Nightshift 39: West Wing, North Hall 1-A

Miles slowed again as he entered the hallway, due to another sharp spike of pain in his head. This time, it was accompanied by a louder rumble, one that almost sounded like garbled words.

He swept the beam of his flashlight from side to side. "Now, see? Nothing - and no one - is there," he muttered, hoping that would silence the voice's insistent worry. It was starting to get both annoying and worrisome at the same time. What was making it react like this? He couldn't think of anything, and the intercom announcement hadn't indicated anything particularly worrisome, either.

He sighed and continued down the hallway, continuing to scan for anything in the shadows with each step.

Guy didn't have a huge preference about where they went once they made it to the basement, so he figured they would decide once they actually got down there - if they made it, that is. Just because they had been lucky last night didn't mean that their good fortune would continue. In fact, odds were that it wouldn't, if Guy considered how many attempts he'd made to reach the basement.

Then again, that could have been because of who he was going with. There was a chance that with Claude and Dias at his side, they were just more efficient.

When Dias directly asked him a question, Guy was somewhat surprised, but he didn't hesitate to answer. He glanced down at the sword and shrugged. "It isn't exactly what I'm used to, I'll admit. I generally use a longer blade, but I'm sure I can manage." He wasn't going to trip them up if he had anything to say about it.

Okita had said that he had been pushed up in the queue, so hopefully he wouldn't have to wait too much longer before he had a sword that was better suited to him.

Claude could understand why Dias would want to ask such a thing, but, for some reason, it still kind of irritated him that he went out and said it. It was almost like he was worried that Guy would slow them down or something. Thinking of that reminded him of how he'd been left on the sidelines during a good chunk of his first week at Landel's because, unlike Dias and Ashton, he hadn't been properly equipped.

"I'm sure you can manage, too," Claude suddenly spoke up. Not that he'd seen his friend in very many combat situations, but, if he remembered right, he'd been the one to deliver the final blow on at least one of those creatures they'd fought in the music room. And he'd only had a bat on him at the time, too!

He almost wanted to remark that just because Dias thought a particular weapon was sub par didn't automatically make it, or the person wielding it, a setback. But, thankfully, he managed to hold his tongue as he headed further down the hallway and tried to quicken his pace.
