Day 41: Sun Room

Haseo's steps were heavy with the weight of righteous anger as he was escorted into the Sun Room, his posture so sullen and reluctant you could almost hear the nostalgic cry of an electric guitar. He was seething, and though perhaps it was a bit harder to be intimidating while wearing the uniform of an insane asylum and flanked by a bored-looking orderly, it was not for lack of trying.

Unfortunately, his nurse seemed unaffected by the act, and even with the cloud of failing to keep "Kai" away from "Peyton" hanging over her, remained determinedly cheerful. She merely said something about receiving a lecture later on, ignored his retorts, and assured him that it would be alright even though his internet stalker was in the same building. For the most part, Haseo tuned her babbling out after that, dismissing it as hopeless.

"...and usually this would be the time children would be taking showers, but you don't have to worry about that right now. Now then, le--"

"Wait. What?"

"Oh, all the children seventeen or under are separated right now while the adults go to the courtyard..."

"Hey, I'm not a kid you old--!"

"Oh of course you aren't dear, but you're not eighteen yet either, now are you?"

Haseo resisted the urge to do something rash, literally biting his tongue to keep quiet. But upon having the bulletin board pointed out to him, he shrugged off his anger for the most part and headed that way, fully intending to get more answers than he'd had time to receive during breakfast.

Well... at least Endrance is in another shower group, he thought, Thank god.

[Closed to Tsukasa, for now!]

Anise eased herself back a bit, and folded her arms over the top of the couch. "It's not as fun if you can't win anything," she protested with a pout, "and most of the people who gamble outside of the law are kinda shady. You're not even allowed to gamble at all in my city, since it's like, the religious capital." Even simple, legitimate businesses were strictly regulated. Making money in Daath was tough! Anise knew that better than anyone.

"Kinda shady, huh?" Tyki said, his thick glasses not able to cover the glint in his eyes. Well, he guessed he did fall under that category. Shop-lifting, pick-pocketing and stealing people's belongings by cheating at cards were probably considered shady.

"Religious capital, huh? Ain't surprising. Those religious people dun' really approve of stuff like that." The Noah said. "Then again, they dun' approve of anythin'."

Which was exactly why he didn't like religion. All the fun things were forbidden by God. People believing in that guy only ended up restricting themselves just because they wanted to go to heaven. Tyki pitied those people, binded by the chains of God.

"Seriously," Anise muttered in agreement. "It's like those decrepit old maestros want everyone to end up as boring as they are." In a way, it was nice being so far from home. She could say things like that without worrying about them coming back to her later.

"A girl can't even make some honest money, but they let all the real crooks get away." Out of all the con artists that preyed on people like her parents, the only ones that seemed to get caught where the ones Anise chased down herself. And even that was hardly any, since most didn't leave a trail.

"Sounds the same as those priests they got over at my place." Tyki remarked. All those ramblings about God and stuff. Holding a normal conversation with them was nearly impossible, really. "Best part's that they are the biggest hypocrites." Usually...

"I bet they're wonderin' why people resort to dishonest stuff, eh?" he continued. Well, sometimes it was pretty easy to resort to such ways. Unless you ended up behind bars, but you were definitely doing something wrong in that case. It was only a matter of not getting caught!

"A lot of them, yeah." Anise might have held a grudge against all the Order officials, if it hadn't been for the few decent people up there, like Ion and Tritheim.

The stranger's next comment made Anise pause. For a moment, it almost seemed like he was describing her situation, even though it was impossible for him to know anything about it. Maybe it was more common than she thought for people to get stuck in ugly situations like hers, where the only way out was through doing things she didn't want to ever do... Maybe even the con artists that bothered her parents were victims of the messed up system, too... not that it would make Anise forgive them even if that were the case.

"Hehe. I guess it really should be easy to see," she agreed after a moment. Hopefully that kind of ugly cycle of crime and distrust could be fixed when the Order finally adopted Ion's reforms.

Tyki decidedly had less trouble with such things than Anise did. But then again, as someone that grew up on the streets it was a case of survival. It was only after he awakened as a Noah that he learned of another life. But then again, he was probably a guy whose morals were...pretty twisted.

"I guess some stuff ain't changin' no matter what world." he commented.

"It'll change," Anise quickly interjected. "At least, for us it should. The Order's about to go through reforms, so as long as those are done right, things will get better!" As long as they used Ion's ideas, the Order could move in the right direction. It would be best if Ion could be there to lead them, too...

She smiled, with hope but also with a tiny hint of sadness. "It's just too bad that it took this long for people to start doing anything about it." She said nothing for a moment, lost in thought, but then suddenly giggled. "It's pretty weird to be talking about something like this with a total stranger though, isn't it? Hehe. I'm Anise, by the way!"

Reforms, huh? Tyki didn't know much about the reforms they did over the Vatican, but he honestly doubted they would actually be done 'right'. The people in charge were simply way too biased for such things.

But he didn't feel like discussing this with a little girl during mornings. "Least you dun' have to worry I blab it to the wrong fellas." he said. "Name's Tyki Mikk. Nice to meet'cha."

The girl giggled again, this time in a decidedly nervous manner. "Ahaha, yeah! Good thing." She was usually really careful about who she complained about the Order to. It was easy for anything she said to make its way back to the Grand Maestro, and things always got ugly when he got mad. She didn't have to worry about him anymore, though. It was nice to finally have some freedom as far as that went.

"Nice to meet you, too!" Tyki? For a guy who looked like a bit of a loser, it was a pretty cute name. Although... even if his appearance was kind of sloppy, the guy seemed really perceptive. He sounded like he had a better idea of how the world worked than most people, anyway. Best not to write him off as "just" a loser.

The intercom buzzed to life with the noontime announcements then, and Anise eased herself away from the couch, standing up straight. "Oh, it's time for lunch. I'll talk to you some other time, Tyki, okay? Bye-bye!"
