better, not worse," she said firmly, placing her hands on her hips and leveling her gaze on him. "So please, go find somewhere else to sit," she repeated.

Gin caught only a flash of red from the corner of his eye before a tray of miscellaneous breakfast food came rushing for his head. He hadn't sensed any reiatsu, hadn't noted any particularly hostile auras; however, that didn't change the fact that a large plastic tray was on its way toward his face. It was almost laughably slow and yet, as he moved to dodge it, the corner still bounced off his shoulder, sending the food sloshing all over the table and floor.

It stung. And most dreams didn't sting. He had very little time to absorb that precious bit of information as a very familiar face raced toward him. Gin urged his feet to move, to dodge, to somehow counter, but his movements were as sluggish as Abarai's. Gin's pale blue eyes opened in surprise as the small pointed object Abarai carried went straight for his neck. His body tried to keep up, but he felt something graze his neck, and the not at all familiar feeling of pain crept through his body. Gin's fingers wrapped around Renji's arm in an attempt to stop a second strike.

Gin winced slightly as the smile returned to his lips, "Ara? Abarai-kun. I wasn' expecting a welcome party."

They were going to keep Zabuza-san from approaching him, so logically if he were to attempt to go to his Master he would be stopped as well. This was not a Good Thing.

Haku caught sight of one of the larger uniformed men heading towards the woman and Zabuza-san and his mouth turned down in a slight frown.

Rushing in now would serve neither of them any good. Haku reached for a napkin to clean up the water he'd spilled, keeping a careful eye on what was going on.

Half of the Head Doctor's speech was useless to the priest. Sanzo didn't know enough about the situation or the area directly outside Landels to be able to interpret all that shit on 'wars" and "loved ones" being involved with "genetic and enviromental factors".

What was going on around the world he knew wasn't so much an organized war as just youkai gone insane and attacking humans, and the retaliation here and there: it was just small bursts of violence, rather than something country-wide. Sometimes bandits took advantage of the confusion, but there wasn't any specific countries or large groups going at it. Yet.

Sanzo wasn't about to dismiss the possibility of a war though. He just hoped that people could just calm the fuck down long enough for him to complete his mission. The priest didn't think much of youkai, but there was the occassional innocent youkai that got caught up in the fear that engulfed the human side of all this. Dislike of them or not, Sanzo didn't see any need to go to such measures. Some people were making use of the Minus Wave and the rumors and finally acting on their prejudices. They weren't any better.

That shit about loved ones? Sanzo didn't have anyone that he loved (or that he felt returned the favor, for that part), so he could only assume the fucker was talking to everyone else. The only useful thing to come out of that shift was putting a face to that intercom's voice, and getting confirmation that he hadn't been seeing things days ago when he'd shot at the two orderlies.

Sanzo wasn't even going to go near the subject of "genetic and enviromental factors" being linked with the topic of "loved ones".

And then there was Goku. If he wanted to talk with Kenren - so much that he was willing to risk Sanzo's wrath by ignoring a good berating - then Sanzo would just have to let him and hope the kid got it out of his system. And be ready to let the monkey have it when he came back.

The priest was still going to keep an eye out for him.

So much for that. Renji didn't let it stop him. He had a short amount of time, and he was going to fucking kill Gin if it was the last thing he did.

He let Gin grab him. Fine. They could play it like that. He lunged forward and slammed his forehead directly into Gin's nose, grabbing him by the shirt with his free hand and yanking him forward as he did.

"Welcome to Landel's."

He shoved Gin back while he was still off balance and kicked him in the knee to help him find the floor. With gravity on his side, he dove at the man, intending to put his fist through Gin's face.

To himself?! Never. Haku would never do that to himself unless... unless... Zabuza shoved those thoughts aside and glared at the woman. Haku wouldn't do anything that would make him less useful to Zabuza. If there was going to be punishment for 'failing' him then Haku would give all or nothing, as always, and he had already died for his Master once.

Zabuza didn't have a weapon and he couldn't concentrate on chakra, so he did the next best thing. He balled up a fist and socked the woman in her face. No way he was going to let some puny female keep him from seeing if Haku was alright.

Envy nodded a few times as he listened to Hughes, raising an eyebrow as if he was having difficulty believing all this. He blinked a little at whatever Hughes' implication was about being human, passed it off, and frowned in proper abhorrance of the prospect of human experimentaton.

He began to raise his steaming tea cup to his lips just as his tablemate said that final thing and the tea's journey was aborted as he took his turn to play the role of utter confusion.

