Nightshift 38: Recreational Field
[from here]
She almost wished that she hadn't went last night. Because standing in this field again, in the same place she had been when she felt Hitsugaya die, was surreal. There was no one out here this time--no people, no kids, no mourning Shinigami, no virgin-eating birds. Just the chilly wind. She wrapped her arms around herself, shifting her flashlight and spear.
Senna moved close next to the buliding, hiding in the shadows and peering upwards. No birds so far. Maybe they'd be lucky. That guy better not show her up. Though she had to admit, wearing her Shinigami uniform was a lot warmer than the stupid outfit they gave everybody. And at least there was no more damn smiley face staring at her.
[Waiting for Reid down here.]

Argilla burst out onto the recreation field and practically ran out into the centre of it, right out in full view of anything which might want to attack. That was pretty much the point. She raised her hair and sniffed at the air hungrily. Something had been here recently, a dog, she thought, although she didn't see it now. She just had to hope that it would come back.

Its lighter fur gave it away quickly as it charged out of the shadows into the field toward Argilla - but just behind it came one of its packmates, an inky black wolflike creature who seemed no less fierce or hungry.

Before the dogs could get any closer, Argilla was running, charging towards them with the pickaxe pulled back ready for a swing containing all of her weight. She wasn't prey to wait around to be hunted.

One of them was unlucky enough to have made a leap directly at the woman just as Argilla swung her pickaxe, however, and the blade drove directly into the black dog's midsection just behind its foreleg. Its snarl turned into a yelp of sudden pain, and it flew sideways to land heavily on the grass.
Its packmate shied to one side, startled by the sudden attack, and scrambled to circle around behind the woman, away from the weapon it now realized she held.

The other dog lunged at the same time as the strike, judging its prey to be distracted enough then. Its wounded hind leg might have taken some of the force out of its leap, but its teeth were still sharp and jaws still powerful as it went for the woman's neck.

It leapt for her and she hissed in irritation, raising an arm to ward it away from her throat. And if the arm that was raised was longer than it should have been, and blood red, and too thin to get a good mouthful out of, then what of it?

It scrambled back slightly, half-crouched as it growled at the woman, saliva dribbling in long strings from its bared teeth. Hunger throbbed within at every heartbeat, pushing it forward despite the danger posed by this woman; all it could think of was the blood it could smell coursing under her skin.
And so after that moment's hesitation it charged again, more obviously favoring its hind leg as it made one last attack, this time driving toward a leg. It intended to knock her down, drag her to the ground where it could deal with her more easily.

In the moment that it took the dog to move, Argilla lashed out, the whip arm of Prithvi extending lightning fat to try and wrap around the dog's throat, the sharp spikes on her hand giving it a deadly grip so that she could draw it in or choke the life out of it.

It simply wasn't strong enough, though, to avoid its inevitable fate. There was a sharp crack as its neck twisted, its spine severing instantly and leaving its rotting corpse to sag into true death.

But once they were done she stood up, licking the blood from her lips and hands and then heading towards the door. She was supposed to meet Roland wasn't she? It was too cold out here anyway. Too dark to see the prey. They might have more luck inside.
