Night 41: Main Hallway, 1-West

[from here]

The main hallway was empty, too. The quiet was broken only by squeak of S.T's shoes on the tile floor and tiny creaks of metal as the toolbox swung as he walked.

This was the part in the horror movie where the cheerleader took a knife to the throat. Good thing he'd left his pom-poms at home. As long as he was the idiot friend or the brains (hell, both) he should make it at least to the third act.

He hurried along, hugging close to the left-hand wall.

She came to a halt, and after a beat, turned back enough to look. The head of her flashlight dipped so that it illuminated the floor ahead of her feet. “If you’re not dangerous,” was her rejoinder to their circular conversation.

But enough of that.

He was right, even if he didn’t know it. Yomi would argue their night time friends were a greater concern. And the influence behind spectres attacking her was a sight more interesting than the motivations behind a person in the happy-face get-up doing the same. This one didn’t even register too strangely on her radar, in the face of the unique collection Dr. Landel had put together. His eyes were quite unnatural, but she bet he’d bleed the same as any human.

“I’m Yomi,” she answered with ease. There was her name, and as for Yomi’s reasons for being on a stroll: “I haven’t seen much of this place at night. I was thinking of finding out more about my other self.”

Dangerous? The same could clearly go for Yomi here. They were, after all, perfect strangers to one another.

"I assume you mean the self the nurses refer to." Scar had been curious about their supposed real lives, and though he had heard of 'files', his inability to read maps made it rather difficult to find their location. But this was a nice opportunity to look into this matter, especially if someone would lead the way.

"An interesting subject, indeed. From what I've heard those lives seem to match the lives we know quite well, though I am uncertain of it's extend. Would you care for company on this little trip?"

And for the sake of being proper; "I am called Scar."

“That’s right, that one,” Yomi said, a smile curling the corners of her mouth.

A alternate life. A sick girl with a problem telling fact from fiction that all of the staff pitied her for. Fujiwara… Yoshiko. If what this Scar had heard was right, and her life as Yomi overlapped with her false identity as Yoshiko, then would it include the same sordid details? Betrayal? Hate? Murder? Revenge? Corpses piled high, cowardly fiancés?

Whiny, ignorant little girls? With her blood on them, her burden on them.

Kagura.

The subdued smile died on her face for a moment, but then crept back, fueled by the sesshouseki’s encouraging pulse. She was in the middle of a conversation with a new friend. How sweet, offering to come along. “Sure, why not? That would work out well; neither of us would be alone.” And Yomi could find some benefit in having a living, breathing person follow along with her, she was sure. The drawbacks were few. “It’s nice to meet you.”

"A pleasure to make your acquaintance as well, Yomi." Scar had noticed Yomi's smile fading for the slightest moment, but chose to ignore it for now. After all, such things weren't any of his concern.

He hadn't moved since speaking up, so the feline finally caught up with the female patient. "Indeed," Scar said. Two birds with one stone indeed. "Well, shall we be on our way?"

This time, the smile stayed where it was supposed to. Once the man had settled himself at her side, Yomi turned back and lifted her flashlight again.

That hadn’t taken too much time at all.