"Wh-..." He set the mug down, "Do you mean... I tried to kill you?"

He noticed the third party approaching them and looked taken aback by his hostility.

"... talking. God, is everyone here this hostile?"

The family pride came in, and he blushed. Should I tell him I'm not actually allowed to use my full power? No, that would be scary.

"I'm going to be showing the twins a few things later, I think. I'm a little bit out of practice, but." Honey hoped they had a dummy or something he could use as a practice tool. He didn't want to risk hurting anyone in the middle of a sparring match, and he didn't know yet if there were any other martial artists around who could block successfully without being hurt.

The mention of the Host Club again brightened Honey up. "Yeah! You really should. Bring your friends, too! We'll all be around later. At least...most of us. No one's seen Haru-chan in a while, and I don't think Takashi and Kyou-chan are even here. But the rest of us will be! And I think Tama-chan is trying to train new Hosts."

Honey wasn't sure if he should extend the invitation quite so far, but he figured he'd let the President handle it if Axel decided he wanted to try it.

Hughes glanced up when Roy came over, grateful for the other man's presence and small show of support. He was watching the sin closely, critically, the same way he'd watch a suspect in interrogation.

"It's fine, Roy," he said, but there was a strange note to his voice. "And I think we're actually playing a little game here, but hey, who knows?" He gave Envy a very wry, none-too-friendly smile.

"And no, I mean you killed me. And I'm pretty damn sure you remember. So let's drop the act and go about this like normal people, alright? If you can do anything like a normal person."

Ginji looked up from his diminished pile of food. He swallowed once he realized it was a young and cute girl. Poor girl, he thought. Trapped in a place like this and she's not even his age. He had noticed kids in this place before, Sora was one, but it still was sad to actually see one. Not that she was really a kid just too young to have to be face with horror. He knew what that was like, and he didn't want to see other people go through what he went through.

He gave her a friendly smile and nodded. "Of course!" he said after he was careful that all the food was gone from his mouth. "Hi, how are you? I'm Amano Ginji, but you can call me Ginji. I won't mind." He grinned. He didn't care if people used friendly terms with him. "Did you just wake up here?" he asked, frowning. He felt like she had come to him with questions and he was willing to answer every single one of them that he could.

Needless to say, Hisoka wasn't in a good mood when he finally entered the cafeteria and it wasn't because of the Head Doctor either. The want, no need, of the spilt blood of that twisted parody of a doctor, that Muraki, burned in his veins and the lack of such left a bitter metallic taste on his tongue.

He had been so close. Had he just pushed that nurse away-- the one currently piling his plate with food that left him feeling faintly nauseous-- had he just done as his mind told him and just swung at the sorry bastard then maybe... The boy's lips tugged downward, rage still bubbling inside ferociously.

Yet despite the bloodlust, the shinigami understood perfectly well how far he would have gotten had he made any move to attack. He had no weapon and he could remember the last time he had attempted to attack the doctor as such. The man had him pinned down like a butterfly in a display case as if he were nothing and had Tsuzuki not come looking for him... Well...

Hisoka sighed, his thoughts stamping out the majority of his bloodlust. The nurse jostled him to an empty table, clearly not in the mood for forcing him to sit with others, and forced him to sit before disappearing. Frowning slightly at his food, the boy stabbed the waste once with his fork then quickly began to formulate plans.

The talk with Simon and Jack in the Sun Room had actually been therapeutic. Lately, all he had been thinking about was this place, finding everyone, and getting out; thinking back on his own world, his own life, and even getting in his share of complaints about the Alliance left him feeling refreshed.

As usual, the first thing Mal did upon entering the room was search out his crew members. River never had any problem talking to people that interested her, so she was already chatting away, and Inara...

Well, she didn't have much trouble making friends, either, did she? A string of jokes and insults ran through the man's head as he watched her conversation with another man he'd never spoken to before.

Two could play that game. Immediately, the captain searched for a female who was on her own, so he could have his own little happy conversation with her. It was juvenile and he knew it, but that didn't matter much to him. The girl with the crutches seemed like a good enough choice - for one thing, he wanted to know how she had managed to get so hurt.

He noticed Cid on his way over to get some food, but he was crowded by three other people. He'd talk to the man later. Once he'd filled his plate to his satisfaction, Mal sat down next to the woman - girl, even, she looked pretty young - and smiled, though it didn't come off as particularly friendly.

