Day 41: Breakfast

Endrance turned his head to look at the intercom, giving it a look that would wither an entire rose garden in an instant. He would never get used to ending up in his room again from somewhere else in the Institute.

He brushed his bangs out of his eyes, not sitting up just yet. He could tell already that his torso had been heavily bandaged, even more so than it had been the night before. The cuts on his arms were covered with fresh bandages, and the one on his cheek seemed to no longer be there at all.

Endrance had been expecting to wake up in a lot of pain, but even that seemed numbed. "They must have given me something," he murmured quietly, as he slowly sat up.

At that moment, his nurse came to get him, pushing a wheelchair along with her. "Peyton, dear, good morning. I've come to take you to breakfast, so..." He shook his head. "I'm fine. There's no need for that...I can walk perfectly well."

She sighed. Well, if he insisted, she wasn't going to stop him. She motioned for an orderly to take the chair away, and walked him to the cafeteria. Once they had gotten there, she pointed him toward a seat, then set a full tray of pancakes covered with syrup, a bowl of fruit, and a glass of orange juice in front of him. "Now eat all of that, Peyton, or else you won't be strong enough to keep walking like that."

He glared at her back as she walked away, then stopped suddenly. There was that faint pulse he'd felt the night before...it was exactly the same.

And so he completely ignored his food in favor of staring at the cafeteria doors, looking at every patient that came in.

"Do the orderlies like to watch you?" she asked, still trying to keep that good feeling. She leaned back in her chair, trying to show how unconcerned sh was, and finally started stabbing fruit to eat. "I think you'd be fun to watch, if you ask me." Not fun for much else though. Well, she wasn't just looking for amusement.

"Tell me, have you ever been outside the walls?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Fuck if I know what get's them off," Takaya said, purposefully being crude to try and throw Juri off. "They might like it, they might be watching to make sure I don't beat anyone to death with my chair."

He shrugged as though it was a toss up.

Had he been outside the walls? "Yeah, I have." So had Kagetora. Who wouldn't stop laughing. "Why?"

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
One side of Juri's mouth twitched slightly in an almost smile at his words. She was annoyed at his constant use of crude language. It showed a lack of breeding, but the role she'd taken for this meal wasn't the rich snob. It wouldn't help to fuss about it.

"So you're a likely murdered too? Such charming people we have here." Juri frowned, to herself now. That wasn't what she wanted to say. "Don't mind that," she said hurriedly.

"I thought you looked like a survivor. Is there anything out there? A town, a road, somewhere we can contact the real authorities from?" Anything? a small, scared voice inside her asked before she stomped it silent again.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-12 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Now Kagetora pushed full to the front, Takaya glad to allow him control for the moment. He laughed.

"There are two towns, and two roads. One that we travel when we're allowed into town, the other hidden in the forest. The town, Doyleton, that we are permitted to go into, is nothing more than a sham. The second town is in ruins. If you live long enough to get to it, you'll find that there is nobody you can contact."

He leaned back slightly and considered the young woman. "Everyone outside of here believes the ruse of the hospital."

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"There has to be somewhere beyond that," Juri protested. Then she forced her attention back to her breakfast. Yes, she was interested, but it wouldn't do to seem too eager. "The area around here withing walking distance can't be the entire world," she finally added. "It wouldn't make sense otherwise. Can you think of a reason it'd make sense?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Kagetora chuckled softly and shook his head. "What ever is within walking distance is your whole world," he said. "At least until you or one of your friends can steal a vehicle. Then who knows? But our world is now limited to what we can reach between sundown and sun up."

Didn't matter how far that was either. It could be right outside their rooms, or as far as the towns. Didn't seem to matter.

"However far Landel can reach, that is our world."

"He isn't a god," Juri growled and stabbed her fork viciously into a chunk of honeydew. "I can't believe I'm stuck in this place. How can he be allowed to take us from our lives like this?" If she kept thinking like this, she'd probably jab that fork into a passing nurse.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Kagetora tried not to laugh. Push Takaya, and Kagetora would push right back.

"No he isn't a god. I've had plenty of experiance with those to tell the difference." He shrugged slightly. "He's much more dangerous. A mortal who thinks he is a god, and, sadly, he also currently has the power to keep us trapped here."

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not that I don't believe you, but I have to see for myself. I've tried to get to the walls more than once on my own, and I just don't get anywhere." Juri could swear she was going to have nightmares about the entrance hall for years. "Are you doing anything tonight?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't use the entrance hall," he said. "There's walls all around this place. Climb one."

Was he-What? Did she think he was just going to offer to take her along? Even if he WAS in control at the time, which he doubted... Takaya was getting too calm here there was no way in hell he'd take her along. But manners won out.

"Not that I know of. I would have to speak with my roommate."

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Juri's eyes went toward the back of the building to where she knew there was a large sports field. "I can climb anything," she said confidently. She polished off the last few pieces of her fruit and drank her juice. In the back of her mind, she wondered why he's suddenly stopped cursing every other word. Maybe she'd impressed him.

"Would you mind checking and... I guess leaving me a note on the bulletin board? I can't stand another night alone." If all she'd heard was true, and there was still doubt about that, she was surprised she was unhurt so far. Going it alone was supposed to be dangerous.

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-13 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Kagetora shrugged. "Sure." He would do no such thing.

But Takaya would.... Damn. That little pain would ruin his night. Fine, if he was damned and determined to be a pest, he was welcome to the woman. Sliding back, Takaya took a moment to blink, then go back to eating. Frey would probably say no anyway, or he would say yes, and decide that he liked her company better than his... Either way, it didn't matter to him.

Right?

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
"Thank you. I'll try to do something nice for you in return." She glanced warily around the room as if she expected someone was listening to them. "That is, if I can figure out what is nice around here."

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
Takaya looked up, slightly confused for a moment, then shrugged. "Nah. Don't worry about. Haven't fucking done anything yet."

He didn't want to be thanked or even offered payment for something that was acertain thing. Made him uncomfortable.

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
"I like to plan these things," Juri said. She frowned at Takaya. "Haven't you ever had the gratitude of a woman?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Takaya blinked, then a corner of his mouth twitched. "Are you fucking kidding me? All the girls I know showed their 'gratitude' by either smacking me in the head, calling me names, or just being an all around pai nin the ass."

Though technically Haruie wasn't a GIRL girl. Still, he insisted he WAS, so Takaya included him in that group.

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd only smack you in the head if I didn't like what you'd done," Juri said, her voice almost flat. "If I really didn't like you I'd get my fencing sword and stab you, too." Her tone didn't change, but then she smiled, tight and cold.

"I know they must have my things somewhere because I was giving my student council uniform back the second night. There are several things of my own I may want back, but seeing what's outside is more important. You wouldn't want me to get myself hurt, would you?"

[identity profile] forgot-my-life.livejournal.com 2009-05-14 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Takaya frowned and glanced over the room, catching sight of Frey and sighing slightly before looking back to Juri. "Whatever," he said. "I'll figure something out for you."

He didn't want to just leave this girl to the shit that hunted at night.

[identity profile] fencing-captain.livejournal.com 2009-05-15 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Juri rolled her eyes. "You're so helpful. Just let me know what you find out." She wished she still had some food to poke at, even though she wasn't hungry. "You're out of school aren't you?" she asked, which was about as polite she was prepared to be.
