Day 41: Breakfast

Endrance turned his head to look at the intercom, giving it a look that would wither an entire rose garden in an instant. He would never get used to ending up in his room again from somewhere else in the Institute.

He brushed his bangs out of his eyes, not sitting up just yet. He could tell already that his torso had been heavily bandaged, even more so than it had been the night before. The cuts on his arms were covered with fresh bandages, and the one on his cheek seemed to no longer be there at all.

Endrance had been expecting to wake up in a lot of pain, but even that seemed numbed. "They must have given me something," he murmured quietly, as he slowly sat up.

At that moment, his nurse came to get him, pushing a wheelchair along with her. "Peyton, dear, good morning. I've come to take you to breakfast, so..." He shook his head. "I'm fine. There's no need for that...I can walk perfectly well."

She sighed. Well, if he insisted, she wasn't going to stop him. She motioned for an orderly to take the chair away, and walked him to the cafeteria. Once they had gotten there, she pointed him toward a seat, then set a full tray of pancakes covered with syrup, a bowl of fruit, and a glass of orange juice in front of him. "Now eat all of that, Peyton, or else you won't be strong enough to keep walking like that."

He glared at her back as she walked away, then stopped suddenly. There was that faint pulse he'd felt the night before...it was exactly the same.

And so he completely ignored his food in favor of staring at the cafeteria doors, looking at every patient that came in.

"The dogs? You have to be careful of those," he said. "They run in packs too."

He smiled happily though. "Wow, the jaw? That's really good. I wasn't able to do anything like that, even though the silly thing was less than six inches from my face." He shook hishead. If he'd had his yo-yo's and Roger was up and running, he'd have taken care of them in a heartbeat.

It was all rather depressing. "But I'm just no good with hand-to-hand combat."

"Yeah, I noticed. My group was attacked by three of them," Lockdown explained. "I killed one with a knife." The bounty hunter grinned, quite pleased with that accomplishment.

Bridget clapped his hands lightly, slightly unhappy by the still numb feeling in his left one.

"Wow! That's pretty neat Mr. Lockdown!" He was probably really good with hand-to-hand stuff. He briefly wondered if he could ask for training, but decided against it. The man was probably really busy and had all kinds of things to do.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I know," Lockdown chuckled, lifting his right hand to casually examine his hook out of habit, before realizing that it wasn't there and it was now a regular hand again. Instead, he chose to casually examine the hard, pink shells lining the tip of each finger.

"I think I may have even found a potential side-client for when my current client doesn't need me."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really? Be careful they don't cheat you though," Bridget said, remembering the note on the board. "Some people don't seem to want to pay, or they promise to pay, but what they really have isn't worth the job."

Bridget was very careful in picking out his jobs now. That whole mess with Ino and the trouble she caused him had certianly put him off his game. He'd been new at the time, but still! It was insulting.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockdown shrugged. "Trust me, kid, I've dealt with cheats before. They usually either didn't live to see tommorrow or wished I had killed them." The bounty hunter didn't take kindly to double-crossers. The only reason he hadn't hurt Prowl after he turned against Lockdown was because, Primus help him, he actually liked and respected the kid.

"Besides, he's already provided me with a 'down-payment', so I think he's legit enough."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 09:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've only been cheated once," Bridget admitted, embarrassed to say so, but it was the truth.

"She didn't last too long though," he added, happy about that, even if it hadn't been him that had had that chat with her. Sol was a good guy though, as was Ky. And Ky had even paid him the money owed! "Do you know anyone here from your own world," he asked, changing the subject.

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockdown allowed for the change in subject. One could only talk about cheats for so long.

The hunter nodded. "Yeah, there's two others here from my world, but I haven't met them here in person yet. There's also three others from alternate versions of my world. One of them is working for the two from my world, and whom I've never met in person. The other two I've met and talked to, and one of them is actually my current client." Provided he still made good with the gunpowder once it was ready.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Bridget thought about that for a moment. How interesting that so many people here knew each other, while so many were alone. Though he wouldn't wish for any of his friends to be trapped here with him, he had to admit it did get kind of lonely.

"Really? That's a lot!" He wondered if there was a pattern here. He didn't have the smarts to think of one though. He should ask Armand about it. "What's your world like?"

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I suppose it is," Lockdown replied. If you only counted the Tranformers from his world, that made only two. Counting all the Transformers in general, including the ones from the alternate worlds, that still made only five. Five wasn't that big a number to Lockdown.

He finished off his eggs before answering Bridget's question. "It's more advanced and practical than this one," He chuckled. "Seriously though, my world is all-robotic, and its inhabitants are sentient mechanical lifeforms called Transformers. If you're wondering why we're called that, it's because we turn into vehicles."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
That certainly caught Bridget's attention. "You're all robotic?" He nearly bounced in his seat from excitement. "You're all totally autonomous too? Oh my gosh! That's amazing! I haven't really had a chance to speak with many other former robots here. Well, except for Mr HK, but he was a little surly when I last talked to him..." Bridget shook off his thoughts on the 'droid'.

"You can change shape too? That's incredible! We have similar things in my world, but they aren't independent. The different governments are really cracking down on any kind of intelligence for robots, after the Gear Wars. My partner though has a form of artificial intelligence! He-" Bridget clammed up suddenly, realizing he was babbling. How embarrassing!

"Sorry. Didn't mean to just go on like that."

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Lockdown just sat there calmly as Bridget rambled on, starting on his pancakes. He was mostly just half-listening to everything the human said. The bounty hunter did catch it when Bridget mentioned that he'd met HK-47. That roommate of his seemed to be everywhere.

When Bridget stopped an appologized, Lockdown shrugged, but said nothing. After taking another bite of pancake, he said, "Yeah, we all change into vehicles. Although there was this one who could change into a spider and one of the ones here could apparently turn into a fish. Disguisting."

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"A fish? That's ... interesting." Beidget went back to his own food, taking the cue from Lockdown and hoping he didn't start rambling again.

"Becoming something else though, that's really neat! And very useful too. Roger can only change size." And his attachements, but that was different. He wondered if he could upgrade him...

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Lockdown snorted. He had to admit that the organic alt. modes were interesting, but that didn't make them any less disgusting. "I myself am a muscle car," He thought about showing Bridget the rough sketch of his car mode someone had posted on the bulletin this morning, but didn't think it was important. If the kid asked, then he'd show it.

Another bite of pancake was halfway to his mouth when a question struck him. "Who's this 'Roger'?" Lockdown doubted he would care when Bridget explained, but he felt the need to ask anyway.

[identity profile] roger-hug.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 07:16 am (UTC)(link)
Bridget was always happy to talk about Roger.

"Roger's my partner," he began. "And the real brains of our work. He keeps track of the bounty lists, and makes sure I don't get too ...enthusiastic during the chase. He's a robot, total AI, and is also my best friend. He's here, but he's non-operational. He's just a toy here. Totally inert."

[identity profile] ruthless-hunter.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
"I see," While at first 'Roger' sounded intriguing, when Bridget mentioned that he was nothing but a toy now, Lockdown lost interest. If Roger had not retained his so-called sentience while here, then it sounded as if he was simply a well-programmed drone to begin with. Then again, Lockdown figured that humans didn't have the advanced technology to produce machines with true sentience, like himself.

Thinking of partners brought Lockdown to another chain of thought. One that made him sigh nostalgically. "I had a partner once, for a little while."