It had been a long while since Gin had resorted to street brawling instead of his Zanpakutou. And understandably, it took a little jumpstart for his old reflexes to kick in. It was probably somewhere between the floor and Abarai going in to tackle him. There was a bit of blood running from his nose, but Gin paid it no mind. Zanpakutou or not, a fight was still a fight, and he didn't intend to lose, regardless of Abarai's surprisingly underhanded techniques.

He rolled to the side, narrowly missing the flying fist as he threw an elbow at the vice-captain's face. It connected, giving Gin the precious moments he needed to get back to his feet and wipe the blood from his nose.

"How kind," he returned, the smile never leaving his face. "I don't s'pose y'mind if I give ya some thanks of my own then?" Though the words were spoken sweetly, there was no mistaking the ill-intent behind them.

There was no way she could have avoided that sort of thing. The punch hit her square in the face, and she fell back. Luckily, the orderly had been getting close and was able to run forward and catch her before she hit the floor.

The nurse had her hand up to her face, cupping the blood that was now flowing freely from her nose. The orderly told her to get herself to the medical wing, and she nodded quietly, sending a disapproving, almost disappointed glance at Mr. Fortune as she left.

The orderly, who looked more than capable of blocking the unruly patient's punch and sending one back his way, gave Zabuza a warning look. "If you try that again, there will be punishment," he grunted.

It was just like what Dante had tried. The innocent, amnesia act. Well, Roy wasn't going to fall for that. This homunculus, even if he looked no older than a teenager and was good at pretending he was someone he wasn't, was not to be trusted.

The fact that Hughes had even been indulging him was upsetting. His grip on the man's shoulder tightened. He was trying to hold back.

"You killed him," he repeated. "You killed him. So just get the hell away from us." He hadn't meant for it to come out that way - the use of 'us' was a little awkward and could be taken the wrong (or right?) way, but he was too angry to think about those things at the moment.

He was holding back now, but Roy wasn't sure if he'd be able to manage that much if he came across Envy during nightshift.

The elbow set the blood flowing from Renji's nose again; now he had one to match Gin. He'd forgotten how slippery the bastard was. But since Renji was still on the floor, and Gin had gotten to his feet...

Renji lunged forward, slamming his shoulder into Gin's knees to knock him to the floor again. He wasn't going to give up the advantage this time. He planted one knee firmly on Gin's chest, putting his full weight on it, and punched him in the face.

"You fucking traitor!" he snarled. "I'm going to fucking kill you!"

He aimed his second punch at Gin's throat.

This was too much. His Master's anger was going to cause serious repercussions for them both if he wasn't stopped before things got too out of hand.

Haku finished cleaning up the mess and straightened up once more, moving to go around the table to see if he could so something.

Naoe looked up and smiled. He was glad to see that it wasn't Takaya but he didn't know who it was. He smiled slightly after a quick glance around to see if Takaya was in the cafeteria yet. He didn't see that, though he could see other patients and nurses. Then he focused back on the man who approached him, choosing to ignore what was going on around them.

"Hello," he said, gesturing to a chair beside him. "You are welcome to sit if you like," he said softly.

He didn't mind company and if anything they may be able to learn something from each other.

The conversation Sora had with those other boys hadn't been too bad. Even if he had felt like the twins had been secretly snickering about him somehow (didn't twins have a weird connection like that?), Tamaki and Honey had both been very nice. He'd known beforehand that Tamaki was a good person, though, so that hadn't been a surprise.

He'd then gotten distracted by the bulletin board and his hand was aching a little from all the writing when he entered the cafeteria. The massive amounts of food was enough to take his mind off of that, however, and Sora made sure to get a little bit of everything he liked. He ended up feeling somewhat weighed down under his tray of food by the time he was done.

To be honest, he was a bit apprehensive about this meeting that had been set up. He just wanted everything to go smoothly, for Kairi's sake. He still wasn't sure what his opinion was about the Organization XIII members, but maybe this meeting would help him with that.

Xigbar seemed to be the only one who was in the cafeteria so far, though he was talking to another man. At first, the Keyblade Master wasn't sure if he should interrupt, but they had planned this, right? So he walked over, swaying a little as he tried to balance his tray without spilling everything. He set the tray down as soon as he reached the table and glanced up at Xigbar curiously.

"We're still going to do this, right?"

Zabuza looked at the orderly. He grinned, exposing his sharpened teeth. It wasn't a joyful or happy expression. He felt excited by the idea of a challenge. This man even looked like he could hold his own. Much more satisfying than a woman.

He glanced at Haku as the boy moved and made a slightly amused sound.

"Oh...?" he asked the orderly, still grinning. "And what kind of punishment would you give me?" he sneered as he spoke.
